Pack Searchers and eBay... [Archive]

All this talk about pack searching has me thinking about pack searchers using ebay.

i was browsing through ebay earlier tonight and found some sellers who were selling not only loose packs, but loose mini boxes as well.

are all people who do that pack searchers? no. but selling loose packs and mini boxes along with hits of cards from those same products is very telling....very suspicious.

just my 2 cents.

When it comes down to it on e-Bay...you run into not just pack searchers, but resealers as well. I've just felt like taking a chance and bought those 'hot packs' and while I've never hit anything big, I do get the hits and 99% of the time, nothing all that great.

Captain, if you ever have doubts just email the seller and ask what the sealed packs and/or mini boxes weigh :)

LOL. brutal. i mean... some people are pretty slick about it... but others .. its just painfully obvious there is something shady going on.

esp when they sell packs from a box and NOWHERE on the ebay listing do you see the phrase, "PACKS WILL BE FROM A SEALED BOX"... ordo you see #of packs available (which, when you add to the # of packs that have been sold, should equal the # of packs in a sealed box!)

When I was just getting back into collecting I did an ebay search for "hot packs." I ended up winning one for $.99 and got a Willie Parker GU /99. I think that most of the packs you see for sale on ebay are guys that search them in stores, in hopes of selling them for $10+ (which is what a lot of them go for). I doubt that I will ever buy one again, as I don't agree with the way they go about finding these "hot packs."

boy capt. I hope no sellers here pull that kind of crap. I would be hella pissed and file a SNAD item if I buy an item and dont get the pull I was expecting..

I took a chance two times on some reasonably priced hot packs and one seller I suspected resealing them just because out of the five packs I pulled the worst junk you could imagine. I don't know if the pulls from retail are that bad, but suspect foul play. The other was a guaranteed auto pack, I took a chance because of the low bid price and got a auto that I didn't have from Allen and Ginter.

some resealers are even dumb enough to buy a "Hit" (Say a Blue refractor AUTO)on Ebay ....
Then use the same ID that they sell with saying garaunteed Blue Auto refractor pack, so you can see what is already going to be in the pack by looking at thier bid history

when i was busting cases several years ago i use to search my packs & weigh them on a scale & the packs i could not use i sold on ebay in 5000 count boxes & i was one of a few who let people know they are striped & i still got close to $1.00 to 1.50 a pack for them

at what it cost to rip a case today dont you think its worth it to do so if your honest about it you can recoup some of your money on the case , now granted these packs are good for inserts & rookies only so its not all bad

also i can buy loose packs from wholesales all the time for 0.25 to 0.50 each & they are not picked clean

Check it out. In 2005-06, I opened about five cases of every hockey product and kept five sealed and sold them as wax at shows. At the end of the year, I had a batch of singles and a batch of packs left over. If I sell both on eBay at the same time, that makes me a thief :mad:

Grow up people. Its up to the seller how they want to sell their product and no one should be required to take a financial hit simply because some insecure message board trolls don't like it.

If you don't trust the product, do not buy it, BUT DON'T YOU DARE DENEGRATE A SELLER WHO IS JUST TRYING TO SELL THEIR PRODUCT AND MAKE THE TINY BIT OF PROFIT THAT IS LEFT IN THIS BUSINESS!

Most sellers selling "Hot Packs" On ebay are resealers. There are a couple guys around my area who do it, and they seem to get away with it.

the guys on ebay selling hot packs are opening the packs & placing cards back in them with a crapy jersey or auto & then re seal them if you own a vacum sealer you can do it with no problum ..

I can attest to this. I proved it to Ebay a couple of years ago, and they did nothing about it. These guys will get away with it forever it seems.

have not had a problem with "hot packs" although i have not seen anything or heard of anything big from hotpacks. sometimes i think that the price some of the hotpacks go for i would just buy a box

If by "have not had a problem with 'hot packs'" you mean you always got a hit, that isn't the issue. The problem is the hits are always terrible, and even funnier, a friend will win an auction and post that he/she pulled a megahit in the feedback to make it all seem legit. I almost wanted to say I pulled a 1k+ card when I got scammed by this #@#@#@#@ the first and only time it happened to me in a ten-pack lot two years ago, but then I realized it would only help the seller and not make him feel bad at all because they know exactly what is being sent to the buyer.
