View Full Version : You guys ever list a card really high... Then just have someone hit the BIN?

Had a card I had listed really high that I kinda wanted to keep but had it listed high so I could control when/if I sold it. Woke up this morning and someone hit the BIN on it last night and I'm kinda just like.. "well damn".... I mean I did great on it and sold it for way more than that card has been going for.... Just kinda sad to see it go. I'm not sure I'd have sold it had I known lol. Sometimes just sad to let a great card go.

Yeah, actually for cards I'm still somewhat attached to I'll usually do what I consider an unrealistic/high BIN. I figure if someone hits it, I can always circle back down the line and try and pick it up again if I feel the need.

Usually means listed too low, (from my experience)[emoji120]

Yeah, it happens. Rejoice! Lol.
Cant complain if your really high bin gets hit, shouldn’t have listed it if your not okay selling it.

agree, i typically flip and dont care much about keeping cards. i have a kobe up for very high BIN kinda just to see offers. I love this Kobe and really don't want to part with it, but every man has his price. had the same guy offer 3k, 4k, then 7k. probably would have taken the 7k, but not sure i want to pay the ebay fees. But yeah i paid $800 for the card, so if i sell it, i can hopefully pick one up for a steal down the road again is my thinking.

Yeah, that's the way I think of it. I shouldn't list if I can't live with the sale. Maybe it's a 2k card, list for 3, if I'm not happy with 3 then I should just keep it because it has more "value" to me than the 3k.

Happens all the time.

If you are afraid of an actual sale why are you selling? I get more issues from buyers who make offers. Those who buy right away tend to be serious non nonsense buyers. These cause the least issues.

If cards never sell for more then they never go up in value.

I have sold non card items for 30 to 40 over comps and never an issue.

Never get emotionally attached to anything you want to sell

Mine was a Kobe also... And again.. Im cool with selling it. But u can sell something and still be sad to part with it.... It sold for 800 dollars more than this card has sold for. Still sad to see it go. I'm probably going pick up another that looks as good as I can get and pocket a couple grand.

The approach that makes sense to me! There is fluidity with this stuff, and as much as I can get attached to these things, there will almost always be more cards in the pipeline that pique my interest (ohhh, new shiny, want).

Is it that Kobe Bowman's Best atomic refractor by any chance?! Love that card.

Exactly, you can go find another gem (not in the grading sense) that you've been pining for that you may even like better. Nah its the 04-05 ultimate collection premium patch, i just love that card/set. i bought it in July/august 2019, times have sure changed. Also i paid less than 800 for that atomic ;)

Feels like people are in a buying frenzy over the past few days. I sold several cards that I've had listed kinda high, in fact they been listed for a few months now, all had someone hit BIN in the past 3 days (all but two were Kobe's). Unexpectedly sold $15k in cards this past weekend. This was on both Ebay and Myslabs

Nice! I don't even know what the atomic is worth (I would guess a lot haha!), one of my fav Kobe refractors, just an amazing card all around.

I mean, for me, part of the fun is looking for stuff, and in order to buy-in on certain things sometimes gotta move some older stuff (that I may prize, but hey, these are just things in the end so just remind myself to enjoy but not become like an over-obsessed Gollum with this stuff!).

Thanks man, yeah my favorite kobe refractor aside from the apparitions from 1998-99 chrome /100 (which i had in psa 10 and foolishly sold in 2013) would be his 1996-97 finest gold refractor, just an amazing design and really puts the chrome rookie refractor to shame imo (again design/not price wise) i regret never picking one up, and i swear you could have one for $1000 for the longest time, just another hobby regret that i know we all have.

The hunt is always one of the most fun things for me, i am right there with you. Not only finding good deals on stuff but also finding cards you may have never seen or haven't been unearthed in many years. But yeah in order to obtain you must stay financially liquid, unless you're rich, i am not.

I read a lot of criticisms about overpriced cards, and I do get the frustration from the buyer's end. But I also do the same with eBay and COMC cards sometimes when I have a card that I really like and/or think will increase in value over the next 6-12 months. I set a price high enough that I am willing to part with it for, and I don't see any harm in it. Is it overpriced? At the time, yeah. But that's the price I know I'd be happy moving it for, and the right offer may come in that we can agree on.

This is kinda what I do... List high if for no other reason than to control when it sells. Kinda goofy... But then I can control... I guess it's the control thing... Woke up and it's sold. I'm good with it for sure.. Especially for what I got for it. Had alot of interest in this particular card all of a sudden the last week after nothing for months.

exactly, we aren't selling mesothelioma victims oxygen tanks so people can live at a price gouging rate, or holding the worlds supply of water that people need to live, its cardboard haha. I laugh every time i hear someone say "they're holding this card hostage" FOH...nothing makes me want to jack the price up even more than an entitled collector. Never sell yourself short, we've all done it, i remember selling luka prizm base rookies for like $20 on comc, i'm very selective about what i even allow myself to price now, i've given away too much. And if i price it high and someone doesn't bite, i'd rather have it sit there than beat myself up saying why didn't i hold out?

Yeah its happened to me once or twice. You put a high buy it now thinking nobody is going to pay that then Boom someone snatches it up. While you're pumped that you got a great selling price but still sad to see it go. At the end of the day if you really didn't want to sell then it shouldn't have been listed in the first place.

1996 topps draft redemption kobe bryant psa 9.....sold for 3499.....day before it sold for 2700 which was the highest it had sold for by quite a bit..... Card ladder had it listed as 1531 which I believe means that's the highest it had previously sold for. My highest offer before that was 2300 which was yesterday that I got that. Paid 650 in January of last year

Sounds like it was win/win for you regarding sale and being able to pick it back up! And I agree, card is always primary no matter what to me. The grading thing, meh, I get it and it's sort of how the marketplace operates, but it's not my favorite thing in the world.

Ya. I probably should send a bunch of stuff off to get graded.. Would allow me to flip, trade down and buy alot more. But the process of mailing off a ton of cards for 9 months doesn't sound great

Same. I certainly don't mind making money with the hobby when I can, but if it was the be all end all for me I'd be a lot more focused on consistently buying raw and grading those purchases. But most of the cards I buy I usually buy to hold if I can, I'll grade a few here and there, but hate not having the cards in hand for such extended periods. And I mostly grade higher value cards that I might move so that I can both get what I hope is proper value on the card and also not have to deal with buyers who then claim there is some extenuating issue with the raw card. I do try and document condition as best I can when I sell raw, but the higher value stuff sometimes people are, well, thinking they are absolutely getting a 10 or something. The grading smoothes out any of those potential complaints.

this, i submitted a few cards for 5 day and they popped pretty quickly the kobe in the group came back as trimmed so im currently trying to get that return to happen on ebay, it *should* because if you can't return a card for being trimmed, but you can return for a "scratched case" the world is completely upside down ha. but some of the other cards included 2 low #ed lebron refractors i got in a lot, seller had 0 feedback and typically these people aren't as careful with their cards, one got a 6, one got an 8, i will not be cracking these because bad grades or not, my buyer knows exactly what they are getting. makes for transparency, and i think with high end/low #ed cards people are more concerned with owning these than what the grade is often times. versus an infinite amount of luka silver prizms where grade kinda does need to separate a bit.

Once, when the OKC were on their run to the Finals, I listed my KD Noble Nameplate at what I thought was a high price before I went to bed, 2 offers and the BIN was hit within the hour.

Since then I would never list an irreplaceable card BIN like that, or at all usually.

Happened once, and I'm still sick to my stomach.

Listed a Kobe Auto for $11,995. In just an hour, I had several offers of $7-$8k.

Told myself, eh, It's late, I'll change the price tomorrow morninig. Don't think someone would actually hit a buy it now without sending offers first. Wrong.

Woke up the next day with a $11,140+ sitting in my Paypal.

Congrats on the sale! Very nice price and you said you already bought another so you basically got $2K for free, can’t get mad about that.

This has happened to me several times - both good and bad. I got a Coby White Checkerboard from Optic retail earlier this year and I think I sold it for like $100 before there were really any comps. That was not egregiously low at the time, but I probably could have gotten a little more for it if I listed it as an auction.

More recently, I hit a LaMelo Ball Prizm Draft Blue Shimmer /13 from a FOTL box, and I put it up for auction twice, and BOTH times the winning bidder did not pay. I think it sold really low the first time, like sub-$300. The second time it sold for a little over $300. Finally after the second deadbeat bidder I just put it up with a BIN of $599. Somebody hit that within a day and paid right away.

Haha, we agreeing on everything!!! and exactly my thinking, I will pay a premium for lower graded but rare cards that I'm chasing.

And regarding cracking low-graded cards, makes it easier to sleep at night when I don't feel like I'm trying to get one over on people. Figure there is enough money to be made without resorting to such tactics, and I'm not starving either, so why do I need to try and screw people over unnecessarily? That's just bad juju ;)

I had some friends coming into town so I knew it was going to be an expensive weekend. Listed a handful of cards on Thursday night to try and balance out the expenses that were coming. Listed a Kobe contenders auto /25 for about double what it was worth. Fast forward to Sunday sitting on the couch and saw someone hit the bin. Thought it was weird, unlocked my phone and a notification popped up that Kobe has passed away. Definitely mad at the sale but honored it.
