Wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this situation. The good ol eBay mess haha.

I bought and paid for a lot of cards on 3/5. Some time later, the seller messaged me and said he mixed up the address on packages he was sending and mine went to some other guy. I figure this happens on rare occasions, so ok- it’s happened to me before once. He said he would pay the guy who got the package to ship it to the correct address (me), as is usual for this situation. It is now 3/22 and I have received no packages.

Edit: situation likely solved, so I deleted the rest of this post. I received a message on eBay like 10 min after making this post (go figure the timing) and the guy is going to forward the package. I thought when making this post he wasn’t going to ship it to me.

I still wonder in hypothetical cases what recourse there could be if someone else receives your package bc seller mixed up addresses and then he doesn’t ship it out. Would eBay even care.

As a seller, I admit I do this about once a quarter. Here is my process:

1. Refund both buyers
2. Depending on values and/or Buyer Sentiment, send a SASE to both buyers to retrieve cards
3. Depending on values and/or Buyer Sentiment, send retrieved card for 1. Free (Value <$20); 2. Offer at 15% discount 3. Nothing

As a buyer, I'd expect to mail the wrong items back at seller's expense and a refund

Thank you. Yes I imagine these mistakes do happen rarely. I edited the OP, looks like this situation might be solved now.

I was just wondering what could have been done if the other buyer did just keep the package and not send it back to the seller or to me (in my case it now looks like he is forwarding it, thankfully).

The seller should realisticly have the items sent back to him not have the buyers send to each other. When I do it have not done it in a while but it happens. I have them open claims for not as described they return them then if they still each want them I relist them at that point and let them repurchase.. This way if one decides not to return its on record and Ebay can see it and will help in getting other actions done if needed. If he fails to return it then he gets stuck with the wrong card and at this point most likely any feedback they leave is removable since they never returned it.

I had this happen and the seller let me keep the wrong cards and somehow got me the right cards. My purchase was an $8 lot, the other was a $6 lot. Quite frankly, I'm surprised he didn't just refund both of us and tell us to keep the wrong cards. It would have probably been cheaper for him.

About once a year I send the wrong card(s) to someone. Usually I catch it when I print the label for other buyer. I will then message first person asking if they're willing to accept the prepaid mailer to other person along with their card(s) and usually a bonus. Nobody has declined. It's rare so I can take the ding on shipping delay. The alternative is to cancel and few buyers want that.
