Yeah. He was probably playing at 30% effort while playing some mailman who sees this cornball event as his game 7 of the championship during his free agent year.

Unless it's in the contract, it's pretty hard to stop them. It's a free world, after all.....

It's a similar situation to how Klay got re-injured playing pickup ball while he was rehabbing.

If you're playing basketball, no matter where, when, or with whom, you run the risk of injury.....that's just the nature of sports.

The BO doctors never cease to amaze!!

"Zion is always hurt because he is fat!!"
"Ja Morant is injury prone because he is too small!!"
"Chet Holgrem is too thin and tall!!"

It doesn't matter what happens, you were too 'something' when you got injured and everyone knew it was coming. Give me a break.

Yeah, but he was playing in a game that had to be cancelled before the half because the court was wet. They should be a little smarter with what they’re doing in the offseason.

Exactly, boggles my mind how they let them play in these bogus games. I mean they keep people out of summer league game but let them go play on high-school court in a rinky dink gymnasium against regular Joe's giving it 10000%

Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Big man with foot injury. Shocking! I am disappointed because I was genuinely excited to see him play this year. This doesn’t bode well for his career because most players his size never come back from the first major foot injury. Hopefully he has a good outcome

Is it just Me, or does the Thunder deserve some of the blame? —- allowing their prized possession Rookie to play in a meaningless game, where of course he got hurt and he’s out for an entire Season ( that is, assuming they had some say in it? )

No. Its not a game of blame, its life. Chet loved to play, that's to be commended. Of course he wants to play against LBJ. Sit on your backsides without meaningful comp for a few months and check how you fare

The case is there to be made that these young stars are getting valuable experience against high level talent and that’s why it’s worth it to play. You figure they aren’t going 100%. If you watch the play it was very freakish, lebron didn’t land on the foot it’s almost like the injury was on contact while in the air on what was otherwise a fairly mundane play.

It's not about the f'n pickup game.....

Injuries are not random rolls of the dice. They are the result of structural deficiencies. Chet's makeup would have led him to a similar injury sooner or later..... maybe in a similar context: trying to tie up or strip the ball from a guy 10x stronger while moving in an irregular movement pattern on a fast break.

Maybe instead of a pickup game, the Thunder should have had Chad on a full time, high calorie, intensive weight room training plan —- just a thought

Players play? I mean how else is he going to get better?

The kid could torn any muscle playing low intensity basketball during practice in OKC. Heck, Ben Simmons broke his foot during a scrimmage at a training camp. Zion broke something last season and he wasn’t even playing from my understanding. The amount of players suffering injuries during training camp or doing a routine move are endless.

Come on guys.

I'm not so sure...

the only thing some investors seem to like more than a prospect who is playing well is a prospect that *could* play well.

A Chet Holmgrem not yet to play does a lot better in the market than a Chet Holmgren who plays and doesn't set the world on fire (which I doubt he would).

I feel like this actually plays perfectly into the Thunder's timetable. They were going to tank this year anyway. Chet was always a long-term boom or bust project, and now he has more time to develop without getting beat down by grown men that weigh 50-60 lbs more than he does. Plus if this pushes out his development, it theoretically just makes him cheaper to resign for his prime years, and as people have already mentioned, the Thunder aren't winning anything for the next few years anyways.

Yup, I saw the headline with Chet and saw Lebron's name...and just shook my head.......LeBron is power forward size with the speed and agility of a guard....that's like taking a 6 year old youth football player with their little bobble helmets and sending them on defense against a HS varsity team.

Long enough to cash in on a few more of the 50 picks they have over the next few years. What's the alternative? Unless they can somehow trade a bunch of their picks for at least 2 star players, their ceiling is they become a good middle market team that's competing for the last playoff spot every year.

Now we white people have to hang our hopes on Walker Kessler. He’s big and slow and safe.

With a name like Walker Kessler, he checks the slow and white boxes, but not the Euro and sorcerer boxes. I guess sometimes ya got what ya got.

Kessler's athleticism is underrated. Unfortunately, he's a poor 3PT and FT shooter.

Big guy starting off his career with bad feet? Ehhhh I think I’d be less worried if he blew out his acl… bad feet on big guys is a bad combo

Since he was also drafted by the Thunder, I'm gonna say Robert Swift.
