Even though the copyright on the back says 2005, it shows him in a pro uniform, and talks about his 2004-05 college season, this Finest card seems to be consistently labeled as 2004 by the TPG. What's going on here? Is this in fact his "real" rookie card not all the 2005 offerings?

Topps Finest did XRCs of the following year's rookie crop. It was redemption form in which you would pull a lottery pick number to redeem in packs.

Ah ok got it. But shouldn't the date reflect when the card was issued, not the form used to obtain it?

The card was issued AFTER THE DRAFT which would be 2005. So it technically is correct.

Thanks. Even if it was technically issued during the prior season than his other rookies, the hobby doesn't seem to care much. In baseball I think it would be a much bigger deal, see the 2021 Wander Franco thing.
Yeah, just his XRC. But maybe we can get 100k hours of social media influencer analysis to determine if this is his real rookie card.
