View Full Version : Ebay Standard Envelope Tracking Problem!

Long story short:
I purchased a skybox autographics card for my set. Ebay tracking (ESUS) says card was delivered on August 10. Mind you it only says it was delivered to my zip code and not even my actual address. I never receive the card. I give it a week to show up and wait for the time to escalate to get ebay involved (today August 17). Not two minutes after I get ebay involved I got a message saying basically case closed because tracking says delivered.:doh:
I've appealed it but it's not like I have any proof. What more can I do? Wasn't an expensive card but still. Happening to anyone else?

That sucks.. Have you hopped on the horn with ebay? Thats definitely the next step.
I havent received any cards this way but I have used it as my shipping method for a bunch of cards recently.
I had heard some folks like it and others hate it but its worked out great for me thus far, but I can definitely see how problems can arise.
I had a card that said it was delivered. Showed up two weeks later. I would bet that it does arrive.

I've had to issue 3 refunds due to USPS "losing" these cards shipped out. The ESUS tracking # never updated, simply left at "label created" and nothing happened after that. Buyers reach out to me asking where the card is, or they just go straight to a item never received case request.
The last one pissed me off b/c it was a Donruss Elite Spellbound Steph Curry for $18 that I had to refund. I'm going to stop using that shipping method for cards even close to the $20 limit. I know it's more attractive for cheap shipping for the buyers but it's useless if the card gets lost and never makes it.
If you think about it, the buyer could easily lie and just send the item never received case which they would easily win in the scenario where the tracking # never had any updates on it.
I do plan to submit eBay Shipping Protection Plan claim to see if I can get refunded as a seller in these situations where it's 100% USPS fault. You just have to wait 30 days after the label for shipment was generated.

Haven't gotten on the phone yet but plan to if work gives me a minutes to do so. I received 4 other items in the same time span. 1 video game and 3 movies without any issues. This is the first time in many years of using ebay that I don't receive an item.
Anyone get a number to Ebay CS? Every time i try to look for one it just roundabouts me back to click options.

Hope so, since right now seems like I'm SOL.

When i googled the ESUS tracking I've heard it's been pretty shoddy to others. I've had luck with people just sending PWE if they want to be cheap lol

That's happened to me multiple times with USPS tracking for first class mail, I would say it has nothing to do with eBay's standard envelope. Although I must say that eBay standard envelope tracking has been inconsistent for me in terms of not updating at all after a certain point.
OP, give it some time, since I've had several cases of "marked as delivered" then actually delivered some time later (few days, etc.)

I'll keep waiting. I just find it very odd that I received 4 other items in the same time span through USPS (not ESUS) without a hiccup.

With the ebay standard envelope, there's so many scan points that often get missed because people think it's just a normal letter/PWE.
As a buyer and seller, there's been times that it's taken an extra week or two for it to show up despite it being scanned in. One time, a card almost took a month to come in.
I hate situations like this because you or the seller didn't do anything wrong. Hopefully it's just delayed and it shows up for you!

As a buyer I recently had a card not get delivered. The tracking never updated and the seller refunded me. I felt bad for the seller, but there’s a chance they never actually shipped it. I told them if I end up receiving the card I’ll reach out and pay them.
I agree the cheaper shipping is attractive, but unless they work out a better tracking system with USPS I don’t think it will last.

Have you already tried these pages:
https://www.ebay.com/help/contact_us?id=4042&st=10 (click the thing that says connect with an agent on the left)
or
https://www.ebay.com/help/call_us?type=ContactUs&initFrom=HOME&topicId=4000
From what I recall ebay didn't have a number, but eventually you can get to a page where you give your # and they call you.
If those don't work try asking in the eBay forum on blowout - people there usually are pretty knowledgeable. https://www.blowoutforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44

It's not going anywhere. It is something that has been around for years but the data has been internal to put ey bowled. The USPS has no control over the scanning of these. It is scanned when the item goes through certain postal machines the number is tracked via Pitney Bowes for their metered mail services.
If they do away with it many sellers will just go back to pwe on these items like they were before

Unless ebay paid the refund themselves then the seller got paid twice for it.

Be sure to check with your neighbors, I had a buyer reach out with same situation and it was delivered to one of his neighbors.

That sucks. I’ve noticed a lot of the time my orders are delivered without being tracked as delivered. These past purchases never updated. I can see that getting abused
On a side note, I sell stickers too and would love for eNay to roll out something similar for us so I can at least attempt to offer tracking to those who buy my stuff.
Another thing to note, is that the unreliable tracking makes this service feel like it’s stuck in beta testing. It makes me sweat to consider using it just because im not ready to handle any negs because the tracking sporadically dies along the way and there’s no proof it was actually delivered which is likely the case.
Knock on wood for having good and honest buyers and that i havent made any really serious mistakes.

Ebay has been removing negs for these for non-delivery if the item shows its in the system.
People keep saying this is new its not new. Pitney Bowes has used this info for years when a piece of mail goes into a machine the first time a bar code is applied to it like the one printed out. This barcode is scanned through the systems and tracking is available to Pitney Bowes or anyone who knows how to get the info.
There was a company a few years ago that was offering the same service for PWE sellers and it was trackable. Etsy has had a similar systm in place for years as well. However Ebay never recognized the tracking for protection.

It's a really weird tracking system, not sure how it works but it's not an item the carrier scans. I've had a number of sales/purchases delivered but the tracking never updated. I treat them as low dollar pwe's (and a bonus if it actually gets proper tracking). Regardless, I always leave (+) feedback when received. And feel lucky when a buyer does the same for me (honor system)! Risky but not gonna sweat over $10-20.
I've been lucky so far, the only problem I had to refund was a jersey card that got bent up in the usps sorting machine. Would be nice if there was some sort of semi-insurance built in.. like up to $5 for items lost or damaged.

There is insurance built in. All items sent via this method have an automatic 20 dollar coverage in them. You have to wait 30 days to file but getting the money back is pretty easy and quick

With over 200 items sold I had absolutely no issues yet. Either I have been pretty lucky or more likely this is a great service! I typically sell older vintage and current modern cards that are numbered. Things that people won't get graded and just want for their PC. I have no complaints about this as a buyer or a seller.
The only thing I ask is please use blue painters tape if you are a seller!

Very nice gesture - BUT If eBay decides a case in your favor - don't do this; the seller should appeal their case and will receive $$ from eBay, not you. Next time just message the seller, say you got it and tell them to appeal - everyone will be made whole that way

Yup, most likely this is what happened. Ebay refunded you as a customer in good faith and the seller retained their money since it showed delivered.

i can count the number on issues on one hand over the past year selling via PWE. Even before this program problems were very few. Since it started I have shipped a couple of thousand of these and have had like 3 issues.

I have used the standard envelope shipping quite a bit and rarely run into delivery problems. If you are a seller, you can use this link to open a claim if a buyer does not receive their cards (after you refund buyer):
https://www.pip-claim.com/PIPClaim/eBayIntClaim/CreateeBayClaim
Ebay has paid me back every time I have had a delivery issue - you just have to wait a full 30 days after the sale to submit your claim.

Yep this works amazingly well. I waited the 30 days and was able to get paid back on a $5 and an $18 card that got lost by USPS. Usually takes them about 2 days after submitting and you get it, vey quick and easy, straight to your PayPal account.

I am sitting in the same boat as OP except that I am the seller. I have been told by the buyer that the cards have not been delivered even though it is marked delivered. I have asked him to check and see if it was delivered to a neighbor. He said he has done so.
Do I let ebay step in and sort this whole thing out or do I go ahead and refund the buyer? I was thinking I wouldn't be able to be refunded with the insurance after 30 days because the item shows as delivered.

This happened to me and I just told the buyer to work it out with ebay customer service. Once it says 'delivered' there's not much you can do. If you tried submitting a refund through ebay I'm sure it would be denied.

The card may not be delivered for a few days or even a week. Keep in mind now that things are backed up at many USPS locations because of Ida. Tell them to be patient and see if it comes within the week. Nothing is scanned in when it is "delivered." Typical protocol would be that the buyer would file against you and you would win because of it being delivered. The buyer then can do an appeal and eBay would probably just give them their money back through the insurance or from goodwill. Losing a customer over a $5 to $15 card is not worth it for eBay.
