How consistent is PSA and Beckett when it comes to sending the same cards in again? My 2016 XRC Mahomes was in a BGS 9.5 (True Gem Plus with 10 Surface) and it literally fell apart. I contacted them to get it recased and I sent it in. I just got an email saying it was finished with a new grade of Bgs 9. With a 9 centering, 9.5 edges and corners and 9 surface. I’m figuring out if I got a super strict grader and should sent it into PSA or back to BGS again? How does the surface go from flawless to a 9 and how did the centering change?

Oops, this was meant to be in the football thread since it was Mahomes.

Agree with mindcycle. You should not expect/count on consistency. With the way they are both backlogged, getting the original grader (I'm sure they have a log with the card serial number and grader name) to re-examine the card would be close to impossible. Even then, he/she may give it a different grade.

The only consistency between the two is inconsistency.
I've seen people cross BGS 9s to PSA 10s and cross PSA 8.5-9s to BGS 9.5s (via BO/YouTube/FB/Reddit/etc).
But I'm unsure how strict graders are these days compared to the past.
Good luck!

Plus, the problem with modern cards (Chrome stuff especially) is a good majority of them are mint out of the pack (9 or 10 if we're talking PSA) so graders are basically looking at a one point difference in most cases trying to find subtle differences to grade one way or the other.
And sadly when 90% of a cards POP is 9's or 10's, that 1 point difference can be hundreds or thousands of dollars difference in the card market, while also being highly dependent on human making what's essentially a judgement call. It's kind of a joke TBH..

They both consistently overcharge for poor work. PSA more than BGS.
