Found this one while digging up some old cards.

Would love your opinion on this as I am not sure whether it is worth sending into PSA due to the cost and also the wait times.

The card itself is in fantastic shape, corners seem perfect. Yet as you can see the entire centering is a bit off, seems a bit tilted. how badly does PSA knock the rating based on the entire centering?499227

I'm no grading expert, but a 2nd year Gretzky is a hot card that I think will always have demand, so sending it into grading is a good idea - even if it grades low.

Its a great card but the corners are not perfect, not even close. You also have print marks. 5 maybe 6 tops.

There are some really bad 6s and 7s

Thanks, appreciate your feedback. Where do you see those print marks?

definitely PSA worthy... I think it is @ 7+

Great question and great card - the surface is a little hard to see with the case on, but corners & edges look great. I would put this in the PSA 6 range, but maybe higher if surface scratches/imperfections are all on the case.

Here is my raw second year gretz...I've almost completed his full OPC playing-career run in PSA 8. Would really love to send this one in, but think the lumpy bottom right corner might be a problem (even though this is an original factory cut). Thoughts?

The way that PSA sometimes grades O-PEE-CHEE cards, I would send it in. The grade you get might surprise you. I would say between PSA 6 to 8. OPC cards are graded differently because of the way they were cut.

My guess is 7-8
Edges we’re like that by OPC

absolutely agree the corners are not perfect. Only decent corner is the top right.
I'd say maybe a 6-7.

Your card looks like an easy 8 to me. That "lumpy" bottom right corner means nothing- it is the factory cut- and will not affect the grade.

I would grade any 2nd year Gretzky tbh. He's the sport GOAT and the value will continue to soar for years that old that presumably have poor PSA pop counts.

If you end up with like a 7 or 8 that card could be worth 5 digits one day.

Sure if you add the decimal maybe.
No way any 2nd year OPC hockey hits $10k in a 7. An 8 is also a stretch.
Highest recent sale for a 1967 Topps Orr PSA 7 is about $900.
Highest 1980 Gretzky 8 was $1100. Started with a shill job on PWCC a few weeks ago to jack up the price for insiders to start moving their cards.
I can see 9s maybe cracking 5 digits some day...

I was starting to feel optimistic about this submission until you wrote 'easy' lol  Thank you though - good to know that edge/corner isn't too hideous.

Agree that 5 figures seems very ambitious, even for the long term. Not sure the hobby would be accessible to anyone at those levels.

Should have said 'easily an 8' IMO- as long as there are no surface flaws, scratches etc. not seen in your pic. It's a nice card. And the photo is great with a very young Ryan Walter shadowing the Great One.

So, is there a thread where you can post pics and ask people what they think something would grade at?

I also have a second year Gretzky. The centering on mine is a little better. Surface is great. Corners are a bit rounded. But I'd say it's comparable to this one. I also have a Maurice Richard card that has 4 great corners and is in really good shape...except for two tape (I think) stains across the top.

I just don't know how much something impacts a grade, since I have no experience. And I don't want to hijack this thread. Although I guess I kind of did?

Just start a new thread here then no hijacking.
Alternatively and maybe better to post up in the Grading section with pics asking for opinions. There are a lot of knowledgeable members that are only too happy to chime in
Make the pics clear and describe as best you can any surface issues or other major flaws that might not be visible in a pic. Centering, edges and corners are more easily reviewed.
The tape stains you mention will beat the card grade down in a hurry. An otherwise sharp and centered Rocket card with tape residue is likely at best a 3-4.

I actually just came across the Grading sub-forum. I'll post it there, so as not to hijack anymore!
