Hello, this just came in the mail today and it has air bubbles in the case since it’s a chrome card. I read online if I put it in a shoe case with silica packets, after a week that air pockets would go away. Would that work?

Probably not. It may be a variation of Newman's or Newton's Rings. Do a google search for PSA Newman's Rings.

Microwave for 7 minutes. It will bake the moisture out of it.

PS. Just in case the sarcasm meter is broken, do not do that. I do not know of any ways that work to fix that issue.

This is precisely it -- Newton's Rings. These are not air bubbles, nor something to be concerned about. It's just a visual nuissance.

Here is the aforementioned blog entry on this topic:

I had a slab with that issue, sent it back to psa for reholdering and just got it back, no improvement just rings in different places now. Not even sure why they took it back if they didn’t think they had some way to make it better. Mine was an oversized item, maybe they have something that works for standard size cards.

So you don’t think the silica packets wouldn’t help with newtons rings?

In a sealed slab, this a "unsolvable" problem.

You also see it happen in screw-down card holders, like multi-card Ultra-Pro holders. But those are easy to deal with since you can simply unscrew the holder and let the layer of trapped air disappate.

I think silica is for moisture issues, right? This is an optics issue apparently and I wouldn't guess silica would have any benefit.

None of the other retrofractors have this issue. Do you think a recase would help solve this issue? Just very annoying to me lol. It says on the above psa link to message them if you want them to fix it.

@cardguy14- for what it’s worth, I have this exact same card, but it does not exhibit Newton’s Rings.

Well, they are taking cards back and reslabbing them at no cost to you if you send a pic and show the issue. But I personally didn't see an improved result after a reslab, you might though.

This was the good laugh I needed today. Well done.
