Hi all,
Forgive the ignorance here as I am mostly a basketball card collector. I recently had the idea of setting aside a card or two of my favorite players in every sport growing up. I'm doing this mostly to help tell my kid about what watching sports was like for me when I was his age (and as a way to help introduce him to the hobby when he is old enough). For football, I grew up really cheering for Peyton Manning (on Colts) and Kurt Warner (on Rams).
I am trying to do this on a relatively tight budget (thinking around $5 a card on COMC or Sportlots or something like that). I wanted to reach out to see if any die-hard collectors might have thoughts on awesome-looking cards/images on cards/sets to look for with these guys. I know very little about football collecting so was planning to default to brands like Topps Chrome, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to see if someone had a suggestion for a really good-looking base card or cheap insert.
