USPS “Insufficient Address” Help please

Hello,

I was hoping anyone could give some guidance on how to handle this situation.

I shipped a $900 item I sold on eBay May 1st. I shipped priority 2 day with insurance. On may the 5th it was out for delivery and updated at the end of day saying “No access”.
In the description it said they would try again on the next business day.

After a couple days of no update, may the 8th the tracking changes to “insufficient address”. Description says it is being returned to myself.

Tracking hasn’t updated since then and the buyer is asking for a refund. I had a couple questions as this has never happened to me:

1. Should I contact usps and try to find out what’s going on?
2. Will tracking not update again before it’s returned?
3. How could the address be insufficient is the package was out for delivery a couple days earlier.

Something doesn’t seem to add up with the tracking. Thanks for any help.

3 - package could have been damaged, or the label smeared or something to that effect

There’s a postal recovery center in Atlanta I believe for packages that get damaged.

Postal workers aren’t allowed to put back an item if they aren’t 100% sure it came from the package. You should put tape over the addresses and also write a return address on the package inside.

I feel there’s been some many packages not scanned. Also due to covid, packages are able to be signed by the Carrier only if they make positive id of the person it’s addressed to.

Lots of missed scans or wrong status input.

You will not be held liable if it was returned for an insufficient address and never gets back to you. I had it happen a few months ago Ebay sided with me on the claim since I printed lable on Ebay. It could be truly wrong or could be a lazy postal worker.

no access can mean a few things, notably a locked gate, blocked doorway, missing mailbox, animal interference..etc. insufficient address likely means the address listed is incorrect or doesnt contain the proper apartment, suite or other identifying address in order for the package to be delivered properly.

I would tell the buyer to kick rocks asking for a refund for now. contact their local post office where the delivery was supposed to be attempted. they may be able to clarify with the carrier what the deliver exception was. have you tried to google map their address or verify its valid? I wouldn't send a refund until you speak with the post office and determine if its definitely being returned and what the reasons for non-delivery was.

I would not refund anything until its back in my hands then I would refund everything minus shipping Ebay will not hold you responsible if they open a claim. This is the same as a refused package in that regards.

The guy opened a claim and eBay is stepping in Monday if nothing happens. I went to my post office today and the manager checked tracking and said it looks like it is still sitting at the buyers local post office and they haven’t actually mailed it back yet.

I can’t get anyone to answer the phone at his local post office and the buyer claimed earlier this week he went up there and they said it was returned.

I feel like this guy is trying to scam me. I don’t know what else to do.

Do not let ebay's computer decide the case. As soon as case was opened contact them via mesages or through Facebook. The computer is very unpredictable

what's the address/zip code of their local post office? which number did you try? every time ive called the non-800 number to the local post office someone has picked up and was helpful.

I'm very curious on how this plays out. I'm on the other side of the coin. I bought a lot here on blowout earlier this month.

Here's the copy and paste of the tracking. OP... I don't want to piggyback, but we are in the same situation, just on different sides of the coin.

I have received close to 400 packages this year at my apartment, this is the only time this has happened.

I'd like to know how it was delivered, then Insufficient Address the next day. There is a log that every package has to be signed in and cameras up front.

I was in the office 20 minutes after the email notification of delivery.

My address is Paypal verified if that matters.

Any help or update from the OP is appreciated

eBay closed the case yesterday and sided with me. They stated that since the there was an attempted delivery at the buyers house, the buyer is responsible for going to the post office and picking up the package.

I am happy with this obviously but I now am perplexed at what happened to the package. It’s still out there somewhere, will it ever show up? Or maybe the buyer did get the package and since it didn’t ever update he tried to get his money back as well. I’m not sure what’s going on. I still plan to file a lost package claim with USPS on June 1st and maybe that will light a fire under them to trace it.

Update,

Buyer has now opened a dispute with their CC company and is trying to chargeback. eBay sent me a email and all I can do is supply the tracking that they already have which still hasn’t updated since this all started.

Not sure how this is going to go but I’m worried that his CC may not think the same way Ebay does with tracking
