We had a gentleman show up in our shop with an entire 1980 complete set, but he tore all the cards back in the day instead of keeping them whole. I understand the desire for them in their original configurations, but what about as torn? Just trying to get some advice before we tell this guy what should be done. I'd imagine selling as a set would be ideal, but is there even a want for these in their current form? Thanks in advance!

Beckett will grade the single panel cards. PSA does not appear to.

I think most collectors wouldn't want it. (Me included) Most perforated cards when sold individually sell for a fraction of the unperforated.

There is still a market for them. There's this website you can go to look at sold prices. I think it's called something like www.ebay.com but not sure.

Kind of wanted to get the opinion of the board on how they felt about the perforated cards since a lotta guys on this board have been in the hobby for a long while and have a good finger on the pulse. I wasn't asking for comps. Appreciate the helpful comment though friend.

According to his emails - he even has the opportunity to refinance his Ebay Capital Selling Loan. Cracks me up - Opinion on the market, but no interest in looking at the best indicator for the market

Sorry, I thought when you said "Is there even a want for these?" that looking at Ebay would be a good indication of the demand.

I suppose I could have worded my original post differently and could have been more specific. I know I could look at ebay completed sales to see sales history, but typically when doing research more then one source is ideal. I use this board as a source because I trust the opinions of the members here and would use any information here AND comps to advise my customer.

These cards don't belong to me, nor are we going to purchase them from him to resell. It seemed like a special situation in the sense that all the cards are separated as opposed to complete so I wanted to see how people felt about them in current condition. The only time I've dealt with any of these cards were when they were complete, so I came here to get opinions. I figured there would be someone that loves or collects this particular set and would give their opinion on them in their current state. Similar to the Peel vs. no peel on Topps Finest, I was seeing if opinions differed on these separated vs. complete besides the obvious value difference when looking at sales. Aside from the trolls(not saying you're a troll) there are a lot of knowledgeable people here that have been in the game a lot longer than I have and I wanted to get opinions.

I think there's going to be someone interested in them. Just not for a high price. I think there are still collectors that...have teams they like, and want to collect. Players they like, and want to collect. And complete sets. My old high school buddy just met me for lunch. I never knew he collected cards. He told me he had a complete 1955 Topps baseball set. I went nuts. He said they were all graded 3s (even the Roberto Clemente rookie), but I told him the set would still sell well. Obviously, these ripped cards are a far cry. And as a kid, I ripped many of these (but was smart enough to keep my 2 Bird/Magic/Erving rookie cards together!!!). I was surprised to see the Bird, when ripped from the other two players, was still worth $100 (as it's his rookie). So yeah...I'd take the set, if you can get it at a good price.
