No doubt. I think only Cade, Mobley, Barnes and maybe Giddey are worth the premium.

I’m trying to get some multi-case Prizm breaks going here on BO that are player drafts. Would be so much more exciting than random nonsense.

I don’t think anyone is worth the premium you have to pay in this market but I do believe this class will ultimately raise the floor for these products from “setting your life savings on fire” to “my bank limits my ATM withdrawals now”.

Jalen Green too for me - he has star potential. The next tier down has a bunch of interesting guys (esp. Kuminga, but also Wagner, Ayo, Bones, Mitchell etc. Heck, maybe Suggs figures it out too) but they are best case only going to get you 50% of the box price barring something huge/rare

Right now must be the worst time to collect basketball cards because the market for modern low and mid-end cards are flat and yet the sealed boxes are still way overpriced.

Panini is an evil genius for selling FOTL direct to breakers/big 3/etc… at a set price decided ahead of time. It prevents FOTL from selling “too low” and messing with their overinflated pre-sale prices. It keeps up the appearance of continued demand and helps breakers justify their ridiculous box prices. Everybody knows these prices are stupid high but somehow certain people still buy into breaks. “Big Ballers” still open there personal boxes. All the while Panini laughs at how gullible and easily manipulated the general collecting public remains. If everybody stopped buying into breaks for 6 months you’d see a monumental shift in box prices.

I think it's just a bad time from the perspective of opening boxes. Maybe also because lots of low numbered stuff sits in unopened boxes. But I wonder if group breaking opens enough boxes to avoid that. All in all, I think being a low and mid end collector is great right now because things are extremely affordable.

Non-FOTL for $539 from Panini.

Will not be opening any of this at the price point. Was able to pick up last year for $350 a box 2-3 months after release. Should be the same and can't see hobby shops moving anything above $500.

I see the clear tickets are back from last year's debut, I am curious to see what people think of them in the near future and later on down the line. To me they seem the most unique and different of all the parallels, at least last year's version where the player pictures were zoomed out more and showed their full body rather than being cropped, and being acetate rather than x color. SSP is cool, but when stuff is not numbered some people act like it doesn't matter (or they just don't know without research). Football for both 2020-21 and 2021-22 are numbered to /10 btw, so they are super rare, but for basketball we don't know how rare since it was just "SSP". Not sure of the 2021-22 basketball release, I just see "clear" listed as a parallel, not sure if they still list it as SSP somewhere. Actually a little weird imo they number it in one sport and don't in another.

Just going to use Anthony Edwards as an example since I own one of them. PSA pop:
Rookie ticket clear (combined regular and DNA): 4 total graded
Rookie ticket variation clear (combined regular and DNA): 2 total graded
Cracked Ice Rookie ticket (combined regular and DNA): 12 total graded
Cracked Ice Rookie ticket variation (combined regular and DNA): 9 total graded

Cracked Ice prices are way above clear even though we are pretty sure there are less of them (yes, low pop does not equal better or more valuable, I understand). I got my clear ticket because I just liked the look and I thought the price was better for how rare it was compared to the other parallel counterparts. I just find it interesting to analyze or follow along with anyway. Carry on :3

3.5k for cade blue auto, mobley sold for 2.8k. The positive for contenders this year is that it is a really deep class and multiple hits.

It's interesting watching this one in it's first week after release. The box price seems to be holding steady although now that it sold out on the Panini website that may change. But the pricings that Breakers are getting on eBay auctions for Players/Teams is truly astounding. Last night in a case player break Cade got $800, Mobley $510, Jalen Green $760, Giddey $565, Kuminga $400. Even the next tier or two down were high - Suggs $250, Wagner $210 (which sees a bit undervalued in comparison), Bones Hyland $192, $168.

Also from what I can tell, your chances of hitting the big name seem lower than in something like Origins. If you define the tier 1 list as the 5 names above, Origins was giving ~ 4 per case in autos while Contenders is more like 2. Obviously the price in breaks is driven by the much higher ceiling for Contenders, but man there's a lot of blood in the water after these breaks.
