Fake/Reprint McDavid Rookie Autos

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I gotta get your guy's opinion and views on these mcdavid rpa reprints on ebay (I would link it, but not sure if it's allowed). There's an SPA Future watch McDavid reprint finishing in 9 hours, that's going for $202 USD right now, with 2 guys bidding on it, one noobie with 10 feedback. It's entitled "Facsimile" which is a sneaky word for reprint. I know it's in the title, so maybe ebay allows it, but I just think it's really shady and an injustice to gullible new collectors about to get duped for hundreds of dollars.

There's also a The Cup RPA McDavid reprint, that's sold a few already via auction. It actually had the word reprint, so I think that's more appropriate, but still finished over $80 USD! It's not even a thick replica, it's on a glossy 20pt standard card, no patch, and a just a photo copy of the card. How on earth do people pay that much money for basically a photo on a card?

Facsimile is a pretty common English word. There is nothing really "sneaky" about it.

I don't understand why someone would want the reprints. That is my only issue. I simply don't understand why there is a market for the reprints. If there was no market for them, people wouldn't make them.

Well I'll be honest with you. I had no idea what that word meant until I googled it this morning lol.

Same sentiments with the reprints, maybe it's just for gratification they have a high end card, regardless of it's authenticity

Reprints are reprints. Some are stamped as such and some are not.
As long as it's stated in the listing then so be it.
Was just a matter of time I suppose that RPA's would start getting copied.
I mean is it really any different than all of the Orr, Wayner, Dryden, Roy, Lemieux, Espo, Hull, Lafleur reprints that are out there now and have been for 20 years? I have some of these- they look great in thick acrylic bricks. Good for paperweights.
But I ain't dropping no 200 bones on one!

Yeah those are against the Ebay terms and services because they're using Upper Deck property. They should always be reported, if not also to help ensure others aren't getting scammed by these things.

Insanity. For that much, at the very least there should be a fake patch on a thick card.
Just goes to show how significant this sports (covid) card boom is, and in hockey how coveted McDavid/Crosby rookie cards are right now. People willing to pay ridiculous money for a reprint, for gratification in pretending to own the hot ticket and also for showcase purposes

That's what I originally thought, and agree it should be taken down, as new collectors could unfortunately get smacked with one heck of a swing right off the hop.
I know there are Gretzky card reprints, but aren't those licensed to reprint? This is different, because it includes a patch and an autograph. And in no where in the listing do they state the thickness of the card, the description is minimal and vague. I had to research it's origin, and found it on etsy for $5. FIVE DOLLARS. Sold for 202! that's a 4000% markup; man I feel so bad for the winner if he actually pays it and gets his expectations absolutely crushed.
I reported 2 of his auctions already in the last week, but ebay did absolutely squat

If someone is moronic enough to pay $200 for a photo of a patch card then that's on them.
How much is a McDavid RPA going for these days? A f**k of a lot more than that.
Buyers need to take a certain amount of responsibility.
If the card is marketed as the real deal that is a different story.
If someone doesn't know the meaning of facsimile then look it up- if not then they can't be helped.
New collectors? Learn the market a wee bit before you jump in with 2 feet thinking you got the deal of the century.
And if they are simply paying up for showcase purposes then who cares? It's their dough they can spend it as they wish. Doesn't matter if the seller only paid $5 for the card and then moves it for a 4000% mark up. Nothing stopping the buyer from doing his due diligence and finding a better deal somewhere else. Shopping around is encouraged.
I sell cards. Where I got them and what I paid for them is completely irrelevant to what I sell them for- which is for the most part whatever the market will bear. Buyers that think my prices are too high or my profit is too steep are free to look elsewhere.
