What makes a card valuable? Is it a fighting record, popularity, achievements?
Aside from the obvious such as rarity & physical condition of the card itself.
ALSO any rumblings on what or when Panini's next UFC line of cards will come out?

I feel like it's the fighters who have crossover popularity are the most valuable. I don't think there's any one specific metric that pops out to evaluate that, aside from maybe most PPV buys or Twitter followers.
This isn't unique with MMA, as with team sports there are players who are future HOF that the hobby never catches up to. I tend to collect fighters who I like to watch fight and try not to pay as much attention to the top stars like a McGregor.
Also wanted to add, one thing that can be fun to do is collect top contenders that you think can be a future champ or has an upcoming fight on a big PPV or headlining an ESPN card. I think of it as similar to people who enjoy prospecting Bowman baseball cards.
At the first press release Panini had in January, they announced that Select is coming in July and I've seen either Contenders or Chronicles in September, different sites reported different brands.

That's what I thought, so one has to become a talent scout of sorts. Makes sense & I like it, thanks for responding!

These days social media clout makes cards valuable. In UFC you see Sean O'Malley cards probably sell for more than they should just like Lamelo Ball in NBA because they have big social media followings. They are both great young talents but their cards sell for a disproportionately prices compared to what they have actually accomplished so far.

Same thing that makes everything else valuable. A demand based on popularity.
Conor is one of the most collectable, if not the most, in the sport but he's not the best fighter. Mickey Mantle isn't the best baseball player of all time but he is the most valuable.

A fighter's popularity helps but fans are fickle. If you have chase a card.... go for the rookie and true rookie (not that rookie year crap).
