He’s pissed because he sold early. But he’s too stupid to realize that his sale of the various Trout is what propelled us to where we are today.

No, I don't think he's angry.
I don't know the man very well but from what I've seen of him and read of him (and read what he's said), I think it's more about power. The man has money, and most of what anyone would likely want in life but the thing that likely keeps drawing him to the flame is that he believes he has power over people. The ability to have an entire market rise, then fall simply by his command.
Say he had 3 large in the video that he burned just in cash. He could have taken that $3k and given it to someone or donated it somewhere that it would have made all the difference in the world. Instead, here we are. Talking about him.

This is what I'm hung up on too. I have to confess I didn't watch - kinda don't want to - but what is his rationale for burning money?
We can debate about the burning of cards, but he's talking about the card market so that's at least relevant. I doubt he's making an argument against money, so what was the point of burning money that could have done some good in the world?
Feels like a guy just trying to puff himself up and not realizing that many of us are just seeing him as an entitled douche.

Burning money is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code, which says that “whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.” THAT MONEY WAS FAKE PEOPLE LOL:)! He got his attention, but nobody, and I mean nobody in the hobby thinks he’s anything but a loser. The market will not change because of him now. Just like it didn’t meaningfully change when he bought the Trout Super because nobody was buying anything he was saying.

What vegas dave is doing is called a induction. He is inducing people to sell at losses while him and his buddys are buying, don't fall for the trick. I day trade the futures market and this is the oldest trick in the book.
Why are we paying attention to this guy who can’t even correctly identify a Magic Johnson rookie?

I think he is diverting attention from his 50/50 call on the bowl while selling his picks. Apparently he charges $1k for his picks of the week or the "Whale pick". Then people outed for sending bucs as the pick while others said they got chiefs as the pick. He 50/50 his whale picks to people that way it looks like hes never wrong to half the people.

Old time mail scam. Start with 5,000 people and send out different pick of the same game to half. Then take the 2,500 you hit with, rinse repeat. 1,250 one more time and you end up with 600+ people who like to gamble and think you know what you're doing.

If his Trout buy/sale was what started all this, why is it basically everything aside from MLB that caught fire hobby-wise?

Not sure what MLB you’re looking at...
His Trout Red set up the Trout Super. Which set the new bar for what modern can achieve. Same going back to the Jordan PMG Green that Nat bought. That was the lighting of the match for 90s basketball.

That's honestly the worst part of this. If they are so worthless just donate them. Nobody cares that you think the card market is going to crash. Burning $100 bills and old cards isn't going to make me believe you more. The things people do for attention...

Vegas Dave is a moron and always has been - big flip or not. But can we stop pretending ANY of these hobby “influencers” have anything but their own interests in mind? People are quick to trash Vegas Dave, but don’t mind Gary V when the message aligns with their agenda.
I’ve always found it fascinating how “the hobby” seems to latch on to anyone with a modicum of success or fame that offers their endorsement. It’s almost as if the hobby has a massive complex that requires validation from any D-lister that offers it.
None of them (or a vast majority at least) care about “the hobby” or individual collectors. They will move on whenever they deem the hobby to no longer be a valid medium to advance their own cause/brand/etc.

This is one of the primary reasons I believe the market will continue to grow.
Everyone has their own interests in mind. Myself included. And unlike other markets where there is regulation, competition or other factors that can drive prices down (short selling, for example), I've not really figured out why someone would influence or wealth would want the market to crater. Sure, there are some who would see a buying opportunity at point X but that does not crater a market, that's simply a normal curve which resembles a healthy, bull market.
Where does the downward pressure come from?

I mean I don't know that 1/1s can 'set the bar' - and I don't know that this [mostly] basketball explosion is really stemming from Trout. Most new people buying in probably wouldn't recognize Trout on the street... I do remember Nat chasing the PMGs and I think that could have contributed a much bigger effect that what VD has done.
