have been watching some Grapefruit League games--Arias looks legit-skipped AA ball and was the third youngest player in AAA. i'm sure the Guardians will keep him down to control his years. The outfield looks like a trainwreck unless they can get franmil reyes to play out there regularly. Bullpen is Clase without many other experienced relievers.

I have to admit, as a lifelong Indians fan dating to Super Joe, I am really struggling to connect to the team. Listening to a game and they are talking about some team I've never heard of. Most players that are unknown, and those that are known are being offered for trade. The team does nothing to improve year after year. I no longer live in Ohio.
Leaning toward becoming a free agent.

Love that the two free agent signings were in the form of a AAAA back-up catcher and Bryan Shaw. This team isn't even going to pretend to try to be watchable with a $45 million payroll and holes at catcher, 1B, 2B, LF, and RF (and throughout the bullpen). All while disconnecting from the fan base with a botched rebrand.
At least they went all-in on their NRI deals this year with Enyel de los Santos, the retread corpse of Sandy Leon, Jake Jewell, and Ian Gibaut.

It will be useless until they go on a run and some how become playoff relevant for a month or so.... or if:
- Franmil stays healthy and hits a ton of HR
- J-Ram is top 3 in MVP voting through the whole year with a shot at winning
- Bieber/Civale/Plesac all have a great year and are top 15 in Cy Young with one of them winning it
- McKenzie looking like a legit #1 starter
This could all happen, but we will have no run support. J-Ram will go 2-4, Franmil will hit a HR with no one on. The starter will either have no runs and then the bullpen gives up the 1-0 lead or give up 1 run in a 0-1 loss.

Granted nobody is a real lock for starting except
3B J-Ram (unless they trade him)
CF Straw
DH Franmil
To me, every position is really open and the guys who are competing for them are AAAA players, farm system guys, some old guy they signed as an invite or someone who started 2-3 years ago and then lost their job.

IF Biebs returns to form I expect the SP to be among the league's best ERA wise. Im expecting strong showings from T McK and Quantrill. Both are talented enough to not need Civale and Plesac to be world beaters IMO.
The offense though, yeah lots and lots of question marks. Maybe a Steven Kwan -type surprises and becomes a solid OF for them. Maybe Bradley is consistent enough to let the power play all year. Maybe Bradley Zimmer isnt a total stiff. Who knows.

Agreed, if we let up 2+ runs then realistically we won't have a chance to win. Hopefully Bradley can hit 35+ HR (with limiting Ks) and Franmil can get 42+. I expect Ramirez to hit a lot of doubles like he did in 2017 when he led the league. That will help out in getting (hopefully) an easy run each time.
Also, I think they shut down a lot of their staff last year because they didn't have a shot at going to the playoffs/wanted the young guys to play and see for this year. So I think Bieber will be fine, it is just getting off the rust from not facing competition in so long.
You mean the 37M payroll isn't going to fill the seats? Another cheapskate owner that has completely ruined a franchise and decided to just bank the revenue sharing money. I remember when they set the records for sellouts. Ramirez probably gets traded this year or next. Bieber as well.

I can't figure out what they are doing in the outfield - you know at this point Zimmer (850+ career PAs with a .657 OPS/79 wRC+), Mercado (800+ career PAs, .686 OPS/82 wRC+), and Naylor (650 career PAs, .695 OPS/87 wRC+ coming off a massive injury with -- defense) are not legitimate MLB players, at least not on good teams.
Nolan Jones was bad last year and still hasn't resumed full activity off of his injury late last season. George Valera has 100 PAs above A-ball. They want to try Amed Rosario in LF (with all of 126 career innings there as a career SS).
I think their complete lack of planning in the OF is the most discouraging part because it's like they didn't even fake an attempt - the AAA outfield right now is going to be failed prospects/TTO guys Will Benson/Oscar Gonzalez with Daniel Johnson too, who belongs in the Mercado/Zimmer bucket. Not even any NRI signings to hold out fake hope for!

I have moderate hopes for Johnson and Benson maybe. Mercado at his best seems league avg across the board. Zimmer wouldve been cut long ago if it weren't for A- their OF dire straits. B- Him losing so much time due to injury before last year. C- Showing super high sprint speed and and an occasional 450'+ HR. Now is his last best shot.
There are plenty of semi talented OF/1B/DH types blocked in MLB that coulda been had for a bag o balls to create some more competition in camp but as it looks now lets just say that it's the worst OF in MLB, again.

Arias was optioned to Columbus today.
I wish they’d give up on the Bobby Bradley experiment already and move Chang to 1st and let Arias see the bigs playing 2nd and platooning at SS with Giminez.
Our infield talent thru the organization is amazing but it’s so clogged up right it’s a wonder when we will ever be able to see guys like Arias, Freeman and Rocchio

I usually try to be optimistic with the team, but there is nothing really to be optimistic about.
The outfield will be a revolving door with no one getting an everyday shot to even see if they can perform.
JRam will be gone at some point (the extension may happen just to make his value go up)
The front office literally signed a back up catcher and Bryan Shaw.... YIKES.... They are not even trying.
This will be like when Kevin Milwood won the ERA title and had a losing record... Sorry Biebs...
Bullpen is the worst it has been in quite sometime
The Dolan's need to go and I was hoping for the minority owner but not sure what happened there...

I still think though that the revolving door of outfielders that Francona uses and never just giving someone the job is part of the problem with the OF. Now I'm not saying any of the guys you mentioned would be great, but Francona's style does not help younger players.

From what I heard, there is a new minority owner (other one sold his shares to buy Royals) has options/ability to buy the team in 5-6 years. Not sure how the new guy would be about spending, but I assume he would be better.

Yea I am not a fan of platooning unless the two players are older vets and need the days off.
I remember Zimmer starting off great during his rookie season before injuring his shoulder sliding into first. He then couldn't stay healthy. Mercado then came up in his place and played great for a rookie, but the second year he couldn't progress.
I think Naylor could be a solid option in RF if he plays up to his potential however coming off a bad injury, I worry he may be slower now in the field and have to rely on playing 1B.
I prefer Chang at either 2B or 3B and the way he is playing, he should earn the starting spot on opening day.
Let the young guys play and see what they can do.
You know there are only 10 teams with a payroll under 100M, and only 4 with a payroll under 50m. At this point, the As, Pirates, Cleveland, and Bal should be threatened with contraction. Its a joke that they're all just at or below 40m. They're really the only 4 teams not trying at all. Its a shame because they've all had great runs in the past.

I hate being a Cleveland apologist but they are very much in contention again this year. Last year their top three starters all missed multiple months and still finished 2nd in the division and a decent record until the All-Star Break when the wheels started falling off. They may not pay anybody but they're trying and will compete with what could be one the best divisions in baseball. They've done it every year for about a decade.
They've done well developing pitchers, but you can't tell me 37M where 18 of it are Ramirez and Bieber is trying.

Their front office is trying, ownership is not. I think Cleveland could have four top 15 cy young finishes this year if the starting 5 holds up. And Cal Quantrill could be the best of all of them.
@LVDan well done on buying. He is limited to a couple of late 2019 releases and will be on some more radars in May.

It's hard to discuss payroll in MLB when everyone who is pre-arbitration is basically playing for peanuts regardless of how good they are. It's good clickbait to trash a team with a 39 million payroll but then you consider: Triston McKenzie, Zach Plesac, Aaron Civale, Myles Straw, and Emmanuel Clase are all pre-arb. 60% of your rotation and your closer. What would be "fair market" for those guys? Bieber is only making 6 million. Franmil at 4.5 Quantrill at 2.5. You get the point. They are worth far more than 39 million in terms of talent.
The key will be whether or not the team makes the moves to sign and extend these guys. As others have said, this could be a lethal rotation for years to come. Still a solid farm system as well. That 39 million can balloon very quickly when you start paying guys what they are worth.
I'm optimistic that an 80-82 team who lost nobody of significance and dealt with injuries all year could at least be in the conversation again. When you are this young, it's hard to know just how good you might actually be.

Excellent point that I hadn’t considered.
When you have a bunch of young cheap pitching, that's the time you sign a bunch of fa position players and make a run for it. Were they even involved with any fa this offseason? Spend another 70-100m and go for it. You're telling me they couldn't have done the Correa deal because you have Rosario? Sign a 1B, etc. What exactly is the plan, extend all the starters and then have no money for pos players? They have the second lowest payroll in baseball and are 60M behind the Reds.

I just read they expect their payroll to get to $50MM by opening day. Hopefully that means an extension for Ramirez.
Hopefully with the young arms, they can sign some team friendly extensions with some and then get some additional assets for others they don't.
Remember how angry people were for not signing Kluber? Ended up trading him away to Texas for Clase and Deshields and so many people were pissed. Kluber has looked a shell of himself outside of the no-hitter he threw and we got one of the top 5 closers in the league. I can see a few guys on the rotation that end up having a career like Kluber (which isn't bad at all) where the money spent isn't worth it.
Cleveland staff is really the MVP because they are able to identify young talent and help them become very good players or young stars.

I agree with this 100% but I think we are a year too early for that. Remember, they did spend up leading to 2016 when they knew they had a run in them so there is precedent for making a few splashes when they feel they are getting close.
I think with them being so young and not knowing exactly what they have yet, it made sense to wait a year. Let's find out more about Gimenez, Chang, Rosario. Is Arias ready? Is Steven Kwan on the right trajectory to start alongside Straw? Will JRam re-sign? Can we lock up Bieber? If they can answer some of those questions and solidify a few positions, maybe sign some key extensions, then they could head into offseason with a better plan for trades and free agency. And if they really shock the world and end up in a playoff race, maybe they would advance the timeline with some deadline deals. I guess I'm okay with another year of middling if it provides clarity on what moves will be best for the long term.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter. Pro sports is at a point where regardless people won't stop going and watching. Changing from an all time great legendary name to a terrible name, not spending any money, not looking like contenders for the foreseeable future. Dolan is a piece of garbage. But enough people will still watch and go to games. I couldn't even begin to guess how much Indians baseball I watched on tv the last 25+ years. How many 100s of games I've been to. Went to every playoff and World Series game except for 1 since 2007. I don't plan on ever watching or going to a Guardians of the Game game. If they ever make the playoffs I will probably watch because it's playoff baseball. Not because I ever want to watch them play.
Very few people care or will change. I'm in the very small minority. If people quit going to games and stopped watching maybe it would change. If thousands of people showed up opening day to protest maybe it would help. I've never attended a protest in my life but if I knew thousands would be protesting opening day I would go and protest.

So reports are Padres are trying to get J-Ram before Opening Day... they are supposedly pursuing him hard. I feel that if they can't extend him then they may trade him sooner than later
IF he were to get traded to SD, who would you want in return?
I can see CJ Abrams, an MLB level OF, and a few lower tier prospects.

Also, we would probably need to include a Middle Infield prospect on our end because we would have way too many. I could see a lower ceiling guy getting added.
They typically do well recently in trades so I would assume if they do trade him that we would get a nice haul.
Also I heard in contrast that all this trade talk is swirling so that Cleveland will give a better offer to J-Ram instead of the 4 year 89MM offer they did before.

True hometown discount. I believe Jose really wanted to be here for the long term. One of the best team-friendly contracts in all of baseball. Next up is Bieber in my opinion. Will hopefully happen around the All-Star break if he has a good first two months, or going into the start of next season.

I thought ST might have been a fluke but anyone who gets 8 hits during opening weekend deserves a little attention. I can't believe he's never had a card before. 5th round pick who hit .300+ in his minor league career and hasn't even appeared in a Pro Debut or Heritage Minors set. Crazy.

Which is great... Good thing with Naylor is he can play 1B too. Bobby hasn't been great and Chang has been ok so far. He could play OF to give one of them a day off too along with playing 1B.

I may be wrong, but it seems like in years past that Cleveland would develop young guys. Then not retain them and have a talented player go into FA. Now it seems that they get these young guys, then they have a flash in the pan for a season or two, struggle then are after thoughts.
Bieber isn't the same dominate pitcher, Civale was supposed to be that #1-C option behind him with Plesac being a #1 starter in the second slot. McKenzie is doing pretty decent for a #4 starter, but still can do better (doing amazing compared to the other 4 though). I also think this can be attributed to Hedges if he is the one calling the game and not the coach relaying it in to him.
Definitely not consistent on offense and Francona seems to always mix up the lineups to try and outsmart the other team. I will be curious to see when he decides to hang it up, I don't see Cleveland ever firing him just because he is a big name manager to coach in a smaller market (and want to).

I have not been able to watch any Guardian games this year (fan of a NL East team), but I come in peace!
I was in a "years of bowman" break and bought Cleveland particularly because I liked your prospects in 2021 and 2022 products. However, I ended up hitting a sparkle auto of Oscar Gonzalez. I went to BRef to check it out and see he's with the big club and hitting .400 in 65 PA.
I am not very familiar with this guy, is there a consensus on his ceiling? Is he expected to be an everday major leaguer? I know I could look some of this up, but its fun to discuss with fans. Thanks!

I’m no expert. But he trains with Manny Ramirez and has the same fearless approach as manny. Not the mastery of the strike zone yet. The fear is not the tools, it’s fear he will swing at too many pitches out of the zone. He’s gotten a lot of hits this year already hitting bad balls. Make no mistake, he’s a tough out. He will go oppo, hit situationally. Most impressive is his bat speed and contact rate. I think he stays. Major holes in Cleveland’s outfield. He’s got amazing tools. Seems like a great op for him. The big hope is he starts to elevate the ball and show off his power.

Interestingly enough, I barely notice the name change. I think part of the reason is nobody in Cleveland ever called them the Indians anyway lol. Everyone said "Tribe" and still does. Tribe still applies if using the literal definition so I still say tribe and at least everyone I know still says tribe so it doesn't feel like the name has even changed.

I honestly wanted Tribe. For the logo, you can just do the "C" and maybe eventually create another logo. You couldn't even call it "racist" or anything based on the definition and would be actually accurate for the city of Cleveland.
Not a fan of the name, I still say Indians and the logo is horrible too. Also, I would have preferred if they changed the colors too from red & blue to maybe orange & blue.... tie into the other teams in the city Browns (Orange) and Cavs (team has had orange in their uniforms).

For Plesac and Civale, I feel they need to hit their stride. They aren't in MLB ready shape from injuries. Bieber is back to form from his injury last year. Triston is solid except he seems to always have a bad pitch where they hit a HR. Luckily it has mostly been solo HR but needs to limit that.
We have a lot of young talent, it is hard to say if we should trade them for MLB guys for a playoff push or trade the MLB starter for a rental to allow them to move into the lineup next year.
Franmil would be hard to move since he is playing poorly, we traded/DFA some of the other low hanging fruit (Zimmer & Mercado which I am bummed since they both showed promise). Bo Naylor is in the waiting to come up as our starting catcher so I would trade/move our starters and some other guys for a rental in Contreras. I am fine with our OF, but don't think Owen Miller is our future 1B so that could be another rental position (Josh Bell?)

This feels like the Cavs all over again. Same comments. They are "exciting", "fun to watch", "young", "team-friendly contracts", "good chemistry".
Guardians youngest team in MLB.
Browns youngest team in NFL.
Cavs were 7th youngest before the Rubio trade. I'm sure they are in the top 5 now. See what happens in Free Agency.

I will say, still feel like the twins have a much better shot at winning the division than the guardians. Guardians have yet to dominate the twins in really any game they’ve played. Like the twins did on Monday/game 2 Tuesday. Everyone of Cleveland’s wins over the twins has been by 1 run.

I don't look at scores like that and say oh another team is better because they dominated in a couple of ball games. That being said at this point. The Twins do and should have with their team make up versus the Guardians ongoing development do have the better shot of winning the division. But as they say that's why you have to play the games.

What I’m more so saying is the twins have beaten the guardians in numerous different ways. They’ve won blowouts, they’ve won close games like the 1-0 last week. The guardians have only won because of Twins bullpen meltdowns. If the twins fix their bullpen, the guardians haven’t shown in 10 games they can beat the twins in any method except Twins bullpen falling apart
Of course I say this and the guardians will probably win today like 7-1 cuz it’s Bieber and this is a hardcore jinx by me

In similar central news, Twins and guardians will have a chance to bury the white Sox by the all star break. Twins have 7 versus them, guardians have 4. Doesn’t mean either team will succeed by burying them, but with them 6 back of the twins and 4 back of the guardians, if both teams post winning records against Chicago, there is a very good shot that Chicago is 8-9 back of first place at the all star break

But you have to stay in the game to even get to the bullpen. It's not like they scored a ridiculous amount of runs just of the bullpen. Yes the outcomes have come off the bullpen at times but that doesn't mean they can't beat them or hang with them in other ways. I'm not trying to be a homer but I think it's a little hard to make the statement that you are trying to make.

I mean they kind of have scored the bullpen of their runs off of the bullpen. In the 4 guardians wins over the last week-ish
6/21 - 6 runs scored, 3 off starter, 3 bullpen
6/22 - 11 runs scored, 3 off starter, 8 bullpen
6/28 - 3 runs scored, 1 off starter, 2 bullpen
6/29 - 7 runs scored, 3 off starter, 4 bullpen
So you’ve scored 27 runs, 17 of those were off the bullpen. With I think 9 of them versus Pagan. You’re scoring 63% of your runs off the bullpen.

I guess 4 games to me doesn't mean that a team can't beat someone any other way. I can look up the numbers I know they are there, but I don't think you say one team has no way of beating another team in that small of a sample size.

I really do get what you are saying but I don't agree with the logic. I could argue that if you don't score off the starter and suddenly in your sample size that's 10 more that have to be scored off the bullpen and that likely doesn't happen.

Looking ahead as the trade deadline approaches I wonder if/who the Guardians will be targeting for trade. No secret that Cleveland has a pile of minor league talent and no place to put them moving forward - they could be very active.
Bryan Reynolds - under control until 2025 and really doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh to move unless they get both quality and quantity which Cleveland could fulfill.
Frankie Montas - He might be the pitcher who commands the most at the trade deadline but I see no reason that Cleveland wouldn't be in the mix
Andrew Benintendi? - Empty batting average but he gets on base. Not sure I would understand this one but I am trying to think of players who are available and fit the Cleveland mold (Low strikeout, athletic)
Carl Edwards - I think bullpen arms available at the deadline will be few and far between but Edwards could slot into the Guardians pen.
Jose Quintana? - Showing signs of life again. Would be a consolation prize to any of the major starting pieces that get moved.
Willson Contreras - Huge hole in the lineup at catcher - Would be a huge get.
Just some names that have crossed my mind this week. Any thoughts?

I mean I could say the same thing about the Twins against the top starters for the Guardians, you've only faced Bieber and Quantrill once and only scored i think like 4 runs of those 2, bigger wins were against Civale, Pilkington and one outlier against McKenzie, Plesac is somewhere in the middle. So if Civale gets right and everyone is healthy and on their current track can the Twins beat the top starters of the Guardians? They haven't shown it on a regular basis right?

I'm talking production the Twins have not faced Bieber or Quantrill but once the whole season. Quantrill is certainly above McKenzie as things stand today. Not head and shoulders but he is above.
My point is still that of the games you guys won and the bigger wins Bieber,Quantrill and even Plesac were not on the mound. It was Civale, Pilkington and McKenzie and the Guards came back and won one of the bad McKenzie games.

I mean I could say the same things, and I could even add the guardians can’t even hit the middle of the Twins rotation as Devin Smeltzer who’s nowhere near our top starter has diced up the guardians for what, 1 run in 12/13 innings the past 2 starts?
As things stand today, because the twins pounced on McKenzie his last 2 starts? What about before those 2 starts, would you have said McKenzie is below Quantrill?

Part of my point that I'm trying to get at is that you can go back and forth with little stats ie your bullpen comment my top 2 starter comment and the point is none of it matters thats why you play the games. They have played 10 games against each other I think it is that's not enough to clearly state any trend etc.
As far as McKenzie for me Quantrill was above him before the two starts

That’s fair. I am expecting Cleveland to win today as I definitely have jinxed it. If the twins can steal today, this weekend sets up nicely for the twins to add on to their lead with you guys playing the Yankees and us playing the Orioles. Would have just been nice to have added to our division lead more when given the opportunities.
I will say, the twins have bounced back strong after these bullpen meltdowns especially on Tuesday afternoon, so I’m hopeful they bounce back today. Just worried that one of these bullpen meltdowns will be the straw that breaks the camels back

I haven't posted here a ton, but the Guardians have been...more fun than I expected, I guess? Lot of oddities with how much the pitching has regressed but the young bats are (mostly) ahead of themselves. Really enjoy Gimenez, hope he makes the All Star team this year.
Some really difficult decisions for the front office to make coming up - Nolan Jones is raking in AAA, Tyler Freeman turned it around after a slow start, Will Brennan looks like a legit bat, and a bunch of the young guys at lower levels are playing well. They're going to have to consolidate talent sooner or later, and that goes a long way toward the direction of the organization.

I agree.
What I see, if they still continue to be top 2 in the division and win close games, they will make a move or two by the deadline. It would be maybe a utility guy or platoon guy on the MLB roster along with a young guy for a rental and some other lower prospect that can grow. I see either a C, some bullpen help, 1B or OF spot but definitely not all those spots.
I heard they are trying Nolan Jones in OF, but the way I look at it, if he was THAT good then they would have brought him up to figured out where to play him vs keeping him down all this time.

Great debut weekend from Nolan Jones, definitely the bright spot of a bad baseball week - that and the last two starts from McKenzie are especially encouraging.
Wild to me that Andres Gimenez made an All-Star roster in Cleveland before Lindor made one in New York. Clase making one while Kluber was a total waste in Texas. Couple solid trades to reflect on, even if this season is getting not-so-fun.

Bringing this up for some deadline thoughts - I think they might add a catcher (Omar Narvaez?), maybe a flier on an arm or two, but probably not do much. Really expecting more "Connor Capel for Oscar Mercado" type deals, thinning the guys that need to be added to the 40 man this winter.
Also adding - Andres Gimenez is fun. What a showing last night with four hits and three steals.
And Franmil is getting demoted to AAA Columbus if he's not dealt today; who EVER would've imagined that happening?

Steven Kwan has been amazing this year. For a player no one gave a second thought (he didn't make it into ANY product?), he has been very good in the Majors, and a big part of the team's success this season. Can't wait to get some of his cards.

Die hard too, I will always refer to them as the Indians. Also still waiting until the minority owner buys the team from Dolan. I have heard that he isn't afraid to spend money on his teams to win. Not saying give me a Yankees payroll, but if they spend in the middle of the pack, I think fans will come back to watch games.
Note: There has been a huge drop-off since the name change, over 30% drop in TV views and 6k less fans coming to games. I think going from 20-22 ranking in attendance to basically 28th-ish.

From what I can gather there was some tension with Franmil and management because of him not staying in shape and it spiraled when he just wasn't productive.
As far as the deadline I was hoping to see a decent starter maybe and some bullpen help but I guess maybe they can do something in the off season and use this time to figure out who can play etc with some of the fringe 40 man roster guys.

That makes sense with Franmil, he was supposed to learn to play RF to allow some other guys to DH but it seemed he never really cared. Granted if you consistently hit 40+ HR a year and .250ish then you would always have a roster spot.

After a rough 1st inning this kid is killing it. He could really use a pick me up from the offense here.

Tough loss tonight, but can still get the series win tomorrow and at least the Twinkies lost also.

Great win last night. Oscar really starting to shine in RF. Just let him keep playing!! Civale looked good again.... Maybe he has righted the ship... Twinkies and Chi-Sox lose all in all a great night.
August 24th 1st place and 9 games over .500. Wow! This has been fun!

You don't have to worry about the Twins. They could make the Titanic II movie about that team.

This team feels invincible right now. Go to San Diego and give up 1 Run. JRam and Oscar Gonzalez each with two homers in the small series.

Yeah, 5 L's in a row with a total of 4 runs. It's been rough. Really hoped they could pull it off tonight and stop the bleeding. Oh well.

Francona must be one of the best clubhouse managers of all time, but he is just truly dreadful as an in-game manager. So much of these struggles that the team has run into the last couple seasons are a direct result of poor lineup construction and roster management.
His obsession with guys that were crappy utility infielders (like he was) seems to have cost the Guardians just about every year. I can only handle so much Ernie Clement, Mike Freeman, Owen Miller, Michael Martinez, etc.

I'm with you there. But the reporters in Cleveland think he is the greatest because of what this team has done this year.
This team needed offensive help when the rosters expanded and we got Ernie Clement.

So ugly. The one run sucks, but didn't surprise me. But Clase starting off with two walks blew my mind.

How Will Brennan or Bo Naylor didn't get called up given that Straw/Maile/Hedges have been three of the worst players in the Majors this year offensively is beyond me. Even worse when you've got Richie Palacios DH'ing and Ernie Clement/Owen Miller continuing to play regularly while Jones/Arias are still in AAA.

Have no idea why Francona insists on running some guys out regardless how bad they are... Clement, Miller, and the others you mentioned. This is why regardless of what some are saying Franconia is not a youthful teams ideal manager

If the White Sox could just get Tony La Russa back healthy, the Guardians could have this division pretty well locked up soon.

What a weapon Clause is in the 9th. That guy just comes in throwing gas and that cutter is almost impossible to square up.
That trade with Texas may go down as one of the biggest heists in team history. To think they got one of the 3 best closers in baseball for 1 inning of Kluber, is straight-up robbery. Between that trade, the Lindor trade and a few others I have no idea why anybody would want to trade with the Guards/Tribe. They have a way of finding guys in these trades. All things considered, especially the market and financial constraints you would be hard-pressed to find a better front office over the past 15-20 years.

They made some weird decisions over the years, but overall I would have to agree. They said Clase went to the Francona and Carl Willis and apologized for blowing the save the other night. They told him you're human we think you're alright. Especially when it "ballooned" his ERA to 1.36 or something like that.

It is the talent recognition as well as getting multiple guys for 1 when trading. If you are able to throw more at the wall, then there is a better likelihood that one will stick.
Just wish they would sign some vets here and there and spend some money (not a ton) to fill in some of the gaps or to add depth.

Agree about the spending, they have need a corner bar with some pop for the last 20 years or so.
I think they may be a bit scared from some of the past free agent deals. Most of their big ticket signings have been rather meh. Edwin and Nick Swisher come to mind. Those guys were alright but really nothing special. Free agency with those 2’d level guys can be a scary proposition, just hard to find guys who are going to provide value on the backend of those contracts. I think they are afraid of getting stuck with an albatross.

I think you may see some of that in the off season, I really think the management team decided to see what they have with the current 40 man, etc. and may tweak somethings in the off season. I may be wrong but I think it could happen.

Agreed, they will just need to limit the length of the contract. Granted I think both were coming off a good year when they signed them and just didn't produce for what they were being paid. They could easily wait (like they normally do) and then sign a vet to a 1 year deal with a club mutual option for year 2 or do a 2 year deal. Who comes to mind this past offseason (Joc Pederson $6M, Tommy Pham $7.5M).

I think they will extend some guys and sign some guys to minor league deals that could crash the MLB roster. Not sure who would be a good target this coming offseason. I guess it depends on how we do this postseason.

Oh yeah the I think the minority owner will allow us to keep some guys.. then get those middle of the road guys like you are talking about for a cheap 1 or 2 year contract.
And by the way clutch bomb by Oscar!

Absolutely. I think he is going to be a very solid player going forward. I know we aren't the best team by any means, but if they can keep it going may have a punchers chance in the playoffs to make a little noise.
