I'm Giving Away A Card Every Week in 2022

Title says it all! In 2022 I am going to be giving a card away every week (well when I go to see my nieces I'll give away 2 cards because I'm usually there longer than a week)! These can either be signed cards I got in person/ttm, an autographed card, a jersey card, a short print, or a numbered card. These aren't high dollar cards but it is just a fun way to give to the card community.

This will start on January 1 2022 at 12:01 am Central Time! Each Week Starts at 12:01 am Central Time on Sunday and end at 11:59 pm Central Time on Saturday

There really aren't any rules other than US Addresses Only and there are new rules to enter this week with your post. For your chance to win this week, tell me what your hobby goals are for the year of 2023!

Oh and one entry per person per week please! You can win multiple times per year if you are lucky. Winners have 72 hours to contact me or I will have to redraw.

My favorite player is Ken Griffey Jr. The reason he is my favorite player is that he was the first player that I ended up getting a baseball card of at the Rosemont Convention center with my uncle as I heard beforehand that you cant go wrong with collecting him as a player and I also found out after watching him play that he has such a sweet swing and is amazing and fun to watch both on offense and defense. I always have really enjoyed how he plays the game and how positive of a personality he seems to display both on and off the field. He to me is what makes the game of baseball fun to watch and really sets a great example for others to follow on how the game should be played.

my favorite player was Jimmy Piersall. Read Fear Strikes Out when I was in grade school and was hooked.

So my story is that I’ve always struggled finding a PC I could be passionate about and a few years ago it occurred to me my Dad was a massive Koufax fan way back in the day. Now, he doesn’t collect cards or anything but I kinda liked the idea of a PC of Koufax.

So I started collecting Koufax and have grabbed all his playing year topps issued cards minus 3 leader cards to date.

The real cool thing was I never told or showed any of it for a few years to my dad. back in May he was in town and I busted all of them out and it was really a thrill to see him look through everything.

That being said, the 1956 card is hands down my favorite of Koufax and I could tell my dad really liked that one as well.

This is a cool thread and if I happen to win just forward it on to another worthy collector in my stead :)

My favorite player growing up was Steve Garvey, because he played first base, which was my favorite position. He also was an awesome player. I have his 71 Topps rc and the high number 1972 card

My favorite player is Derek Jeter. I started collecting him early and being a Yankee fan I was glad that he was always a Yankee. He played the game hard and the right way. I even named my son Derek after him. So many great memories and was truly sad to see him retire. I was able to see him play his last game against the angels when he did his farewell tour, and even hit a home run that game, it was surreal.

Though not baseball, 1990 Skybox BK nailed it in my youth. It got rid of the background noise with some sweet 90's paint. It focused on the player and the individual play happening.

I became interested in cards in 1988 when my aunt bought me and my brother the June baseball beckett with Matt Nokes on the cover. We discovered we had a 1984 Fleer Don Mattingly rookie card that was worth $33! That was a good find for an 8 year old. I was hooked and have collected ever since.

My sister introduced me to cards in the early 90s when the Pirates were one of the best teams. For some reason the small Western PA town that I grew up in had an LCS. My sister would take me there every few weeks and let me pick out a card. As a young kid, I thought that was the coolest thing.

I got interested in collecting baseball cards back in 1993 when my uncle and I went to the Rosemont Convention Center and I bought my first Ken Griffey Jr card which was a 1993 Fleer Ultra base card. I heard beforehand of how good and popular Ken Griffey Jr was as a player from what my uncle told me so I was convinced that I needed to get one of his cards. From that day forward I got hooked on collecting his cards and am so glad I have since that day on.

My dad got me started collecting when I was probably about 6-7. At the time I wasn't super interested, but had fun opening packs with him. I remember back then just hitting a jersey card was super freaking exciting, wish it was still that way.

I would buy a few packs every now and again from like 2010-2016 just for the fun of it. However, these days, now that I'm older it's really become my hobby. Love opening packs and searching for PC cards on eBay.

My brother is probably the one that got me into collecting. He used to have a binder that he used to take to school to trade with his friends. I remember my neighbor brought over my first binder of basketball cards that her kid didn’t want anymore. It was full of early 90s cards and had quite a few future hall of famers but her kid took out all the Michael Jordan’s except 1 that I still have to this day.

My favorite stadium that I visited was Target Field in Minneapolis MN. I really liked the layout of the stadium as it was really easy to get any food or beer from the vendors as they were in short walking distance around the whole stadium. The staff there was very helpful in any questions that we had and the seating was really good wherever you sat in the stadium. After visiting there I would definitely go back there again.

Awesome! I went to Lawrence Dumont a few times. Had some character the old scoreboard was neat but the the seats were not very comfy and the foundation was crumbling. Went to plenty of games at Eck Stadium as I was a photographer for the Wichita State newspaper and I was the main baseball photographer

I agree! While not in a very built up area with nothing around it I will still take the stadium in the middle of nowhere because it's the parking that makes it. Downtown stadium=no parking and that means no tailgating, which is what Kansas City stadiums atmosphere is all about. I've also been to San Diego. It is probably my favorite that I visited

One of my favorite stadiums to visit was Tucson Electric Park (think it has a new name now) in Tucson. The Diamondbacks AAA team played there and I went to a ton of games in middle school/high school. Tickets were cheap and I was able to sit in the front row down the 1st base line in the outfield. Lots of fun with friends there growing up.

(then known as Bank One Ballpark) and at first it was just something special I did with my Dad every once in awhile, but I soon fell in love with the game. My favorite stadium I’ve been to is Chase Field. My first game I attended with my Dad when I was 6. (then known as Bank One Ballpark) and at first it was just something special I did with my Dad every once in awhile, but I soon fell in love with the game. Even after visiting 10+ other stadiums Chase field will always hold a special place in my heart.

I'm late with this but I'm still going to list my favorites. The old Metrodome is 4th Target Field followed by Kaufman and they are great or were great places to watch a game but my favorite is Wrigley Field. Unreal experience!!

I’ll go with 1993 NLCS Game 1, Phillies vs. Braves. I was 14 and my dad surprised my brother and I with tickets to the game. He was only able to get two tickets so he dropped us off at the Vet. Schilling struck out the first 5 hitters and I don’t think I’ve ever felt a place more electric. Then we win the game in extras.

I also went to Game 6 when we cliched the pennant and was there for the first part of the 2008 Game 5 rain game. But the 1993 team was special.

My most memorable game was also the 2014 WC game. Being a Royals fan my whole life, I obviously endured many brutal losing seasons. When they actually made the playoffs, I knew we had to go see them even though we lived 5 1/2 hours away, because it might be another 30 years before they made the playoffs again. I remember taking a picture of the scoreboard after we took the lead in the 3rd inning just in case that the best it ever got for us. That game was a roller coaster of emotions and to experience it live with a stadium full of fans starving for something to celebrate is indescribable. We ended up coming back for one game for each series that year and made some great memories racing back and forth to catch the games. It was worth every penny and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

This is a completely true story, I'll keep it brief. About 10 years ago I was cleaning my parents attic and found what turned out to be a game used Mickey Mantle bat. Ended up selling it. If I won the lotto my first selfish purchase would be to put MM's bat back in my collection.

Apologize in advance for the long answer. My oldest son (8) really, really loves baseball and is constantly playing in the backyard. He also has a very active imagination and has had an imaginary team since he was 3. They play in the MLB along with several other made up teams and have evolved over time like any team would through roster changes, retirements, new stadiums, and many relocations. I don't know why he originally put them in Indiana (he's only stepped foot there once in his life) or where most of the names came from. He has drawn many pictures of players and stadiums, made baseball cards, written books about Chauncelor history, and pretty much anything else he can think of. The Chauncelors are so real in our family that for his 4th birthday his aunt made him a Christian Momoffoson player t-shirt which has been passed down to his brothers. Some of my favorite no longer active players include Poon Ganara (C), Wily Blu (OF), Mike Railer (P), and my all-time personal favorite Murder Morales (SS). Sometimes current events have crept into our backyard games like when Wily Blu passed away from Covid the same week Hank Aaron died (RIP) or when another teams fan favorite left in free agency the week Freddie Freeman became a Dodger. Week 17 April 24-May 1 2015 Bowman Draft Cole Tucker Signed Card

As a big Terrance Gore fan, I would go with Ussain Bolt. Klyer Murray is probably the easy choice, but I'm taking the sure thing speed. I freely admit I'm not up on my track athletes so there might be a better fit than Bolt over a shorter distance than the 100m. Super athletes like LeBron James couldn't hit an MLB pitch to save their life and aside from maybe Murray and a couple other dual sport college guys I just don't think anyone could cut it in the bigs. BUT... speed is speed and having watched Gore who is very, very fast decide many games late both with steals and getting so deep in pitchers heads that they psyche themselves out and leave pitches over the middle of the plate combined with the havoc he creates for fielders leading to errors and boneheaded decision making, I'd love to see the worlds fastest man turn a 9th inning leadoff walk into a triple before anyone can blink. Obviously Bolt would never take the paycut and the lack of prestige but it would be a sight to behold. If you really wanted to stretch it you could try and teach him to bunt from the left side or get cute and make him a softball type slap hitter. Also maybe see if he could cover centerfield defensively. He's still 6'5 to boot so that would be a thing of beauty assuming (and it's a big assumption) that he could actually catch a baseball cleanly. Maybe a pinch runner/defensive replacement isn't the sexiest choice here but I'll take the sure thing contribution.

From the NHL, Connor McDavid. My reasoning is, as a very skilled hockey player, he would have excellent hand eye coordination. He could probably hit a fast ball, if he can hit a curve, he should do quite well. As far as position, either DH or 1B
