We're going to match photos featured on basketball cards from the 90s and we're going to find out when the photos were taken and where they were taken.

You can play along too:
- ANY ERA OF NBA (courtesy of Volborx :) )
- You must own the card
- The more history you want to post, the better.

* As this has some relation to the hobby, thread will probably sink fast.

Chicago Bulls vs New York Knicks, 1994 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals

This photo was taken at the Chicago Stadium, previously the Bulls' home court, located at 1800 West Madison Street in Chicago, IL, during Game 6 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Bulls and Knicks. Also known as "The Madhouse on Madison", the Chicago Stadium opened on March 28, 1929, at a cost of $9.5 million, Chicago Stadium was the largest indoor arena in the world at the time. The stadium was closed in September of 1994 and demolished starting in February of 1995 through May of that same year. The Bulls won over the Knicks, 93-79, but were eliminated in Game 7. That means the photo on the front of this card was taken during the FINAL Bulls game to ever be played at home court in Chicago Stadium.

1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Game 6: Orlando Magic vs. Chicago Bulls

This game took place at the United Center and it was the last game of the season for the Bulls. The United Center is at 1901 West Madison Street and saw construction starting in 1992 and it was finally completed in 1994 on August 18. This was the end of Jordan's "I'm back" return for 1995. Jordan wore the number 45 for his jersey in game one and decided to wear 23 for game two onward. O'Neal and the Magic would go on to face the Houston Rockets.

Cool thread abra. I can literally smell those cards when looking at them like I was ripping the packs open. Weird how memory does that.

I am a BIG fan of this.
In fact look at this...

This Lebron card was from his very first NBA game. As far as I know (and I've not followed through on this much) it's the only card from his first game (there are parallels - this is the rarer gold version, there's also a base silver and facsimile sig /100 version )

Here's the back with all the details

I actually have a whole folder of cards devoted to famous moments.

You can see it here

I even have youtube links with the images in the folder when I could find them.

Here's one of my faves. Larry Johnson's 4 point play at MSG vs Indiana in the 98-99 playoffs to save the Knicks from a likely playoff exit.

That's really nice work in here so far. I like that all the cards highlighted have come from significant moments (3 playoff series including the final game at Chicago Stadium and a significant shot from the NY/IND series and LeBron's debut). It would be a really fun PC to collect cards that portray significant moments in league history.

Sadly as a mostly non-90s collector, I have little to contribute.

ljandkj,

The LJ 4-point play... I remember seeing that, it's still mind blowing, but what a great cap to that game. I can't believe it has been 20+ years. It's fun reading comments from some of the people that were there in person. The camera recording the fans was shaking from the stand up reaction, got them out of their seats that's for sure. :D

oops sorry not 90s

go ahead and post, no more 90s rule :D

Thanks dude. How crazy is it I Know the exact smell you're referring to lol.

Bulls vs. Knicks, Game 5 of the 1996 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals (May 14, 1996 at Chicago Stadium)

1996 SP Holoviews:

Image is from this moment, but taken at a different angle:
https://i.imgur.com/6WgWeYK.jpg

Michael Jordan soars past his close friend, Charles Oakley, for a reverse layup. Anthony Mason (RIP), Patrick Ewing, and John Starks can only watch hopelessly as he glides through the lane.

The funny thing? I did some digging, and he actually missed the layup

Moment is around the 1:16:10 mark - would've been a sweet play!

b8M65oPuc_Y&start=4570

The Bulls would end up winning this game to take the series 4-1.

Sadly, the Bulls and the Knicks have not faced each other in the playoffs since then.

Excellent work! Saw the footage as well, thank you for including the video. Happened so fast man, nice to have photos to capture that one singular moment to focus in on.

You're right! Wow! Two cards, I wonder if that play appears on any other cards.

I've noticed that in the ones I've seen. This set is extremely cool with the moments it captures. Would love to see it as you progress in building it!
