Correct, he'll break the case live and make a list consisting of each of the auto cards in the 30-pack, the invitation, the cut auto, the three other 1/1s, and the base card set. Then he'll randomize that list and also the list of spots people bought, stick the two next to each other, and you get what your spot(s) lined up next to.

Minor funkiness (assuming the checklist is correct), probably not even notable to anyone who isn't trying to put together a full auto set (and how many of us are that crazy?) -

The base auto set includes 42 names. The image variation auto set includes only 41. This is because Roderick Arias is in the base set but not the image variation set. HOWEVER - that's not the only difference. Danny De Andrade also appears in only the base set, while Denzer Guzman appears only in the image variation set. (Note to any Danny De Andrade fan - the base auto set is his only appearance in the set, he doesn't appear in the base cards or any of the 'special' autos.)

No difference between the 50 players in the base set and the base image variation set.

Yeah, the autos come with a base of /20 and in five parallels:

Blue – /10
Emerald – /5
Platinum – 1/1
Red – 1/1
Rose Gold – 1/1

With 42 on the 'base' checklist and 41 on the 'image variation' checklist that's a total of 3,154 autos. 30 per box, so after 100 cases that leaves 154 held back that they could use as damage replacements or give out at the party (or put in silver packs the next time they screw up Chrome, lol).
