They have Boggs for the Sox, but for me, Clemens was nails...

They went with Mario Soto, didn’t expect that. Mentioned Eric Davis, that was my first thought. Man, if it wasn’t for injuries

As a jays fan I agree with Stieb.
Such a shame Gooden couldn't keep it on track. Would have been awesome to see where his numbers ended up.

I still think he has a lower tier HOF case, that was essentially ruined by his failed potential making people not realize how good his career ended up being.

Can I get a little respect for Tom Heinke?

I don't know how a zero time All Star can be a team's best player.

Bobby Grich, for the Angels baby. I think the Angels and Rangers were just about the most wah-wah-wahwahahahaa names on the list...and I loved me some #4 growing up.

Not sure who you are referring to, guessing the reds?
But If a guy played well for 8-10 years I would take that player over someone who played 3 years and was an all star for two of them. For a Best of a Decade Team.

I would take the guy who was a 4x AS in 7 seasons with the team.

I'm all about them guys. As much as I love those WS teams it was the late 80's and early 90's jays teams that really energized the baseball fan in me.
I kinda feel the same energy from this current crop of core players as I did for those 80's beasts.

Boggs was better for longer in the 80s.

The only one I disagreed with was Soto over Eric Davis. Other than that a solid list.

14 of 26 named are HoFers. They say they did not just pick the player with highest WAR for each team in that decade, but it would be nice to know what direction WAR would point

I really can't argue with any of them. I would have Eric Davis over Soto also but I can accept the argument for Soto. I think you can make a case for Canseco, McGwire, Eck or Dave Stewart in OAK but Henderson wins by having 5 seasons in the 80s where the others were 3-4 seasons. I still think I would pick Dave Stewart as my choice. And as a Red Sox fan I say Boggs/Clemens is a toss up but I can't argue with Boggs being the guy

Love Dorktown. Can’t wait for the rest of that series.

Solid list. I agree with others that said Eric the Red over Soto. Personally I’d also probably pick Downing over Grich as it relates to the Angels of the 1980s but I like seeing Grich get some love. But I think the biggest miss is the Rangers. MBuddy Bell seems like the obvious choice over Hough.

I’d pick Mattingley for the Yankees, but it feels wrong to not be Winfield. Recency bias more than a full look at the 80s.
But Harold Baines for the White Sox? I’ve never been a hysterical Baines hater with the whole Hall of Fame thing, but the face of the 80s Sox team was Carlton Fisk.

Dave Stewart only was a member of the A’s for less than 4 seasons. He came over at the end of May in 1986 and started 17 games.
Mark McGwire set the rookie home run record, was rookie of the year and was an all star in all 3 seasons he played in the 80’s.
Jose Canseco won rookie of the year, MVP, was an all-star 3 out of the 4 seasons he played in the 80’s and became the first ever 40/40 man.
Rickey Henderson was a 4 time all-star in the 80’s out of his 5 1/2 years in Oakland. And led the league every year in stolen bases with the A’s.
After a closer look I would give the nod to Canseco. Even though Rickey started out in Oakland he played for so many other teams it is hard to associate him solely with the A’s. Plus Canseco was way cooler and part of the Bash Brothers.

Little known fact. I own Dave Stieb's official Blue Jays luggage.

Those mid-late 80s Mariners uniforms are the worst in MLB history. Extremely generic and no identity or soul.

It’s tough. Good thing I have some experience!
I picked it up at an estate sale a few years back. There’s three pieces. Big embroidered Jays logo on each. He lives fairly close to me

Baines was just as good as Fisk in the 80s. Plus the White Sox retired his number while he was still active.
