Man this is a tough one to take. What an awesome way to go out though. He went out at the top of his game...just seemed to get better as the years went on. We never had to witness a drop off in play. Superbowl on a brand new team at 43 and leading the league in every major passing category at 44. What he did will never be replicated and football won't be the same.

Historic. Congrats to Tom and the NFL. Glad I was able to watch him in my lifetime and watch Nick Foles win a Super Bowl against him.
As an Eagles fan, one way I put Brady's career into perspective are the playoff games against him. The 2005 Super Bowl against McNabb where Brady won his *third* ring, then the 2018 SB against Foles, all the way to the Bucs Eagles game a couple weeks ago. Incredible career.

I was never a huge fan, definitely more of a Peyton guy but through the years Brady has just worn on me and continued to lead/perform to the point that you just have to respect the guy. 10 Super Bowls, 7 Titles doubt we will ever see this type of longevity/success again in a sport that is built for short term success and parity. More Super Bowl titles than any NFL Franchise.
As Khal said, he's probably the GOAT of the GOATs

Peyton Manning was the better player IMO, but the 7 championships will be remembered more. Very similar to Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell's 11 rings. Without Bill B and Brady's great defenses he played with, the legend of Tom Brady wouldn't be what it is today.
I think Eli Manning should introduce Brady at the HOF ceremony.

in his last season in the NFL...Brady beat Dallas, swept the entire AFC East (Miami, Buffalo, NY Jets, and the Patriots), beat his old team and head coach on the road, on Sunday night primetime, beat the Falcons, KO'd Philly from the playoffs (revenge!), and brought back the Bucs from 27-3 down to tie the game.
what a ride. reminds me of Montana's final season in the NFL when he beat the 49ers (his old team), got the best of Elway and the Broncos in one of the best MNF games ever, and both last players game was in the state of Florida.
TheFrenzy
01-29-2022, 03:24 PM
The most fascinating parallel to Brady in my mind is Frank Reich. The difference being that the Bills went back to starter Jim Kelly late in their 1993 postseason run while the Patriots kept the reins in Brady's hands after Bledsoe had recovered in the 2001 playoff run.
Reich is still the only quarterback in league history with multiple playoff starts and an undefeated record. He also owned the distinction at one point of having led both the largest comeback in college football history and NFL postseason history.
I am by no means saying Reich would have won seven rings—gosh no—but I'll always wonder if he could have been the "Brady before Brady."

@MikeSilver
@BallySports: Tom Brady contacted @Buccaneers
GM Jason Licht and told him he has not yet made a final decision on retirement, disputing the ESPN report. Licht is respecting Brady's process and waiting for a definitive answer, whenever it comes, from the QB.
@tomecurran
At the moment, Tom Brady is out of the country and plans to be abroad next week as well. While he may intend to retire, it seems like a final, final, FINAL decision hasn't been rendered or articulated.
So this isn't exactly "at ease" on the Brady front but "stand down for now."

This really sucks. I was hoping for one more year. I've seen him at Foxboro and grown old with him. So many memories with family and friends centered around him on Sundays.
I truly feel many of his post season records will never be touched. He transcended football and will be talked about for many years.
Goodbye GOAT. Enjoy a long and healthy retirement.
Of all the games I attended, the AFC Championship in 2017 against Pittsburgh was my favorite. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220129/4d5d15a379af9a4b03047d2cee2ce5b5.jpg

Likely true yes. But they are responding to the ESPN announcement. Tom Brady himself has since called Licht and said he hasn't made up his mind yet.
It's what is wrong with today's media - everyone tries to be first to the story at the cost of being accurate. Then the whole world takes it as truth immediately.

Honestly, this is good for football with Tom and Ben retiring.
It’s time for the next generation of QBs to step into those roles, and looks like the AFC is going to be stacked with Mahomes, Allen, Herbert and Burrow. NFC still has some old vets like Rodgers and Wilson but the turnover is great for football in my mind.

1. Brady was retiring soon regardless so whether I like him of not doesnt matter
2. You assume the WHOLE country is in mourning over Brady, but the real fact is most people could care less. I think it’s great you have Cincy and the Rams in the mix to BRING back fans from yesteryear
3. BRADY isn’t the face of football and the NFL has already turned that page
4. Retiring is really part of the process turning a great player into a legend and icon, this is part of the process and so is getting into the HOF. Brady’s legend will GROW even more AFTER retirement
5. No one wants to see a 45 year old blow out a knee or something bad, ending it on this note is great for football

I hope he isn't, but I'm pretty sure he is done because he has all the passing records that are nearly impassable. If Drew Brees made a comeback, Brady may come back because Brees is the only QB that has a chance to top Brady in passing yards. Unless NFL makes an exception, Brady will go in HOF the same year with Ben R. If he wins MVP on Feb.12, he is 100% done.

Tom Brady has millions of reasons to extend his career just another week
According to Spotrac, $15 million of Brady’s $20 million signing bonus was deferred to Feb. 4, 2022. If Brady retires before Friday, he will give up the bonus money. Should Brady decide to continue to the 2022 season, Spotrac notes his entire salary would be guaranteed but voided if he decides to retire.

Brady gets that $15 million either way - it's back-pay and not contingent on him playing (although Tampa Bay could go after a portion of his signing bonus if he doesn't play out his contract).
I think Tom ends up retiring, although it is just continuously crazy to see how far Adam Schefter has fallen since how he bungled the Rodgers reporting last year.

About 35 percent of voters said Patriots fans were the most obnoxious fans in the NFL, followed by Cowboys fans at 13.34 percent and Eagles fans at nine percent. Perhaps even more eye-popping were the Patriots grabbing first place for most annoying fan base regardless of sport, taking 12.08 percent, topping the Los Angeles Lakers who had 5.93 percent. “All of Boston,” ranked third in that category with 5.62 percent. This is why Brady is so great because he is living the moment, not reliving the past. If you talk too much about the past, you forget the current job. When he does his HOF speech in Canton, you Patriots fans better be there. I'm quite sure he will mostly talk about the Pats.

Why? He made his heartfelt goodbye to NE fans two years ago.
Exactly. I'm a Pats fan and I realize this. I don't understand the backlash and I don't understand the backlash from the same group of fans when he left for Tampa. I spent the first 28 years of my life in MA but have been gone for 15 years so maybe I have different perspective. I know that when I did live there the Boston sports talk radio crowd was more toxic than anything that's happening these days on social media. I'm glad I left all that behind when I moved away from MA and now just enjoy my teams in a bubble without listening to those miserable fans who are a loud minority for sure but make all Boston sports fans look like lunatics to the outside world.

He's unemployed though. He has no current job. Its ALL the past, starting now.

Bye to the GOAT!
I wish you had played anywhere but New England as you created insufferable bores, whiners, conspiracy theorists and braggadocious babies out of those fans.
Ah well, Big Ben will join you as a Hall of Famer regardless of what the BO dolts say.
Viva la Brady!

I don’t think he cares at all but it could create some fun at the ceremony.
Steelers fans will no doubt be there’re en masse as they always are and may boo Brady.

LOL. If there's any good example of the zanny love/hate/"I effin' miss you" relationship between Pats fans and Brady, this is it.

man, what a rough sports week for me.
Brady retires, JimmyG's last game as a 49er, and we get bounced after being up 10 in the NFC title game.
awesome....

Here’s a question I heard on Mismatch podcast today: if you’re a Pats fan would you trade Mac Jones right now for a guaranteed two more years of Brady would have you do it? It’s an easy yes for me.

I'd say 3/4 of the league would trade their starter for two years of Brady, Patriots included.

would mac ever be guaranteed to be a top 5 qb for two years in a row? bc brady probably would, and unless you’re the 49ers, you kinda have to have one to win a title…

I knew there would be comeback rumors this autumn, but am surprised they started so soon. I figured it would take a contender to lose a QB to injury in Oct/Nov and then Brady returning would be a natural rumor to surface.
