I don't have the time or patience to deal with UPS and Fed Ex for insurance claims since they don't really even offer insurance and make it difficult if not impossible to sometimes make a claim. I want to look into getting third party shipping sort of like ShipCover on ebay does for USPS.
Anyone have any recommendation for using a third party insurance provider for ebay sales?

I just use pirate ship and insure through them (shipsurance I believe).

I used to use upic..

when I used them they were great. my policy with them was very reasonable and it covered incoming and outgoing packages.
easy to make a claim, quick to pay.
with all that said, I have not needed their service for a while so I can not vouch if they still are good.

I have been doing this for over $2000 in value as well. It was $28 for my last Medium Box Priority mail and it makes me more relaxed with shipments. My last shipment I used without insurance to send to COMC and I was nervous the entire time. Even though I know getting a payback might be almost impossible if something goes wrong, the comfort of thinking my package is insured makes me sleep better at night...

Didn't realize this thread had responses. I did sign up for ShipStation which I believe uses shipsurance but to me it sounds like I might have the same issues since they use the same guidelines as Fed Ex/UPS and I am afraid if Fed Ex says it wasn't packaged right I'd lose.
I recently had a $300+ item get damaged in transit and was never delivered and thrown out. I was denied my claim due to insufficient packaging. I spent over an hour packaging the item and went above and beyond. They could not confirm why I exactly I failed ( I even checked their website packaging guidelines) and kept denying my claim. I finally told them we were going to small claims court and I got a call this morning after being told several times to screw off.
Regardless of if I get my money back or not I don't have time to deal with fighting insurance claims when Fed Ex/UPS feel like playing kick ball with my packaged or using them for speed bumps. I send out 1000's of packages and I would think maybe a few claims wouldn't be an issue for the volume I do.
I haven't actually used shipstation yet I just started self insuring to see how that goes. Almost every single package I send through UPS is $7-$18 cheaper than Fed Ex and though UPS is much harder to get a claim accepted the extra money I am saving might be enough to self insure any damaged claims. I'll see how that goes before I really ramp up my business later this year but at least there are a few options.

I just shipped a $5000 card fully insured USPS priority for $50 ($40 of it was for the additional insurance).
