Who had a more disappointing 2022-23 season?

Luka or Giannis?

One didn’t make it to the play-in and the other got eliminated (as the 1st seed) by a play-in team in the 1st round.

Equally disappointing. But the Mavs will end up with a top 10 pick barring a lottery disaster, while the Bucks get nothing for their efforts.

This was the year of the disappointment.

I’ll take luka as the more disappointing..in that top 10 (Sans victor) no one will be as good as kyrie so this season was a waste.. Luka isn’t that player that lot of people think he is ..still early tho I guess .Giannis on the other hand..ain’t no shame in losing to that boy Jimmy, he was possessed in that series .

Should have added Zion to the list

Maybe because the game was just last night...but I'm going to say Giannis.

Initially, I would say Luka but more so because the Mavs as a whole themselves were the disappointment with not making the play-in/playoffs, going all in on the Kyrie trade, not being able to retain Brunson, etc.

The Bucks losing Game 1 and Giannis injury was a dead giveaway that they were gonna be in trouble. Granted Giannis was injured earlier in the series, but to blow a double digit lead and shoot 40% from the FT line and lose the series on your home floor...pretty bad!

You make a great point.

Not to mention, the Bucks were expected to make it to the EC Finals (and I'm sure many expected them to win the CHIP this year too).

This was the year of the disappointment.

Haha, for me, the playoffs have been quite exciting.

Should have added Zion to the list

Nah but I think I should've added the Cleveland Cavaliers haha.

The expectations before the season were heavier on Giannis - the bucks were expected to contend and win a title.

Luka was simply expected to have great offensive numbers, but everyone knew the Mavs were going to be a train wreck already.

it close to no difference but i would have to say luka. mavs made the wcf finals last year and failed to make the playoffs this year adding one of the best guards in the league. thats worse then getting upset in the first round imo. obviously the mavs needed better defense instead of kyrie but they should at least make the playoffs or play in games with luka and kyrie.

Great point as well.

Though their roster changed since last year's playoffs, it's certainly disappointing going from WCF Finals to no playoffs (or play-in).

Really? Anyone that's expecting anything out of Zion at this point, is just delusional.

So when is "this point"? Will there ever be that point? Nevertheless, I was dissapointed, that Zion didn't stay healthy. It was quite a pleasure watching him.

Its already happened. He will never be what everyone was so hyped for.

Guys, it's Luka vs Giannis, not Bucks vs Mavs.

Giannis is gonna end up in the Top 3 in MVP voting, got injured and didn't play in over 50% of a series his team lost in the 1st round. Horrible, disappointing showing but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Luka is making 1st All-NBA almost by default but the team couldn't even make the play-in and is a fringe playoff team (at best) entering next season.

Giannis had a bad week, Luka had a miserable year. I don’t think this debate is close. Maybe because I’m a Suns fan and it’s all we have, but I take pride in the handful of regular season wins titles the Suns have.

ESPN predicted the Mavs to have 48 wins.

Multiple sites had them as the 7 or 8 seed.

I don't know that those are train wrecks situations. 48 wins puts them in 3rd in the West this year. Something like 7-18 in the last 25 games of the season.

given the support staff on each team, I think Luka/Mavs was expected to at least make a playoff or play-in spot, and Giannis/Bucks to make it past round 1 of the playoffs.

The players/teams are aiming at winning rings ultimately, and Giannis missing nearly 3 games to injury at this crucial point, and missing so many FTs, says something about his reliability. In the past he hasn't been this disappointing in this regard. For the 91 minutes he was available for round 1, his BPM was 2, kinda atrocious by his standards, perhaps he was playing hurt? (something something warming/icing his back on the bench...)

in the MVP thread I predicted that Luka and Giannis would be MVP finalists and Giannis would get the trophy. Both disappointed there. Well, except for Giannis being an MVP finalist but did he definitely earn that third place vote over Tatum? (i remember splitting my vote there, 4 ballot points apiece)

Both Giannis and Luka are over rated stiffs. Card guys have been declaring these 2 guys to win every chip since since 2018. They fail just about every year except 1. I mean its possible to luck out here and there right!! :D:D

Giannis and its not close. He won ONE playoff game as a guy a few voters picked for MVP as the title fave with HCA.

I went with Luka. Poor attitude and completely missed the Playoffs when he was the favourite for MVP.

Giannis got injured and they got a rough match up vs a team that's looked awful all season but has made a deep run in the past.

Rough way to go out.

It's not like they got to play a chump team like the Nets that had no place being there.

Zero*

He was on the bench in the only game Milwaukee won. I had the Bucks winning the title and view Giannis as the best player in the league. I don’t have nearly the same opinion of Luka.

My answer is Giannis.

Close, but I'd say Lululemon...simply because seemingly nothing went right for him and the Mavs during the regular season.

Bucks had another epic regular season with usual expected domination, but had a catastrophic meltdown when people least expected it.

On an individual level, both were frontrunners for MVP as the season began. One's season went consistently downhill over the regular season in this regard, the other was still in the MVP leaders ranks at season's end, and had a rapid fall over the course of a few post-season games.

If so many people weren't so heavily into Luka cards, the sentiment would be much more one-sided here. Just completely underwhelming.

The Mavs were never a real contender. Missing the playoffs is bad but they were at best a second round playoff team after overachieving the previous year.

Milwaukee was a clear cut championship favorite. To throwaway a complete season the way they did at the end is gut wrenching and will be hard to recover from as the team gets older and more expensive without many avenues to get better

Are people really acting like Giannis wasn't injured from 11 mins in to the first game? Haha. Good grief.

Giannis too injured to play but comes back a couple of days later with 26-13 and 38-20 outings?

Sounds more like very bad load management to me.

I'd say Luka because Giannis missed 2/5 games of the Heat series. If he were healthy the bucks probably would've won or at the very least taken them to 7 games.

the mvpiid? he's like a 86 percent FT shooter, a big reason for his being mvpiid.

metrics might lie but they don;t lie that badly, and Giannis's metrics suffer from not being much of a shooter from distance (including the FT distance)

(should be a standard comic refrain in sports)

A geologist, physicist and an economist are marooned on a desert island with nothing to eat.
A can of soup washes ashore. They ponder how to open it. The geologist says, ‘Let’s smash it open with a rock.’ The physicist says, ‘Let’s heat it up and blow it open.’ The economist says, ‘No, no. You guys will lose most of the soup. Let’s just assume we have a can opener.’
