Spent the last few hours on ebay/comc mounting a watch list of 2015-2018 YG parallels. Got a general idea of what each might be worth. Thought I'd ask the pros
How much more value does each parallel have in relation to it's base YG?
I guess, example if the YG is valued at $100:
-Foil:
-Speckled Rainbow Foil:
-Acetate:
-Exclusives:
-High Gloss:
Thx

I am hardly a pro but:
-Foil:- $150
-Speckled Rainbow Foil: $75
-Acetate: $300
-Exclusives: $225
-High Gloss: $500

Really really depends on the player, year, print runs, etc. My completely unqualified opinion on where values “should” fall:
-Foil: 2-4x
-Speckled Rainbow Foil: 5-10x
-Acetate: 3-5x
-Exclusives: 3-8x
-High Gloss: 10-20x+
I’m sure there are a bunch of real-world examples where I look absolutely stupid for what is stated above, but just kind of laying out my tolerances when shopping.

I’d have exclusives slightly higher and acetate a little lower. They’ve bounced around with how rare the acetate ones have been. Sometimes it’s 1 every 3 boxes, 1 every 6, it’s a little uncertain set to set it seems

Speckled foil parallel less than the original YG ($100)? Or typo, 175 maybe
From what I've read, Acetate's used to be more rare/expensive than Exclusives, but apparently that's changed in the last couple years, with Acetate print run more than double the Exclusives. Not sure how true that is though

This is kind of what I found too. Silver Foil 3x, Speckled 7-8x, Acetate 5x, Exclusives 10x, and High Gloss almost has it's own monopoly for pricing

Man, it's so much smarter to wait on 95% of the rookies, when trying to collect all their YG parallels. The vast majority of them will plummet in price within a few years, if not within one season. The people who snatched em up while they're hot, at peak prices, will feel inclined to sell at a fraction of the initial price, just to save what's left on a seemingly failed investment
I gathered 7 Silver Foils, 2 Speckled and 3 Acetate YGs (comc/ebay) all for less than $100. On initial release the lot probably would've costed 3-10 times the current value

Year after year, prospect after prospect people think it will be different.
If your name isn't McDavid or Matthews and maybe Marner, it won't be different.
The bolded is known in technical analysis as "support becomes new resistance"
Marner and Mcdavid had drops too after they came out.

I think most of those valuations are low for premium players. Keep in mind that it takes 5 YGs to make a silver and 3 silvers to make a rainbow. While that doesn't mean that there absolutely should be a 5x and 15x multiplier on the prices, it's a realistic starting point. The reality is that on absolutely rarity, they should actually be more expensive than that, because you can't just buy 15 base YG on ebay and get a sparkle.
We also have to be careful with what we call the "acetate" YG. There are two different cards that can potentially be described as that, and if you don't know what to look for, it's confusing as hell -
- The acetate see through cards that come in Upper Deck flagship. These are NOT "Acetate Young Guns" per the checklist and grading companies, but are accurately described as Clear Cut Young Guns. They have the same image as the base YG and are a flat, normal acetate card.
- The two layer, thick cardboard on acetate Young Guns parallels that are released as an insert in SPA. These ARE "Acetate Young Guns" per the grading companies - they aren't on the checklist and are done as an unlisted SSP. They use a different image than the base YG, which is how you can tell them apart from a picture. My anecdotal evidence is that these are quite a bit rarer than the Clear Cut YGs, but I haven't studied it deeply.

Practical example -
Heiskanen base YG - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Upper-Deck-Young-Guns-Miro-Heiskanen-RC-BGS-9-5-Gem-Mint/284160391565?hash=item422947798d:g:4SMAAOSwuwFgCGTc
Heiskanen Clear Cut YG - https://www.ebay.com/itm/18-19-SERIES-1-YOUNG-GUNS-MIRO-HEISKANEN-CLEAR-CUT-BGS-9-5-Rookie/124311297355?hash=item1cf187dd4b:g:PLAAAOSwVEJdKiCv
Heiskanen Acetate YG - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Miro-Heiskanen-18-19-Upper-Deck-SSP-Young-Guns-Update-Clear-Cut-Acetate-BGS-9-5/383245083049?hash=item593b2fe1a9:g:PVoAAOSw8G1dtH8C
The most confusing part is that the Acetate YG are labeled as part of Upper Deck and not SPA, even though they've been released in SPA since inception from what I understand.

Why do people even foil their cards on epack? It devalues the card so much unless it's a nobody. I foiled my Joe Hicketts because they are worth nothing, but foiling an Pettersson makes no sense to me.

Very interesting. I've only recently got into YGs after focusing more on on premier/fwa when I got back into the hobby and until today I thought that acetate and clear cut were used interchangeably. Thanks for the examples. Going to bookmark this so I can refer back to it when I need to.

#1 High Gloss
#2 Exclusives
Everything else is just overkill with no history. I will say the gold outburst 1/1 is pretty cool!

UD seems to have hit a home run with the Red Outburst parallels. Those sell like hot cakes.
