If this was an NFL product, it would make sense. They'd be rookies. But this is a college product and all of these guys are Juniors and Seniors—they're experienced veterans in the college game. It makes no sense.

I'm a hard pass. Bowman U/BUC was interesting as the first non-Panini product by Topps. I might do BUC next year but after that all funds will be saved for NFL-licensed Topps Finest.

Once again, a 100 player set, so much easier to get good hits as opposed to wading thru a 400 card base set.
The rarest hits seem to be the 'Constellation of Greatness' (1 in every 4 cases)they offer base autos and 1/1 superrefractors.

Also rare are the Dual Chrome Autographs (#/25) and Triple Chrome Autographs (#/15). Can you imagine pulling the triple auto Young/Stroud/Caleb- that may be the product hit

LCS got this in today, and I tried 1 box. Both autos look like they have blue ink on the back? I'm wondering if this will be an issue with other autos. Two cases ripped. One was absolutely atrocious. Probably the worst case in terms of quality I’ve EVER ripped. Best auto was probably Xavier Worthy. That’s saying a ton.

Second case was much better. Highlights were Gold lava autos of BOTH Will Anderson and Bijan Robinson, base auto of Will Levis, and a Constellations of Greatness SSP (1 in 4 cases, but unfortunately my pull was Kelee Ringo and not a big boy name)

In 2 cases (16 boxes) average was 2 numbered non-auto per full master box (2 mini boxes). In rare cases there may have been an additional numbered insert as well. But 2 on the nose almost every box

You hit the nail on the head why this product is a notch below BUC. You can get autos of most of those guys, but only through low numbered inserts so those top end autos are a MUCH tougher pull and you end up with cases like the one I ripped yesterday where I’m deciding if Sam Hartman or Xavier Worthy was the best auto

I will speculate print run is absolutely less with this product than BUC. For one, there’s no retail. For another, some of the inserts and autos of some of the top end guys are much harder pulls.

TBD how lower print run effects value of you do pull something big here but also interesting there’s no “1st Bowman” or “RC” stamp on any of the base cards. Wonder if that will have negative impact but if you went strictly off print run cards in this “should” be a bit more value than similar cards in BUC

Lack of retail releases and the fact it was just released I think are holding prices higher right now. I have a few boxes arriving today, I'll give them a rip for the draft here.

If people continue to see a lack of big names autos hit, I could see the prices finally dropping.

Did Topps change their philosophy on pricing recently? I always thought it was cheaper to order directly from Topps, however I got both BUC and BBU cheaper per a box on pre-order this time.

Honestly, I do get the argument to some degree. It is really apples and oranges here, licensed vs unlicensed. But for the say $130 or so BBU you get 2 autos. The odds of hitting a 'big name' auto seem fairly long right now for a non-retail product. Leaf Draft Retail (I know, I know), for $120 you can get 12 Autos when it released. Yes, it's not licensed, yes, I understand the quality. We still would need to see a checklist, but if it is half decent, there is something to be said for 6x the autos. I have to admit, I have plenty of leaf metal draft from 2022. Some of the cards are actually pretty nice. I am a fan of the State Pride ones for sure. Even Metal Draft this year, you will probably be able to grab a 5 auto box for $100 or so. Lower ceiling, but it might be better odds of pulling a big name auto.

Based on some basic math I did involving the rarest case hits for both products and there stated odds it seems that about 5700 hobby cases of chrome university were made and 8600 of bowman's best where made. Given that Best has less boxes per case it seems that both had approximately the same print run for hobby, with the big difference being that Chrome also had a large production of retail boxes as well.

Opened my single box today, and hit a Bryce young auto /50. Unfortunately it has a giant print line on it, so may need to send it in to Topps for a replacement. Definitely seemed like a lot of cards from this set had printing issues on them.

Print lines/roller marks are the usual Bowman's Best issue but these actually seem better than baseball with that. My first pack I got 1 each of the Bama OL Latham. I'm staring at them trying to figure out why one was numbered and the other wasn't. Cardboard Connection listed the unnumbered as Shimmers, but it isn't a Shimmer pattern. Then I saw someone listed them as Speckles and that made more sense. The Speckles are more like dots, and the Mini Diamonds are more like squares and other shapes. They even have the same color pattern in them, it's really dumb how similar they are

They are prospect cards, therefore no RC. Panini does have RC logos, but it's after they are drafted

I do, and I realize that this is probably an outlier case from the reviews I've heard. If given the option of another case of this or BU or BUC, I wouldn't choose Best.

Just wanted to give a little hope given all of the less than stellar comments here (including my own). We opened 3 Master boxes (6 mini boxes) for the draft this weekend and did really well (see below). I realize we beat the odds here, but it is possible to land some good hits. My other Auto's were a Ojilari, Rakim Jarrett and Jordan Addison 'Neon' to /99.

I have no clue what to ask for the Graham Mertz :)

Just wanted to give a little hope given all of the less than stellar comments here (including my own). We opened 3 Master boxes (6 mini boxes) for the draft this weekend and did really well (see below). I realize we beat the odds here, but it is possible to land some good hits. My other Auto's were a Ojilari, Rakim Jarrett and Jordan Addison 'Neon' to /99.

I have no clue what to ask for the Graham Mertz :)

A recent triple of Mahomes, Trubisky and Watson sold for $3000.

We know Trubisky sucks, and Watson remains to be seen as to whether he is a flash in the pan, and yet this card still sold for $3000.
Caleb Williams is supposed to be a generational QB and if he blows up and either Bryce or CJ does too, I think these cards could be future Gold

And how much college product was avail when Aaron Rodgers was a rookie, or Brady, or Manning? You mean to tell me that if there was a triple auto of Brady or Manning with some other half way decent QB and a 3rd total bust player that the card wouldn't be worth some $$$? This debate has been ongoing for a while college vs pro, and a lot of people are really embracing these college cards. They seem to be a hit.

All I am saying is if 2 of 3 the 3 players on that card wind up with huge careers you will appreciate that card down the line, even if the 3rd guy fades into oblivian

All trio or dual autos will not pan out. But if you have a dual or triple of players that do pan out then it's a good thing.

Of course they will. But these aren't products most here are holding. Nearly all of us who have been buying the Bowman products have been selling everything, except for a few people who are holding guys who might be future college stars, like Drew Allar and JJ McCarthy, and people holding Caleb Williams in advance of next year's draft I guess.

we don't know if cj stroud or bryce young will sign for panini. They have yet to sign any nfl stuff since the draft. only "rc" auto you can get is a topps now card

I think people are going to get a real surprise on this one, in particular the Chrome release (not Bowman's Best). The checklist was basically their attempt to fill out a college "all-star" list from the major universities; while there was obviously some whiffs that checklist overall is an absolute banger. The team licensing/logos on the cards (instead of airbrushed garbage), particularly combined with the "1st Bowman" makes ALL the difference to a lot of people, myself included. Many of the second year Chrome cards (with logos) already go for significantly more than the awful unlicensed design from last year.

Check out some of the Facebook groups that have sprung up around this product if you don't believe me. And Fanatics isn't gonna slow down; University Chrome Basketball and University Inception are both on their way. It isn't an accident that this year's design is the same as the regular Bowman Baseball release, and that they're ramping up these releases in anticipation of the 12 team CFB playoff that's coming in 2024. Bowman University isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

But who knows? Let's revisit this a year from now, shall we? :)
