View Full Version : USPS updated tracking to "delivered - handed to resident" with unknown initials

Was there the whole time and USPS never came to my door and have doorcam history to prove it. Wasted a ton of time with eBay, going to neighbors and finally calling USPS. Turns out delivery guy put his own name/initials and claimed that he put the box in my mailbox. I said 100% false and his supervisor says something vague about following up tomorrow. WTF? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm basically in some weird unprotected buyer scenario where I've been utterly screwed by USPS. 0% chance that eBay helps me in anyway because it was shipped from the Authentic Guarantee place.

This sucks all the way around. I hope it was not a high dollar card.
USPS should be on the hook because the mailman has no right to sign for something that is not his. This was not the service that was paid for on the senders end.

This has happened frequently over the past two years. Ive even had UPS drop off packages that required a signature.

Never had anything stolen but Im sure if someone had taken the packages Id likely be out of luck.

Nobody took the package. It was never put in the box. We have cameras everywhere and see the mailman zoom by the front door on video like 15 mins before I got the mail (all letter envelopes, no cardboard box or priority packaging).

Other possibly weird thing: usually I get a disruptive notification in the eBay app (logged under See More under notices tab) when a card is delivered, in addition to an email notification. This time I got neither. I only noticed this card was marked as delivered by usps because I was more excited than usual and wanted to see the eta, was surprised/gutpunched to see "delivered" after just checking the mail.

Is it even possible that usps does something on their end to trigger the eBay notifications or just a weird coincidence re not receiving the usual "delivered" notifications when it was indeed not delivered?

It's a $700 raw prizm card. The only other one on eBay is a psa 10 listed for $6,500 obo.

Exactly right, had the same thing happen, not had an issue (i keep a look out for my signiture required deliveries and meet the driver outside just for this reason).both USPS and UPS drivers have said "with covid" no actual signing is allowed. The "left with individual" replaces the normal "signed"delivered. The p.o. ,ebay will both look at this as delivered.tuff spot to be in for the op.

If you didn't sign for it; you're covered. Not your initials? It's mail fraud.

You won't be screwed over IMO, but this will take a longgg time to resolve itself. File a claim and proceed.

Give it a couple days if you haven't already. Sometimes it will show up or the other person if they're honest will return it to the rightful owner. I live in a subdivision and my mail gets screwed up all the time with my neighbors. It's not just the post office FedEx is terrible as well. UPS is usually pretty good.

USPS made a special trip to bring it this morning after retrieving from neighbor's box supposedly. Very thankful although I spent way too much time tracking this down. Delivery guy signing for me without leaving it on doorstep or with any human being was unexpected but he seems like a good guy and this is their only misfire in years. My suggestion if this happens to anyone else is call the local USPS distribution # early and often. eBay will be 0 help.

I'm a carrier. During covid we were allowed to sign for customers to limit face to face interactions.

I get it and want them to sign for me in theory. But it leaves the buyer at the mercy of usps if any mistake is ever made. Signature confirmation is 100% seller protection only until Covid signature exception stops.

I remember they were doing that. I guess people should have been paying attention carriers weren't collecting signatures for confirmation during the pandemic. But they probably shouldn't have been charging or offering a service they temporarily weren't delivering either.

Theyre still doing it, some places at least.

I had something very similar happen to me. The post office just got it wrong. I'm not even sure how. But after initiating a non-delivery case with eBay and waiting two days for the refund, the item came and was delivered by a postal worker in the manner expected. Turns out their update was just wrong. I then told the seller it was delivered and closed the case. Hopefully you'll see the item in a couple of days.

Glad you were able to get the card. What a headache and wasted time.

I had a similar issue dealing with sneakers through Authenticity Guaranteed and made very little progress via email over a week. It wasn’t until I tweeted @eBay that I got a response to help within minutes. Got resolution within a day.

I had a $1000 fedex ground package delivered the other day, was signature required. Guy signed it himself, marked it as signed and dropped it on the porch and was on his way.

More and more with fedex or ups I have packages held at the local store and go pick them up myself.
