pretty late to the party, .....but, got my 1st rookies in rosemont, IL
last weekend, sgc 6.5 and a (undergraded, imo) sgc 4.5

been "chasing" this card for about 6 months, finally pulled the trigger.

quick data re-cap: from jan-20 to jan-21, using psa 6, bird/magic rookie
at least TRIPLED in value. from approx. $350 to $ 1,200.

jan-21 to march-21 saw "irrational exuberance" drive prices up to 3k !!!
and it's spent the last 9 months gradually coming down to......$ 1,200.

when i set up at shows, the vast, vast majority of younger kids are primarily
into basketball (the shiny, new stuff)

i'm thinking it cannot be a very far stretch for these kids, beside jordan, wanting the greatest (multiple) rookie basketball card ever.

not only sustaining, but driving further demand.

last fact for now, with only (approx.) 24 bird/magic psa 10 rookies (vs. approx. 300+ for jordan) two psa 10's sold in the FALL of 2021
for OVER 3/4 of a million dollars. (861k and 780k)

Plentiful card, high-end record sales.
Rich get richer, launder money, dodge taxes.
Plebe pikers eventually realize their lower-grade cardboard isn't keeping up with inflation.
I owned a 7 for about a week in 2020 and let it go for 25 percent gain with no emotional attachment. I can buy one any time day or night so it means nothing to me. But with this kind of hype post, maybe I'm the fool here.

Of course the big question is whether the young hustlers leave the hobby for greener pastures or become interested in older cards. I'll bet they leave. I don't think they're sitting there going "Grandpa's guys are back down to 2020 levels and therefore are a brilliant long-term investment."

How is HBO's show about Magic doing? If the younger crowd isn't watching and the show gets cancelled after season 1 it doesn't bode well for the future trajectory of his rookie card. I bought a high end KA-J in anticipation of the show and then forgot that it had started.

Solid blue chip card that will likely not see any big movement +/- but a slow and steady climb in value over the long term.

I pretty much agree with this. Oustside of any huge pump or covid type boom, it's a solid iconic card that will hold value and if the hobby/market stays healthy you'll see that gradual climb over time.

although i don't agree with you, i appreciate the opinion. maybe they get burned with a "2022 star" who fades due to injury or poor play.

i just think the "relative affordability" of a multi-hof-major rookie
card is a pretty good landing spot.

i realize the low pop count drove the astronomical psa 10 prices in the fall,

but, there's got to be some positive trickle down, no ??

Where is the $1100 option?
