Hi all,

I've been interested in the throwback variations found in Topps Heritage. From what I've found they have a print run of only 25 copies per card and only a select few players have a card showing them in their team's throwback uniform each year. I've found them to be pretty tough to track down when looking for examples for sale online and in my own personal search, even fewer turn up for my favorite players. When they are for sale it seems they comand a high price regardless of the player featured? I'm curious as to why they are enjoyed by collectors and also why such a high price tag is placed on them? And last but not least, if you have any in your collection please feel free to share them here! I'm a 'Stros fan so cards of those guys are especially encouraged!

The first ones listed each year get a premium as sport card collector and talking head Keith Olbermann tries to acquire his for his collection.
Also, initially, they didn't tell you directly on the back that they were throwback variations, so many were lost to eternity in a closet from a kind who bought it at Wal-Mart in retail and didn't realize it was a couple hundred dollar card.

I have a great case in point. A long-time regular customer to our shop who is in his late 70’s had a Trout throwback from I think 2016. He brought it in thinking it was an action variation.

Variations of photos and such are a pillar of the current hobby. Super-rare cards are another pillar. And Heritage is generally a very popular set, one looked forward to by many, many collectors each year. Combine all three factors and you get some expensive, sought-after cards.

I definitley see why now. I've found one of one of my all time favorite players but the high price ($100+) just scares me away. I've moved to collecting for my PC but when going for cards that are more pricey, I always like to get ones that I'd have a decent chance of breaking even on should I ever need to sell them.

These are a pretty solid buy. They’re never going to explode, but I don’t see them dropping much either.

Very few If any Astros cards will be increasing in price over the years and 100 for a heritage throwback is on the cheaper end but will hold its value better then 99.9% of cards

Couple corrections.

- olberman stopped heritage after 2016 (1967)
- 2016 and 2022 are the only years teout does not have one since they started in 2014.

(Technically there were 4 throwbacks in 2013, so trout was not in that group either).
