I have three. When I was 14 years old, going to a card show, and it was my first time seeing a Bill Russell rookie at a table. I bought it for $45, and I only showed up at the convention with $60!!! (at the time, Beckett guide had it worth $75, I believe). My mom was SCREAMING at me when I got home and told her what I paid (this was early '80s, and a lot of money for a kid).

Another was the Magic/Bird/Erving rookie card, for $15 at a card show. I hate the 1980 Topps set with a passion, but that was the card everyone said you had to have (this was around 1984). I bought it, figuring I needed one. Then later, I went thru my boxes, and saw I already had one!! (I also had another one, that, my dumb ass ripped apart from the other players, because....hey, I'm a kid!)

Lastly, was the five packs of '61 Fleer, unopened. What was weird about this purchase was...I was a bit older. Had a bit more money (I was 17). I showed up at this card show with $150. The third table I went to, had boxes and boxes of '61 Fleer, selling for $25 a pack. That's one of my favorite sets, and I only had a few common players from that year at the time. I bought 5 packs, and shot my wad. I had only $25 for the rest of the show (and I think I bought wacky items, as I was always fond of inserts and things of that nature).

Obviously, all those purchases ended up being great. What was the best you've ever gotten? (and sorry if this topic has come up before)

Almost two years ago, I bought two 2017-18 optic hobby boxes with the intent to keep one sealed. Being a Celtics fan, I thought it would be fun to try to hit a Tatum RC. I just have to pick the right box...

And I did! Umm, but this one looks pretty shiny, maybe even golden in color. I flip it over to find this gem numbered to 10. Was it flawless? Not exactly, but it was at least a PSA 9 by my eyes. I was laughing all the way down stairs to show my (Celtics fan) wife.

I submitted it for grading, along with a LeBron 2016-17 optic red /99 that I bought raw through PC Sportscards. Both cards incredibly came back as 10's. That's some ROI!

As much of a Celtics fan as I am, I had to cash in eventually and use the money for other fun adventures. I moved it in April while Tatum went on a crazy scoring run. No regrets! And probably won't hit a card like that again in my lifetime, but one can hope!

I still have the Lebron, but that's sticking with me for a while. ��

Bought it here on Blowout for $3,000 - $3,500 (can't recall exactly) and the seller was nice enough, as we were internet friends, to let me pay it off over 6 months as at the time $3,000 was an insane amount of money to me for a card. Can't recall the year but I bought it but it was a while ago.

It's long gone, can't even recall what I got for it in trade, but hopefully whatever I got has also gone up

Buddy owns a shop - I was there when a collection walked in. A deal was done for the collection but there was an envelope of random posters / papers that was just going to be thrown away.

I took it, not knowing what was inside.

Had a very crispy 1968 Topps Posters Set in it, as well as an Incredibly rare larger Mantle card. I saw it was on the PSA registry and got it graded.

And that's how I got $1500 out of the trash.

All those autographed cards made me almost want to get back into collecting again, even though some of them are just initials scribbled, which is hardly an "autograph" in my book.

And Rifleman69 -- are you a moron? Seriously. Why do I need my "story" to go into other threads to add "legitimacy"? I think my collection speaks for itself. Writing other threads, does nothing to improve upon anything. It's not like someone is going to see this thread, and then say "Ah, yes, okay...so this guy with the vintage collection is totally legit."
I was seriously just curious into what good deals people got, because it seems nowadays, you just won't get them anymore.
The days of people trading at school, or going to a card shop (are there brick and mortar card shops anymore?)...and getting a good deal because the cardshop owner wants to dump something that hasn't sold for years....those days are long gone.

As dumb as it will sound, my best purchase was a 2019-20 Contenders case when it first came out, not the inflated prices, so around 3K.

It was the best case I've ever had, but the main highlights were Zion gold auto, Kobe insert auto, Barkley auto redemption, Luka 2nd yr auto, two cracked ice autos, four License to Dominate cards, and all of my rookie autos were numbered, minus like 3 or 4.

Sold everything minus the Kobe, which I still have! Graded it and it came back a 9 from PSA.

Best purchase I ever made - a petrol lawnmower. Tried a hand mower, not great. Tried a line trimmer, took way too long and was quite uncomfortable (despite being a small lawn). Proper mower, game changer.

Best CARD purchase I ever made - probably my Wilt RC. Most I've ever spent on a card, now worth like almost 30x.

Best memorabilia purchase - my Garnett Celtics gamer. Paid just under market value at the time (which was still quite a lot for me) to help out the guy I was kinda friends with who had to sell it, now a HOF and key piece of my collection.

There are two currently with BIN on eBay, but nobody is pulling the trigger at that price. I couldn't find any recent sold listings. Beckett seemed to love giving these cards 8.5s. Almost every one I've seen has been that.

Traded a Ben Simmons Threads RC BGS 9.5 (the kind that's just the jersey with the name on the back) + $20 for a Giannis Prizm 9.5 at my only trip ever to the National in Chicago. Sold the Giannis for $1200 and proceeded to watch that go to a $4000 card, but things have calmed down and it's back around where I sold it.
