Hi all.

Not really a soccer guy, but got this one last night.

2022 In The Game Used Sports Emerald Edition Karim Benzema Jumbo Patch numbered 1/1.

Any thoughts on value?

Thanks in advance.

Best guess unfortunately is $100-125 given that it's leaf.

Three figures seems very high considering it's Leaf, no team name or image of player, and even Karim Benzema's mom has never heard of Karim Benzema.

You are in the soccer forum and you think people have never heard of Benzema?

Listed for $2k. Guess you just put an arbitrary high figure to just solicit offers? I can't see it being anywhere close to that, but regardless, good luck to you sir!

$2,000 for perhaps the ugliest card in soccer card history

I mean, it could work

Yes, I had no idea what to put it up at, so I chose to go high and see what happens.
I didn't really get much help asking here.
I would hope a 1/1 sells for more than $100.
Not sure how popular of a player he is, but even a nobody 1/1 should be more than $100 in my eyes.
We shall see.
I assume less than 5% of the Ebay community is on this board, so maybe there are Leaf lovers out there somewhere.
So far a few people watching, but no offers.

Problem is, Benzema has 1/1 Leaf autos that aren't even fetching $150, or even $100 in some cases, since in addition to the licensing issues and ugly designs, Leaf also issues loads of 1/1 versions, watering down the value of each. Your patch is large, fairly unique looking, and is game-used so maybe that will help boost it, but I think my range given is where it likely ends up. I wouldn't expect any more than $150.

If you get circa $100+ I'd be pretty happy OP.

I can tell you however, it's from the 2018/19 season, the year they got knocked out of the CL by Ajax in the round of 16.

In its defense, I would say that there are not that many game used patches for soccer anymore. Anything nowadays is either player worn or even not associated.

I like to collect game used patches (even ugly ones) but try to stay away from player worn and below. I think it's cool to own what someone wore in a game. I think low 100s is a fair price for this.

the thing with "game used" though is that they can still get around using unworn shirts, a player having it as his spare on match day would technically pass as "game used".

branching the topic a little, if a patch is "game used" the card should state clearly which game it's from, unless of course, they have absolutely no idea.

It was a joke, son. :D

It may be true that folks have heard of Benzema, but the hobby has never heard of him.

that's not really something to brag about either, and just shows how feeble the hobby is when it comes to soccer with North American collectors

You're not wrong about the sport's collecting base being shallow, but then again this particular guy's unpopularity could also be a result of his sex scandals and crap reputation.

I don’t disagree with the sport’s collecting base being shallow comment. However, that is specific to North America and to cards / stickers. Globally, football (aka soccer) memorabilia has a robust history and, given its reach, a diversity and richness that leaves baseball, hockey and nfl standing still.

Idiotic comparison. Arguing just to argue.
