I do not see it happening. Possibly too many players leaving in free agency & the same coaches (minus Moore and Quinn) making or allowing the same mistakes. 9-8 or 8-9.

I think Eagles and Washington have a better shot next season. The Eagles overachieved and have 3 first round picks and Washington will get healthy.

Yeah but it’s still Jalen Hurts and Taylor Heinicke leading those teams at QB. A lot can change until the start of next season but if those two are leading the teams Dallas should be heavy favorite to win the division again.

I am hoping they can repeat but not confident. It seems like both the Eagles and Washington can overcome poor QB play while the Cowboys bring Prescott down.
New thread! Looking forward to pick 24.
We have the best shot at the East crown. Most of our playmakers are under contract, and are young. We’ll have to figure Secondary and LB out, maybe in the draft. Finding a WR3 isn’t the hardest task. I think Dak’s biggest issue this season was handling poor OL play poorly.
I’m indifferent about Kellen Moore returning, but would love to see Dan Quinn stay. It sounds like McCarthy is here for another year, I don’t hate it.
I just hope this tough loss ignites something within the players who’ll be here for 2022.

2,264 yards

1,016 yards
709 yards
620 yards
498 yards
Aikman, Troy
Carter, Quincy

As long as they have Dak they will not amount to a hill of beans. Dak do the same play next year that you ended the season on this year. I will pay to see that. Then blame the refs again. When your play is mediocre and you always lose you have to find someone else to blame but yourself.

Even though I think McCarthy staying at the most another year ,Happy to hear today on the radio Jerry not being “committal” to endorse McCarthy and lot to think about on all coaches on the staff .. Him being so stubborn with Jason after all those wasted years at least it’s sounding he feels somewhat of an urgency to address a possible change with mike.

If Jerry can get someone better, he should. The Niners had Chip Kelly then moved on to Kyle. Giving guys time to fumble around without vision, or a high ceiling, is a mistake. Even with the offseason departures, a better coached Dallas team next year could make some noise.

I just saw this. Incredible. I did not expect that AT ALL. I figured he'd be first out the door to HC again, somewhere. Was, easily, one of the most memorable coaching successes I've seen in some time. Definitely turned the defense around and, after another year and offseason of working with this group, hopefully only improvement to come.

Or, picks up a phone and hits up Troy Aikman or any of the other Dallas HOFers that ripped their "scheme" apart the day after that complete crapshow of offensive failure. Did he even get interview(s) for HC openings? After being handed the keys to run an offense with skill players like that, and getting wrecked in the wild card round, can't imagine that looks super great to any teams.
Quinn is returning
This is fantastic. I’m excited to see the impact of another Quinn year on the growth of our young guys. Parsons, Diggs, Cox, Joseph, Wright, Osa, Gallimore, Goldstein. Draft another stud LB or edge. Exciting times on defense.

Rumors from the past few days have the Cowboys releasing Lawrence & Cooper for salary cap purposes. Seems like a poor decision considering the amount of players who will leave in free agency this year.

Cutting Cooper gives us a chance to sign Gregory, and have some money to maybe convince MG to take a sweetheart deal coming off his injury. I think Lamb is ready to take the reigns.
D-Law would be missed, but if we draft a LB at 24, that could free up Parsons to pass rush more. But then again, I’d like OL with our top pick..

He’s an odd bird:
One is the world's most famous paper company boss and the other is the world's most famous football team boss—and yet that fame often comes more so from their failures and goofs than their successes. (Though we should not forget that both have achieved some remarkable successes in their careers.)
Let's look at some similarities...
Both are famous for their awkwardly sexual comments:

Both began their careers with a loud buddy who was oddly fixated on sexual performance:

Both became rap icons:

Both have an affinity for waitresses:

Both had a young, sexy, somewhat goofy employee that they desperately wanted to be friends with:

https://i.imgur.com/jO3gxCR.jpg?1
Both have been so willing to trust people that they have brought criminals into the workplace:

https://i.imgur.com/25xqs62.png?1
Both have been on the cutting edge of accepting employees of all orientations:

Both ended up giving their socially awkward assistants too much power:

Both have spent their lives trying to recapture the magic of their early successes:

And yet for all of their flaws, both have genuinely cared about their employees like they were family:

I agree on the OL but they could go with any position and improve the team.

Those are fair points. No matter who is on the team next year, I’d like to see more play calls with Lamb involved.
I think OL is what we’ll see. Needs to be better, and with our cap that is most likely being addressed in the draft. I could see us trading up to grab Linderbaum if they feel like they have to. Still, with another year with Quinn, I’m totally for seeing us go defense early like starfox said, having more young minds undergo his coaching.

I cannot believe they tagged Schultz, will probably give him a deal for 5 years at 11M a year knowing the idiot Joneses. This team is so mismanaged it is getting comical. Now as a fan you just have to laugh through the tears.
Cowboys in two years going to have to let Ceedee and Parsons walk because Dak, Zeke, Schultz will be making up 50% of their cap .. morons, why do they LOSE EVERY deal and think they are like master negotiators? The Cowboys organizations WAY overvalue their own players and have been doing it for years. Stop paying average players and expecting to not be an average team ITS NOT THAT DIFFICULT .. sheesh. SMDH

5 year deal for Gallup. Before people freak out at the number remember that all NFL contracts are fake. I am sure the way this is structured is very back loaded like Coopers deal, where it's not a big hit in the first few years and if the cowboys want to get out of it they easily will.
Also with the cap taking big jumps this could end up being a very cheap and friendly contract for them.

Denver’s contract doesn’t have that language.

Sounds like we’re getting 2 additional fifth rounders via comp picks. Puts us at 4 fifth rounders and 9 total picks in the first 200. I like volume, I like having a ton of darts to throw at the board. Excited to see if we can find any late-mid round gems this spring.

Always a surprise or two. But yeah the Rams, 49ers, Cardinals, Cowboys, Packers, Vikings. Saints and Bucs seem like the front runners at the moment. Someone will break out though. Seems like there will be some bad teams this year in the NFC.

Man do you guys listen to Cowboys radio shows? Talkin Cowboys was so terrible yesterday. They are talking about Amari in the same breathe as Hill and Adams. I just... I just can't go look at the stats, just pull up 2021 receiving leaders.. Amari isn't even on the list.. in fact Ceedee and Schultz are at the bottom of the list that Amari is not even on.
What am I missing here, Amari is the most overrated WR in the league IMO. That is why no one gave them anything for him.. because he is just not good. Why do the Cowboys have such delusions and overrate their guys so much?

Just based on WR salaries this off season and the number of trades the Cowboys were fleeced by the Browns. On paper the front office has not done a good job with the roster.
I am starting to question how the Jones family views the team as they are choosing to spend very little in free agency, moving on from quality players, and raising ticket prices. Either there are financial issues or it's more about maximizing profit than ever before by reducing salaries.

I think they will trade up, I wish they will trade down. If they don't move I hope Zion if he is there, then Pickens would be my lean at WR. I think they will take Greene, but I like the second day guards, someone like Ryan from UCLA I would like. Going to be a fun first round any way it goes.

Seems like the Cowboys had a solid draft where they didn't reach for a position. Be it luck or strategy, the Cowboys did a great job landing the DE and WR. Williams was not going to make it to the 3rd.

Does it ever get better for Tyron Smith and the Cowboys? The man was destined for Canton and just can't shake the injuries. They had him pulling in practice and do full contact blocking on their starters? Torn hamstring and some knee damage to go along with it that will require surgery.

Jerry refusing to get outside line help then saying skill position players have to step up is so maddening. If Dak has no time to throw and Zeke has no holes to run through then how can anyone step up?
And we are throwing Tyler Smith, who has only worked at guard, to the wolves so they will ruin him too. Aaaarrrggghhh

Dak (2025), Zeke and Gallop are all signed through the 2026 season. There are out clauses though.
Zeke - out at the end of this year to cancel 60 mill or so left on contract for a 11 million cap hit next year. - This seems very likely regardless how well he plays.
Gallup - Out after next year (14 million) to cancel 27 million of last two years for a cap hit of 6. Smaller money values. I would guess they would exercise this as well unless he lights it up. You could easily draft in two years and save the 21 million and get similar production on a rookie contract.
Dak - He is staying next year. You cut him next year, his cap hit is 89 million. He has an out after next year for a cap hit of 40 million instead of 52 million normally. Either is a lot to swallow. His contract will need to be restructured after this year if they are keeping him or find a suitor in a trade. Do they want 40 million dead cap if they cut him or ride him out for these remaining two years?

Prescott was forcing throws and the receivers struggled. The front office did little for the offense and that is what the unit did yesterday on the field.

Then they kept trying to call weird plays with Pollard instead using him the same way they use Elliott. He dud fine last season just running normal plays, why change things up?

The defense should be pretty good but they need to be better against the run and more players need to get to the QB. Micah can't do it alone.lol
Each week we will continue to see the Jones family blame someone else then hype up the team. Very hard to support the organization when the owner/gm does not see his own missteps. I feel bad for the players on the team and many of the coaches (especially on defense).

So who would you say is the 4th-best QB in Cowboys history?
Got to say, after Week 1, I was almost checked out on the season in terms of emotional investment, but after the last few games of grinding out victories with solid-to-great defense and timely play from the offense, the Cowboys have a legitimately special aspect of their team (their Defense is nasty) and could make some noise come playoff time.
Nice work by Trevon Diggs to shut Terry McLaurin down today. Wentz is yet another QB held under 200 yards passing for the season (3 total, and Brady barely eclipsed 200 with 212) and this is the 4th straight game that Dallas has only allowed one offensive TD.
Now to wrangle the Rams. :)!

I went from feeling like our season is over after the 1st game to now having some hope for the season.
I am not calling Cooper Rush the next Tom Brady or even calling this a Bledsoe/Brady situation but to me you stick with the hot hand. Rush is winning games and looks more in sync with his receivers then Dak did in game 1. When Dak comes back is he going to have that same connection on the field with them after missing games? I am not so sure.

Meh, myths and rumors of the Razorbacks beating Alabama are epics and ballads from the times of skalds. ;) I'll just resign myself to that game being a perpetual loss on the schedule until they do actually defeat the Nicktator.
I see no controversy at all, Dak Prescott isn't a perfect QB but he has more tools than Rush does and it shows during the game (especially on deeper throws). Rush got bailed out on two INT's yesterday that were not the best of throws, but I am never going to complain about victories. It's Dak's job until he shows he can't hack it any longer (and presents Dallas with a real problem after 2023). Rush has done yeoman's work in keeping Dallas afloat, I am sure some team will pony up big bucks to make him their backup if he decides to leave Dallas.
I am extremely excited about the potential that Tyler Smith is showing. His growth will be fun to watch as the season wears on. I am also beyond stoked for the pass rush as the calendar flips. The amount of pressure they are generating is wild.

I thought they should've have gone back to a healthy Romo in 2016 (would have beaten the Packers in the playoffs) and I think they need to go back to a healthy Prescott.
If Prescott isn't 100%, then go with Rush.
I chalk the win streak up to the defense more than Rush. I think Rush has been FANTASTIC as a backup, not making mistakes. But I don't think he gives us the offense that we need to beat the Eagles.

One thing I will say about Cooper is he's developed an amazing rapport with Ceedee. They've had great synergy since the first snap.
What an amazing d-line. They'll always give this team an opportunity to win, so long as the offense doesn't turn it over. I had questions about the linebacking corp coming into the year, but they've been solid. Hoping VE's spine holds up for the long haul. Diggs finally learning not to gamble for the pick 6 every play, and it's wonderful.
The Cowboys are getting buku pressure in each game, I would be curious to see the totals after the Rams tape is broken down.

Watt - Unstoppable
If I didn’t word it so clumsily it would have made better sense.
But yes, I’m not sure there is a defensive player this year that has been anywhere near as impactful as Micah.

Need to win by about 30 tonight. The amount of talent completely wasted, year after year, by Dallas is mind numbingly stupid. No one is ever held accountable for drive killing offensive penalties.
I was about to just go off on a rant. The backspace key is my friend. I do think they win but, as it is with this organization, they'll just take it for granted and probably struggle next week - if they get there.
People held accountable by McCarthy: Dallas loses or wins by Tampa making more mistakes/turnovers.
People held accountable by Micah Parsons or any defensive player for that matter: Dallas easy win.

Wasted a great defensive performance there. If there was a game for myself personally that made me feel the whole looney toons Jerry Jones Sold His Soul tin hat theory this was it.
Maher giving us no confidence early, Pollard getting injured, Diggs dropping the gimme INT, Kittle circus catches, those 2 Dak INTs. It all doesn’t sound too bad until you see how well we played. Just needed a thing or two to go our way. We lost. Haters will hate.
We pick 27 (26) overall. I think we need (in no order) a weapon to help Lamb as Gallup just wasn’t it, a solid secondary dude, and a smart LB depending on what LVE does. Trench picks never hurt either.

I get it. The username is ironic.
Because all I'm seeing is a scavenger.
:coffee:Imagine having your rival Cowboys living so rent free in your head you post on the Cowboys thread on an internet message board.

Not optimistic about Dak becoming a big game QB at this point.
He is still making rookie throws in his 7th season.

With that said, it seems like they're determined to make him a pocket passer and I think he's much better rolling out.

Blue is Dak.
Red is Jerry Jones.
I swear we hear this EVERY year from this team.
Dak - I need to improve and play better and I promise I will.
Jerry - Dak is our QB and I have confidence he will lead us to the promise land.
Same every year.
"I'm disappointed in the way that I've played. Those guys in that locker room gave it all. Both sides of the ball. And put me in a position to go win the game. And I wasn't able to do that," he said. "And, yeah, I mean, I put it on my shoulders. When you play this position, when you play for this organization, you've got to accept that. That's the reality of it. And as I said it will make me better.
"It sucks, as I said, that I don't get another shot at it for a long time, but I know that when I wake up tomorrow it will be the first thing on my mind and it will as I carry it through in my training throughout this offseason, as we get to the start of next season. It's about finding a way to get better, mastering everything that we can to make sure that we get over this hump, whatever it is, and give ourselves a chance of winning it all."
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Prescott is the top reason for hope that the Cowboys' championship drought will end.
"I thought we would win it because I've got such confidence in Dak," Jones said. "I'll line up out there five times with that (similar) situation, and if we've got him at quarterback, I'll take my chances. So I'm just saying give me that setup a year in advance, a month in advance and give me him as the quarterback and I feel very strongly that we'll win."
"Two throws that I can't have," Prescott said. "You can't have in the playoffs. You can't have them when you're trying to beat a team like that. Can't have them on the road. Yeah, no excuses for that. Those are two that are 100% on me."
Before this season, Prescott never had more than 13 interceptions in a season (2017). The issue was something he never solved in 2022.
"Very frustrating," he said. "Something I've got to get an offseason, take a look at all of them. As I said before, they all have their own story. The two tonight? Unacceptable. Can't put the ball in jeopardy like that. Whether they're tipped up in tight throws or whether I'm late on a stop route, just can't happen. The number that added to is ridiculous. I can promise that the number will never be this again.
"I promise that."

This is just so perfect. Dak is saying I literally am not the guy. Everyone else did their job and played good enough to win that game, and I didn't.
Then you have Jerry saying Dak is the guy and with him we can win.
I have said it since the early Romo days, until Jerry is on the other side of the ground this team will not win. I would just say as long as he is the GM they won't but we know he won't step down from that until he is pushing up daisies.
The defense played great last night. Ceedee played amazing
Aside from the mistakes to get them there:
1. Dak getting the ball with 3:31 left and almost throwing a pick
2. Missing a wide open streaking Gallup because he threw it to the outside instead of at the post
3. Taking a sack because he didn't pull the trigger on an open Shultz therefore keeping the clock running so they can't punt and get it back with more time, because if you run your punt team out with a running clock the defense gets time to sub as well.
That sequence should be enough to say move on from this guy who takes up 1/2 of your cap and is the only thing holding this team back.
Defense is good young talent, O-line is getting older but they are still playing at a high level. Ceedee is a #1 and the TE room is good enough to be at that level, the only negative is DAKOTA PRESCOTT and everyone except the owner of the terrible franchise knows it.

Dak's contract takes up about 20% of the cap. That % is in line with the QB market. In addition the team will have a projected 97 million in cap space available in 23-24 even without adjusting for the cap growing dramatically this off season from new TV deals.
Barring a huge trade (with a massive dead money hit) Dak isn't going anywhere until 2025, at the earliest. You'd be better off yelling at clouds.

I must have hit a nerve.
Dak is very unlikely to go anywhere. Cowboy fans will either have to deal with it or find a new team to cheer for until he's gone.

Or they can cheer for the rest of the guys and come to a message board and complain about how he holds the rest of the team back and they will never win until they get rid of him and Jerry.
Yes you did hit a nerve, because I care. I am glad I actually give a damn about these games and the cowboys. The highs are high and the lows suck, much better than people like you who don't care about anything. Why even come to a message board if you don't give a #@#@#@#@ about anything. You REALIST are the worst type of people and "fans" for that matter. I feel bad for you must suck to live such a boring life.

I'm bummed Pollard got hurt, but I expect he'll be franchised and back next year.
The defense is going to get thinned out pretty heavily this off-season. Quinn is likely leaving for a HC position. LVE, Anthony Brown, and Jordan Lewis are all expiring and most of the second line players at those positions are gone too. I'd hate to lose Donovan Wilson, but he made himself money this year.

I never said I didn't care. You said that. I ride the rollercoaster just like everyone else. I cheer the wins and lament the losses as hard as anyone.
At the same time I understand that I have no control over what Jerry and company do and I long ago quit worrying about it for my own well-being. I can also look at Dak's contract situation and make a pretty educated guess about his future here.

I said Dan isn't going anywhere. They are going to make it seem like no he chose to stay when the truth is no one wants him as a HC. He is a great DC and an absolutely terrible HC. He will never be a HC again.

The loss to the 49'ers was disappointing but the season was a pleasant surprise considering the way it started against the Bucs.
