View Full Version : Ebay Questions: Never Received Item

Hi all, have some questions for a semi-newbie. I placed an order for a hockey card earlier this month, the seller is in Canada and I'm in the US. The seller provided tracking info when he sent it. Usually orders from Canada can take a while but according to the tracking it was scheduled to be delivered fairly early, April 17th after being scanned in my city.
On the 17th, it was marked "out for delivery" but it was never delivered, nor was there a delivery scan. Then the next day the status said "awaiting delivery scan", then it's been silence since then. On the 25th I opened a research case with USPS but haven't heard anything yet. I have two questions:
1. Have any of you had a package turn-up after getting an "awaiting delivery scan" message and a week of nothing? Is it likely it's lost or is it possible it'll turn up?
2. I communicated with the seller to keep them informed (as I would want as a seller) though they didn't say much in reply. My understanding is that you have 30 days from the expected delivery date to file for a refund so I will wait to hope it turns up. If it is lost after that time, what's the etiquette for a refund? I feel bad asking for a full refund since it was sent and the post office lost it, should I negotiate a refund for half and split the loss?
Thanks!

It's the sellers responsibility to get the item to you. Do don't feel bad asking for a full refund. There are cases where an item showed delivered but took a few more days to arrive

Full refund if it doesn't show, but here's my question. Is it really 30 days from expected delivery date or is it 30 days from actual delivery date or is it 30 days from purchase date?

When I have had delivery issues in the past I left a note in my mailbox with whatever tracking info you have available and let the mail person sort it out. They have more tools to see what is going on than you do. GL

30 days from latest expected delivery date on items not received. Its 30 days from delivery date on items not as described.

I had one recently (I was the seller) where it said “Out for Delivery” and then “Awaiting Delivery Scan” by the end of a Saturday (every seller’s nightmare). By Monday it said delivered.
Awaiting delivery scan usually means the carrier forgot to scan on delivery but still delivered the package....but not always. In your case, that’s not the case, but the seller will probably think that’s what’s going on and not be happy. As mentioned, it’s seller’s responsibility to get package to you, and if it truly wasn’t delivered, you would file an item not received claim if he doesn’t refund.
What I would do? I would try to talk to the mail carrier- they will know what’s going on the most. That, or go into the local post office and talk to a clerk/ask for a supervisor- that’s worked for me in the past. This is a local mail delivery issue, so that’s the place to ask questions about it.

Before asking for a refund have you checked with neighbors to see if they got it by mistake? Have you asked your carrier if he made a mistake?

Thank you. This will definitely help in the future.

Good point. I had something of one of my neighbors in my mail tonight. I'll walk it over there tomorrow, but not all people will do that.

OP- I am having a similar situation on a package from Canada. Did your order go through the ISC Chicago facility? Right now my package I bought has been stuck there since April 15th. Estimated Delivery was April 19th. No update yet except 'arrived at international service center'. I am not even sure who to contact.

The seller. Its ultimately their responsibility.

I had a package that I dropped off on Monday, it was "Waiting .. USPS Awaiting For Item." until it was Delivered Saturday. Don't trust USPS tracking in real-time.

During that big ice storm in February I had about 10 that went this route. No scans for 2-3 weeks until they showed up in my mailbox.
