Good morning Blowout,

I was wondering if anyone has experience fighting a negative feedback. I sold a card on June 24th and a couple days ago the buyer messaged me saying the condition was bad, it was scratches on it and he was very upset. I apologized to him and told him I'd refund if he sent card back. I screwed up return and just ended up refunding him and said he could keep the card. It was a $2 card. Another ebayer reached out to me just now and said same guy is threatening to leave negative feedback as well. Once I sent refund he stopped replying. How do I fight this?

DM @askebay on Twitter or contact ebay for business on facebook. Message them the story emphasizing that you did everything in your power to accommodate the buyer and in the end even issued a full refund while also allowing him to keep the item. It isn't guaranteed to work, but a lot of the time they will remove the negative feedback if you do this.

Thanks for the reply, I don’t have a Twitter so this won’t work for me unfortunately!

maybe one of the ways we can fight negative feedback, is as buyers, to take it all with a grain of salt. Not that feedback should be ignored, but i think it needs to be valued appropriately. A few stray comments here or there shouldn't be a statistically relevant cause to avoid a seller. This just gives too much power to petulant customers. Now if patterns emerge, then you have something. When you see a seller who over and over again cancels orders, is late to ship, packages poorly, or misrepresents the product, now you have something.

As a buyer, one of the things that really helps me is when the seller responds to the negative feedback explaining why the feedback is out of order.

This doesn't really help the OP, but just felt like getting my two cents out there.

The eBay for Business on Facebook has worked for me....sometimes takes a few hours, but 100% positive results.

One neg is not going to hurt you one bit. Even multiple negs do not hurt unless you get multiple in a short period o time for the same reason. Ebay does not count negs against sellers in anyway. Its just for buyers and over the years the buyers who worry about you having negs for random things at different times when you have many good ones are buyers who you don't want to do business with anyway. Nearly everytime its a scammer trying to play games that brings up your feedback.

Just resond stating you gave refund and allowed buyer to keep item and most rational sellers will see that and see the feedbak he left and can see you did what you should have done and that the buyer is unreasonable they even admit that in their feedback.

I'm with you - if i see a few negatives I just read what the complaint was and most of the time they are petty complaints so it does not affect whether i would buy from the person. but i also tend to buy lower priced things. if you're selling really expensive cards the negatives might hurt more.

I don't use Twitter either but it's handy to have an account ready so you have another avenue to reach customer service.

eBay can reverse it. I had a negative feedback selling CGC book (buyer not happy with newton rings). I have 100% feedback since eBay was born. I sold a CGC book that had newton rings (it was pictured) before CGC fixed this miscue, it does not damage the book. The buyer didn't mention it until he opened a case, I immediately refunded the full amount. A few days later, I got a negative from the buyer. I asked why since I refunded you the money, his response was he was having a bad day. Ebay at first, didn't want to reverse the negative even though I told them the buyer got refunded immediately and the buyer wants to change the feedback through messages. A week later, the negative was dropped. Eventually, I sold the book later at a slightly higher price with a happier buyer because I added a few more comic books to the CGC book.

In your case the buyer wanted to change it and stated that so that is why. Far different scenario here. It's hit or miss getting them removed. I have 2 where the buyer committed clear feedback extortion and ebay refused to remove them because neither buyer ever opened a claim.

In my experience, I've had to speak with eBay customer service multiple times to get feedback removed. It seems like they make it somewhat of a difficult process to weed out those that aren't serious about getting it resolved. I would expect they would take care of it, especially in a situation where you provided a full refund.

I had a neg removed in 30 min. Guy left me a neg on 3rd shipping day in december during covid lockdown. One of the worst buyers I’ve had in over 20 yrs on ebay. Some people just want to go out of their way to be difficult and mess with people.

If the neg was for slow shipping and you ship in your stated handling time the neg is guaranteed to be removed.

In the ops case it's honestly very rare unless the buyer violated some obvious rule. Offering free 30 day returns greatly increases the odds of getting negs removed.

He did. If you mention Feedback as a buyer in ANY message, eBay sees it as Feedback Extortion

Op never said if th buyer threatened him, he said he was contacted by another seller who was being threatened so that is unclear.

I wish I could get the reps that you get on these, I have had some good ones but lately its like pulling teeth with them. Had 3 reps tell me a neg was not removable for extortion His exact words were.

"I do not want to return this item I want to keep it so you are going to give me a 12.00 refund or I will be leaving you negative feedback."

My reply was return for full refund it was an 18.00 item. Three different reps said sine he never opened a claim he is entitled to his opinion. Even his feedback left indicated he was fishing for a partial. Even worse the defect he was complainig about was stated in the listing.

Put the feedback removal request in with all my notes and saying I refund and let him keep card immediately after his complain which was 2 months later. Put all the info in and 15 minutes get email saying they’re not removing feedback.

Put feedback removal request to buyer but I know that won’t work cause he won’t respond to messages.

It is just 1 negative and I’ll reply to it, just frustrated.

Thanks for all the reply’s. I’d block this guy if you can

He said it was damaged 2mobths later?? You should have never refunded. Should have told him to open a claim then when he did contact ebay have it closed in your favor. They have 30 days from delivery to open a claim past that ebay will side with the seller

What the others suggested--message ebay via FB or Twitter.

Found this article on ebay's social media team...

In the old days you paid $20 to have ebay remove feedback and both parties had to agree. Either that or you needed a court order. Today ebay reps have a lot more leeway to make decisions regarding feedback removal. If you don't get a resolution from the first person you contact then hang up call again.

That was in 2017 last year they took away a lot of the power of Ebay reps to do much of anything anymore. Up until bout June of last year it was easy to get negs removed and cases resolved in your favor. Since then it has become more difficult but no where near impossible. The key is still getting the right rep.

Figures ebay would take the teeth out of its social media team. Still think it's worth trying Twitter or Facebook.

At least feedback removal is still free for now. Wouldn't be surprised if ebay went back to charging for it.

It was needed buyers were getting removed from bbls just by calling negs that wre deserved getting removed. Some negs are accurate the one the op while it sucks it's accurate buyer wanted item it arrived damaged that's a negative transaction. I have 2 in the past year I told the buyer to neg me. I don't fear negs

That sucks. Just exit chat and get back in - I just go until I get the determination I want; you annoy them enough they do what you want to get you to leave them alone.

I'm confused here. So OP didn't get and isn't being threatened with negative feedback but someone that contacted him is?

Am I reading this correctly?

No I got negative feedback after fully cooperating and refunding buyer. Someone had reached out to me about the feedback saying the buyer was trying to do same thing to them
