All I see is junk wax and reprints. Maybe someone was hoping those crisp Goudeys were real?

The Ichiro eTopps rookie is $100. That is the main thing that I saw in there.

5 people are idiots and think they have something that they don’t.

My guess, assuming nothing shady going on....someone who is more casual and doesnt know/understand cards sees a lot of Mickey Mantles/Babe Ruth etc in a baseball card auction on Goodwill, thinks they are striking it rich, like one of those mythical yard-sale finds.

First guess would be a newbie collector who doesn't know most of that stuff is pretty low-end. The eTopps Ichiro RC is not junk but still only $150 or so.

Etopps is probably the last thing the high bidder was looking at. Babe Ruth in a screw down tho

The vast majority of goodwill auctions go for more than retail price for some reason. You can find some steals on obscure stuff sometimes though. I always look at musical instruments, and Most guitars and basses sell for much more than they are worth, plus you dont even know if they work.

Nothing about the goodwill auctions make any sense any more.
I believe people are using it as a way to launder money or something.
I saw a box of open Diamond Kings last year on there for a sealed box that could have been had easily at the same time for like $20 on Target....Was going for near $50. And this box was opened.
It made no sense.
Something else is at play.

I have a dumb question.

Are all goodwill auctions donations or estate type sales? Or can dishonest people consign lots with reprint cards hoping newbies will bid high and make a nice profit doing that?

I think it’s a tax write off too, right? It can be considered a donation since it’s through Goodwill.

When you purchase an item on shopgoodwill.com you are paying fair market value for the item, therefore purchases made through shopgoodwill.com are not tax deductible.

The cards are donations so it's not really consignment.
