Giants got 3 fairly recently with some of these same players.
That's more than enough for them.
Tampa/LA rematch would be better.

True. However, 7 years is quite a while. They've certainly had a rough few years. Dodgers have been to the playoffs 8 years straight? And they won last year. I should've left out the word silverware. I was thinking more about $$$
I'd prefer Tampa but will take the Giants over the Dodgers. Anyone but the Dodgers.

A great deal of his success in San Francisco is due to the fact that he's Farhan's analytic system puppet (although not nearly to the extent of Melvin/Beane). The huge difference is that the Giants are actually built to win in the postseason, unlike Chokeland.

I wouldn't say that at all. Farhan gave him some good pieces to work with but Kapler has excelled at finding the right guy in the right spot. Believe they led the league with pinch hit homers. He has done a great job with player switches both in the batting order and on the field. That is not something Farhan has had any part in aside from getting some of the said players

How does Bellinger turn into the worst player in MLB history almost overnight?
Scouting.
Teams have figured out the holes in his swing and have been exploiting it relentlessly.
He struck out 16.3% of the time his MVP year....26.9% of the time this year.
Had a 49.4% hard hit rate his MVP year....34.5% this year.
Teams and pitchers have figured him out.....it's that simple.

I wonder how good he is without an ump giving him 3 more inches on the strike zone. And before anyone cries that it was only six pitches, understand that if the ump is calling unhittable pitches strikes early in the game, it forces hitters to adjust and basically swing at difficult to hit pitches all game.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211009/bd6405cee67565c36164ca39df750389.jpg

Dodgers and run support for Julio Urias, yet again.
Win #21 was a big one. Julio drove in the first run himself. He had 9 for the season batting around .200, so maybe he shames the others into hitting for him.
Urias is 39-12 in his career including 7-2 in the postseason.
He's still gotta stay in the game long enough to get those decisions.

He’s also struck out in 5 out of 7 at bats this series. And before you defend that with small sample size, consider his almost 40% career strikeout rate in the playoffs, when it actually matters. He’s a glorified AAAA hitter, who plays excellent defense and has had some success against bottom of the rotation pitchers. Dodgers can keep him.

That was a classic Candlestick Park game.....:D
Only surprise was that nobody dropped a fly ball or popup.

I'd note that another bad ball/strike call had a huge impact.
In the 1st inning, the 3-0 pitch to Yaz was clearly low. However, Barrett called it a strike and Scherzer came back to strike out Yaz.
Otherwise, Giants would have had 1st and 2nd with nobody out and Posey coming up.....

Exactly, and in actuality a +1 possibly still wouldn't tell the whole story if the Giants go on to win the WS. That is why I am not a fan of WAR. Everything in baseball, especially the postseason, is a continuous chain of events.

How often do you see a reliever that throws 99 with two other pitches?
Not often, and he did his job holding them to only 1 run.

Maybe

5) Longoria
6) Ruf
7) Slater
8) Solano
9) Webb

What makes you so sure? Do you have inside information? My guess is, he would get the final say. Also, to me, this opener would only seem to work if the opposing team had no advanced knowledge of it happening.

Righties have career and season better splits vs Knebel so there's no reason for Giants to move RHB down the order which is what it'd seem like the purpose of opener to a lefty is
RHB 237 avg career 208 season, 716 ops career 567 season
LHB 187 avg career 140 season, 611 ops career 477 season
Urias HR/AB twice as frequent vs lefties, average little higher vs righties

Dodgers lost a game to the Giants this season that left SF in 1st place on a WAY worse check swing non-call. Without that, this game 5 could've been in LA with the Dodgers as the division winner. As it is, LA will still suffer from that, as Atlanta has NLCS home field despite winning 18(!) fewer regular season games than LA.
That said, I dearly wish both of these blown calls hadn't happened, and I'm sorry to Giants fans that their team went out this way.

It had Nothing to do with 2 straight blown saves by Jansen at the end of July. 1st game up 2-1 going into the 9th. The second game up 3-1 going into the 9th. Yes, it was that 1 bad call, not the 2 games of piss poor relief pitching by Kenley. A good Dodger fan always blames his tools.

It's all of the games and none of them at the same time, which is maddening to servants of order as card collectors often are. It was Buehler, as part of a dreadful 3 week span in September that likely cost him the Cy Young, who lost the most crucial single game in the NL West race, the season series decider in San Francisco.
That game, just like the one in which Kenley was robbed of a save on a badly blown check-swing call, in their way, cost LA the 163rd game playoff, and have even now made it now made them the road team in the NLCS.
All-Star acquisition, the usually reliable Trea Turner had lost, so to speak, another game to the Giants with a throwing error two days earlier. That game could also be considered the one that cost the team the division title, and the benefits that come with it, as above.
In the end, mistakes were made, but no matter what happens now, these were highly successful seasons for virtually the entire Dodger team, and Dave Roberts too, with plenty of heroics to go around. Chris Taylor has a new signature moment from the WC game. If Bellinger finishes even the NLCS strong, his regular season will be a memory. Betts is worth every penny.
All the new players stepped up and made losing Joc, Hernandez, and Verdugo sting a little less for LA fans. Dodgers will see Pederson tomorrow, and could still reunite with the other two in the WS. I also liked seeing Alex Wood go on to success with the Giants, including his effort in this series.
The Dodgers have defeated the team that was the best in baseball for all but the first few weeks of the season. I can't believe LA overcame going 1-12 (I think it was) in their first 13 extra inning games. That was very odd. Sour note for a blown call to prove so crucial in the NLDS, but hopefully the Pennants and WS will be free of that entirely.

SF won it by exactly 1 game.
SF was gifted exactly 1 game they absolutely did lose to the Dodgers except for that horrific call.
Neither the Dodgers or the Giants ever gave up through game 162 and LA fell exactly 1 game short.
There should have been a game 163 to settle the West properly.
Maybe the Giants would've won it anyway, but we'll never know.
That's all.
Might want to check your math on that.

I think I recall hearing something during the first game of the series about check swings and the umps were going with "intent" to swing as opposed to how far the batter went when checking his swing. Anyone else recall that?

The bigger issues with the umpiring are twofold:
1) How umpires are selected for the postseason
2) The lack of clear standards for check swings.
Of the top 15 umpires in terms of regular season ball/strike accuracy, only ONE was selected for the postseason.
Meanwhile, FIVE umpires in the bottom 20 were selected for the postseason.....
