Always enjoy Court Kings, one of my favorite Panini sets. Interested to see if the checklist has some inserts of Timberwolves players (Ant / KG) for me to go after. Aurora looks cool this year. Curious to see more of the Water Color and Paint by Number cards, the Ja Water Color doesn't do much for me but maybe some of the other players look a bit better, I like the concept of it.

I love it, but my only complaint is the canvas design of the cards lends itself to some really poor condition to so many cards right out the gate. 90% of the chase cards I've gotten have atrocious amounts of white on the edges and corners right out of the packs.

You're lucky if youre in 8.5-9 range condition-wise for designs with dark borders.

I actually didn’t mind last years Aurora too much and thought it was better than 2020. I like 2019 the best personally.

2019-20 Aurora was the best IMO.
We need the boxtoppers back! I don't know why but we do :)
This stuff just feels like they don't put time or effort into it anymore. More and more cards just look like instagram filters. Then when they actually hit on a design that people like (Blank Slate, Level 4 rookies, Aurora, Le Cinque Piu Pelle) they are so ridiculously hard to hit that I don't bother chasing them.

My favorite set of the year. I think they usually do a nice job on 2-3 of the rookie levels. They pretty consistently miss on one, take last year's Level IIs for example.

Really disappointing and probably means that Revolution (which also look to be on-card in the mock-ups) will be stickers as well.

Agreed, but I couldn't help myself and having my LCS folks ship me a couple boxes. Not at that price though, lol. $185/box I figure is worth the risk.

Yeah I got one box pretty cheap to rip, but I’m really bummed about the false advertising by Panini. They knew what they were doing with those mock-ups by making them look like they’re on card. I have zero faith in Revolution now, those are almost certainly going to be stickers again.

Yeah, the sticker autos on Fresh Paint are horrible but the design on them is also way too busy. Even worse in hand that in a pic.

The level IV rookies.... wow, those are really amazing looking in hand.

What differentiates the different numbered versions of First Steps? I see some called Red or Violet on eBay with various numbering but can’t see any difference other than the numbering.

The foil color on the front of the card matches the parallel color. It’s tough to see on some of the First Steps cards because those are so busy, and there’s not a whole lot of foil on those anyway, so it can blend in to the background, especially in photos online. You can see it better in person.

And I just ripped the one box I got today. Hot garbage.

The thing about level IV that bugs me this year is the use of different background colours. This Agbaji (https://ebay.us/VcVdBQ) looks incredible while this Murray (https://ebay.us/WfJNsx) looks a little less exciting.

I think there's also a little too much stylistic overlap between Court Kings and Origins to be released so close to each other.

Very true on the Agbaji and Murray. They look like they could be from different sets.

I haven't watched as many cases being opened as in past years, but one noticeable change is that Level IV's don't seem like a case hit any more - I've seen several cases where the highest Level pulled was III. Anyone else notice this?

To be honest I've seen this in previous years too. Also cases with more than one Level IV.

It seemed like in past years you saw 2 case hits - generally 1 Level IV and 1 Aurora etc. Sometimes you had 2 Level IV and no Aurora etc and vica versa. This year it seems like you still get the Aurora etc every case but Level IV is not a given. fwiw

The foil on the front of the card may be slightly different than a base card too, but I do not have a base card from this years product to compare.

From what I've watched online of breaks, these are relatively rare, coming in at approx. 1-2 per case. Over time I'm sure they will become hard to find considering it's only on the 67 base cards and would be a "hit" from a pack. The fun part about this... is the breakers and people selling singles seemingly have no idea and are just passing them off as base cards.

I pulled a Level I of Dalen Terry out of a CK blaster, and the stamped foil is silver, not gold like all of the regular Level I rookies. Are there rookie artist proofs? There's no "artist proof" lettering on the back like the base artist proofs, which also have silver foil.

I think those get labeled as "international" on grading flips. blaster is international and silver, hobby is gold
