I thought I remember seeing something about the Stadium Chrome replacing the Chrome Update Series. I could be wrong though.

I believe there is no release for this scheduled. Nothing showing on CC Connection + Supply Chain Issues + Push back date already on Bowman Chrome Draft + 2022 Flagship coming in about 30ish days. Yeah, don't hold your breath on this one.

I wouldn't be surprised! Heck that Topps Chrome anniversary isn't scheduled to come out until late January as it is. Who knows if some of these will be pushed back again or if they have other 2021 products that they haven't announced yet.

If we learned anything from Heritage High last year, it's that if you're contractually bound to provide retail exclusive products, you're going to make it eventually.

Chrome Update at this point is a hobby staple (at least as far as retail exclusives go) that it would be a shock if it wasn't made. I mean, if they took the time to make Gallery this late, they'll get out Chrome Update.

It seems like Chrome Update, any Bowman Draft variant products, Platinum Anniversary, Big League....that's it for 2021 products, right? Topps should be able to get back on serve in time for Series 1.

His improvement was a very small sample size. In Sep/Oct he hit .248/.331/.524 with 29k in 29 games, but even in that time period he had some really awful stretches. End of the season, he had a 12 game stretch where he hit .171/.292/.341. Now every player has rough stretches, but he needs to show some consistency. His season last year was putrid no matter how you slice it. I hope he does put it together and his prospect pedigree would imply he's not this bad, but he still has a lot to prove.

The pricing is 100% a response to flippers. Topps isn't dumb. They see 2018 Chrome Update selling for close to $500 a box, 2019 selling for $100, and they know 2020 Chrome Update was an anomaly. This product is waaaay better than last year's (Kelenic and India true rookies) and they don't want to miss out on the secondary market profit. There hasn't been a retail product for baseball this good since Bowman (and even that was meh). I don't like the price, but this makes sense given the past 1.5 years.

I'm right there with you. I love Chrome Update, but with 90% of the boxes most likely having less than $30 break value, definitely a pass at $50. Some decent rookies, but not much hold potential either. I was hoping to grab a couple Update Sapphire boxes this year, but now worry those will be $250 or $300 retail. :mad:

chrome is usually one of my 2-3 favorite products of the year, and easily my favorite baseball retail product. i think i bought like 5 blasters this year and a mega. I easily spent $1k on 2020 chrome/update chrome, this year i spent $200.

Topps price increases this year really are unbelievable. not sure how their arrangements with retailers work as far as any rtv’s, but i’m really curious if the price increase offset what had to be a pretty substantial unit decline at retail. they got way less of my money this year than they did last year.

i’d go all in on update at $30-35 for the mega and 20 for hangers, but can’t do it at 50/27.

The amount of singles available online from the 2018 and 2019 releases was pretty awesome. Between the price hike and lack of top star rookies to chase I fear this will be lightly busted at initial pricing.

Judging by the scarcity of Sapphire singles (I know it's not update, but still), I'd say it's very likely that this won't be opened at anywhere near the same rate as last years.

last year i believe hangers were 15 and cellos were 10. i was buying them like they were going out of style, both chrome and chrome update.

To cut cellos and then increase hangers from 15 to 27 is nuts. I could have handled a $5 increase on hangers, but almost doubling the price is just gouging. Panini isn’t even asking that for prizm nba/nfl hangers.

One thing to consider is 65% of the checklist is either RC or RD. That only leaves 35 vets, figuring Soto, Tatis, Vlad, Acuna, Trout, Judge...etc make up a higher than normal percentage. Even Gallo didn't get base in this set.

Figure Kelenic should be $10-$15 (or more out of the gate). Vaughn and India at $5+, Then about 5 guys in the $2-$3 range. Figure RD at about half on those guys and you're already up to $60 in base per 100 cards. Then you have all the S1 and S2 RD. You're only paying $1.25 per card. I mean I don't think you get there just on base alone, but I haven't even accounted for refractors or #'d parallels or inserts or autos or SP. This seems like a solid buy at that price.

Another consideration...normally TCU releases in to the teeth of the offseason. We are on the upswing now. The $50 price this year isn't as bad as people make it out to be, because it's for 10 packs.
Last year's $25 price tag was for a 7-pack box, which would work out to $35.70/10 packs.
It was probably planned as a $40 MSRP, but everything has gone up 25% this year ($20 blasters are now $25), so $50 is comparable.
It's not just trading cards, inflation is everywhere.

I do think the inflation aspect is being overlooked and will be curious to see how it affects the card market overall. For example, the manufacturer is going to charge more for the product, but will that translate to singles if people have less disposable income?

Even though i hate the price, i bought 3 megas this morning. With red card discount they are $47.50, then I happened to have $46 of circle rewards, so got the 3 for about $98.

Update was pretty good to me last year, I’d buy several hundred dollars of hangers (assuming we see hangers) if they were $15-20, not sure about $27.

I think the latest CPI print showed that real hourly wages decreased about 2.3% year over year and its the 9th straight month of decreases.

I know from opening a boatload of 18's that most blasters would have either an auto of #'d parallel. Im assuming the added colors in 2019 kept that pretty similar in the face of a PR boost. Not sure about 2020 as it was a very barren checklist for true RCs.
Also not sure if the cello packs have worse odds than blasters for the autos/#'d cards. Lotsa math, lotsa factors to consider when pack odds are known. Lotta strands in the duder's head on this one.

I think it is more likely that low wage workers and/or general labor are the ones with the bargaining power now, which is why you see retail jobs that went from maybe $10/hr to $18-20 and above.

Professional jobs, not so much. I work in education and nothing has changed. Private schools did not raise tuition enough to pay higher salaries to their employees. Public schools did not increase teacher pay any more than the standard scale (unless certain districts lucked out and 2021 was a bargaining year for the union). I'm sure many other professions fall under similar circumstances.

Dept. of Labor stated that in 2021, the average wage earner saw a 2.4% decrease of spending power, despite higher wages. This was obviously due to inflation (40 year high). Lower wage earners (IE: those near minimum wage) saw the largest increase in pay, while the middle class saw the lowest increase.

So as stated above, the lower end retail/fast food workers saw the biggest jump in pay, while the rest of us got little to nothing.

I would bet my numbers for 2021 was more than a decrease of 2.4% spending power. So I can see where Chrome Update at $50 per box will dissuade a lot of people being able to buy it at that price. I passed on Bowman Mega's and will pass on Chrome Update. The $100 of spending power I had at the beginning of 2021 is less now, and the price per pack has gone up. Easy pass.

Nothing new there. Best, Sterling, Finest etc. are always much lower print runs. Chrome is 2x the print run, but 10x the demand.

It was also just a bit of mental math on my part as to how many ebay auctions there should be for these singles and whether or not I want to buy boxes etc. I think I'm more inclined to just buy some singles.

I think it will be a lot sooner than that, at least where I’m at.

Assuming fred meyer will have these if you’re in the PNW. Mildly surprised they didn’t have them this week as they get shipment from excell at the same time as target on most products. Also imagine barnes and noble will have them, that might take a week or two. Imagine these will end up in target brick and mortar in a month or so.
