The players they have listed look to include most of the top talent coming into the NBA or in the women's game.

Being all Chrome and with the college license, are huge additions to this year as well.

I just hope they don't print this to the moon, but I think they might. Prices are all over the board so far on this. I have seen as cheap as $150 a box & as much as $225.

Caitlin Clark Sports Illustrated cards are selling really well. Her Superfractor auto might sell for the price of a decent car.
It will set the record for the highest selling women's basketball card ever IMO.

Has there been a football or basketball hobby product priced a decent amount over MSRP that the big 3 have had the lowest presale price recently? Has there even been 1 released in the last 2 years 1 of them has had the lowest price on? My guess is no.

You can get this product for $150, however Blowout is currently much higher than this at around $200. This is probably a strategy to make a few high sales now and then have a bunch at release when they believe demand will be higher and prices will go up for a short amount of time.
I think prices will then fall back down when the big cards are hit and/or once other products are released.

Yeah I would stay away from retail for this product, unless hobby gets over $250 a box. With how much they are printing of this (70,000 hobby boxes is my estimation), I hope it doesn't.
The autos and numbered parallels will be where the value is for this product & hobby should be easier to hit.
If sites start discounting retail to $20 or less down the road, then I could see buying that to put together sets and pink parallel sets.

If blaster boxes got cheaper and/or hobby got more expensive and it then became 8 to 1 or even 10 to 1, then I would go with retail.

Personally, this price point feels too degen to chase Wemby and Caitlin Clark to a lesser extent when you’re most likely going to get 2 Julian Strawther level auto, a couple of # with a Jaime Jaquez type being the best name and a Cam Whitmore base refractor.

Packman did a video of opening packs until he pulled one. It was hard to see exactly which case he was on when he finally did, but it was somewhere in the case 5 -7 range

I am hoping that Topps puts out a checklist by the end of this week.

I think you may be jumping the gun on calling this a SP. It's not listed as being a SP, but rather "Base Extended Set". I think it's very possible that this is just another base card.

And that takes me to what we are seeing here. It's pretty obvious to me that Wemby was signed after the product was finalized. The base set checklist, the insert checklists, etc were already done and finalized. They added the "base extended set" Wemby to get him in to the base CL, but parallels are listed as TBA. I'm 50/50 as to whether I expect parallels. The Wemby's were clearly added after the product was finalized IMO.

We'll see if the Wemby base is SP, or if it's found as often as the other base. That is a rather large deal IMO. It's unfortunate that Wemby isn't in any insert sets - for people that are looking at opening cases (like me) that is a lot of value that could've been included. It also means that there aren't any insert (or insert autos) of Wemby - so like Inception, those are missed opportunities for more value.

I'm disappointed that they used the Scoot base card in the mock ups, yet he doesn't have a base. I'm assuming that this is much like the Wemby situation, where the deal with Scoot wasn't finalized until it was too late. But again, missed opportunity with Scoot base and parallels. And extremely misleading imagery used on the promotional stuff (which to me is ridiculous - they knew Scoot wasn't going to have a base card).

We'll have to see how often the Victor base cards hit. I've been waiting for the checklist to drop to determine if I'll be opening any cases, and if so how many. I was expecting to go really hard after this product right away, even with prices much higher for boxes/cases than we've seen with previous Bowman U products.

After reviewing the checklist, I'm very much in the "wait and see" camp. There is too much uncertainty with the checklist that Topps released. Current prices for boxes/cases have the Wemby value baked in, and if the base is an SP and/or has no parallels (talking about the non auto here), it's a big hit to current prices.

I was expecting to figure out a way to get a few cases by release day, but now I will likely wait to see how box and case breaks look before jumping in.

Very disappointed in the way that Topps pushed this out to the public. And especially disappointed in the timing.

So once again we will see which site is correct.

Even if Victor and Scoot were put in late, they could of made parallels for Victor or at least had an extended or SP base for Scoot like they do for Victor!

I just hope they didn't pack these out in waves and all the Victor and Scoot cards are only in the later packaged boxes. Not sure if they still do it this way or not.

Ok, so both places have it listed as a SP, now the question is how SP'ed? I really don't want it to be harder than 1 per case. It will sell well regardless IMO.

The good news is that everyone in the base has an auto this year, unlike in the past.

Also it doesn't say that Victor or Scoot are SP autos, so hopefully they are just as easy to hit as everyone else.

Wonder if they will be an extra hit like Inception? Since they were a late addition. Hey, a boy can dream!

On the regular product page on cardboard connection it doesn’t say short print though?

Based on what I have read and calculated, you should get 2 numbered parallels per box.
1 of the 2 autos will be a parallel on average per box
& you will get 1 insert auto per case.

You will get 48 Refractors and 12 Shimmers.
Get about 930 base cards, so expect to make 8-9 sets depending on collation.

As for insert sets:
Should make 2 Skyscraping sets

It’s encouraging to see the auto checklist only has 100 names (plus wemby and scoot). That’s a pretty big deal. Obviously inception had football guys, but I was concerned that they may go to 150+ on the auto checklist, thus watering down the product.

Small sample size, but there are 8 Clark base cards so far and 1 Victor Wembanyama SP.
I wouldn't mind if those ratios hold true, that would mean he falls about 1 per case.

I went through the calculations - very nice work! Any sense of how many of the SP autos were printed? I didn't know if they show up in pack odds or it will really come down to watching some case breaks

Also, it would seem that the volume of #'d parallels in blasters is roughly equal to the # that appear in Hobby boxes. It will be worth seeing if the SP's are fully in blasters, and what the ratio of Blaster price vs Hobby prices turns out to be.

Couldn't agree more on the base SSP for Wemby and Scoot. It's super frustrating. They could've found a way to get more of them in there.

I was super stoked about the green Wemby redemption. The green is the one he inscribed "First Card I Ever Signed" which should mean that it sells a little higher than it otherwise would have. 1 in 99 shot of hitting that card.

Outside of the base SSP thing, I thought this stuff was really well done. I am guessing my haul was among the best I could've had, but overall I was pretty happy even without the Wemby redemptions honestly.

My guess is that there are a few of his SPs and autos in the blasters, but just a handful, so odds will be nearly impossible.

Overall the Wemby auto makes it a success (combined with everything else) since I got the cases for $3,600 total. Disappointed not to get a Wemby base, those sure are SSP, and felt cheated out of a Kahuna but what can ya do. Tomorrow I will sift through the stacks and look for image variations, I believe I saw a Lively in there but was just focused on pulling out inserts and numbered cards on the first go-through and I don't know what the variations are off the top of my head.

Nah. In celebration of the upcoming 30 year anniversary of Topps' first chromium product release, they tried their very bestest to replicate a....."30 year, faded chrome card look", on a new release. :D

But in all seriousness, one would have to think that this was NOT an intended or desired result on the part of Topps' production team..?? I'd reason to guess that since Wemby was a late-addition, SSP, that perhaps whatever...."technology" and/or "ingredients" go into the chromium-effect, manufacturing process, that perhaps they simply.....ran out....of the chemicals or additives used in the process??? Because, again; I just can't reasonably accept or believe that someone in QC and/or....some high ranking Fanatics/Topps exec would see a proof copy of that Wemby card, and have the inclination to say, "Yup! That looks AWESOME!! Run 'em!"

maybe they used an alternate source to produce the Wemby cards...??


Regardless, if one of our sleuthing card-detectives were able to solve the riddle, I'd be extremely interested in hearing Topps' explanation as to why the Super Short Printed card of one of the most highly-coveted basketball players over the last 1/4 century, looks like....well,...CRAP!!

If you pull a Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller or any top prospect for this year's NBA draft, I would suggest holding them until the draft to sell. You will double the number of people looking or wanting them once we know what team they are on. It's just 18 days away, so not a long wait either.

In fairness, the "bad" list isn't bad at all. Wemby base is super tough, as I mentioned I only hit 1 in 4 cases. It's frustrating, but it jus "is what it is" imo. Big Kahuna's are 4solid hits, but it's not like they sell super well. I hit 2 Big Kahuna's in my 2 cases and it's just not a big deal in these Bowman U products. And you were lucky to hit a card /10. In my 4 cases the lowest #'d card I hit was to 10, and it was just 1 card.

There is a reason I don't buy individual boxes from eBay and certainly wouldn't buy individual packs, never know who has weighed and at least tried to take out the hits. I didn't even know places sold just packs but I'd definitely avoid that if you can help it, unless its an LCS/business you really trust.

Yep exactly, can’t trust anyone unless you buy direct at this point between weighing and Paninis whole sticker fiasco. Funny my LCS had about 4-5 cases in and what do you know an employee took home one box and miraculously pulled the only Wemby auto.

That's the question. Pretty unique hobby situation as the model has already been proven in baseball, but now we have to wait and see if this translates to other sports. I personally think this could work for basketball, as more of the top players are now coming from international and g-league routes, which are technically professional leagues, instead of college which historically carries a bit of a stigma in the hobby. It's an evolving situation but you need a catalyst for it to become a thing, and Wemby definitely has the potential to be that catalyst. The only way this could've been more perfect hobby-wise would be to somehow reach into the hs ranks and get guys like Bronny.

I don't think the question is whether Bowman will overtake Prizm, but rather will the hobby value a "first card" alongside "true RC" the way baseball does. There has never really been a consistent first-card offering for basketball and football that was available much earlier than the true RCs. Leaf tried to capitalize on that gap but obviously has a very limited ceiling due to licensing and hobby appeal. If Bowman becomes the consistent first-card offering with players getting cards in some cases 1-2 years before Prizm RC, there's absolutely potential for those to hold significant value in relation to Prizm.

I hope theyve improved their product release calendar. I dont even remember when the pre-pandemic releases were. I dont think they can ever get back to normal. If anything they might be able to get some Instant releases in July or August.

How in the world does Topps have EVERY SINGLE ORDER from Friday's release/offering....still in the "Processing" stage, yet....some Fanatics customers have already received their orders, and/or.....are expected to receive them in the next day or two...??!? It's absolutely irresponsible, careless, and a blatant..... EFF' YOU .....to the Topps customers! Especially, those unfortunate folks who chose the Overnight shipping option.

Is it conceivable that Topps oversold their hobby format, both box & case configurations....?? If we don't start to see shipping confirmations by tomorrow, my Spidey Senses are gonna' lead me to think that this might just be the issue!?! B&M shops, breakers, and virtually anybody & everybody in between, have had their product since last week!??! Yet, Topps, the manufacturer, has failed to ship-out product, direct to customer, 5 days AFTER,...a products actual street-arrival? Hmmm...?

Topps has always had notoriously slow shipping.

Read the fine print with "Overnight" shipping. It mentions nothing about handling. Once it's actually shipped out is when the "Overnight" timer starts.

I opened a full case & 1 box so far. While I didn't get a Wemby Auto, Wemby SP, Clark Auto, Clark parallel or Scoot Auto, I think I did pretty well.

The insert collation was really good, but the base was way off. While I did get 12 Caitlin Clark base cards, there were some people that I only got 2 copies of in 13 boxes!

I had 1 box that had 4 autos in it, so that was a nice surprise!

While I didn't get autos of the top 3 signers, I think I got 11 autos of the top 20 signers.

Yea, it was pretty solid. The 2nd half of case only had one Auto though, a Yellow /75, but 9 more #d cards and another Clark Pink.

So 6 Autos (3 Color) and 18 #d cards. Not bad for the price I paid during a sale.

I actually was also pretty close to making the complete pink set as well.

It is absolutely mind boggling the premium that people are fetching on the Green /99 redemption card sales. All over that one inscripted card that is likely already claimed at this point.

Call me a theorist of conspiracies,...call me "paranoid"; unless Fanatics/Topps goes ahead and does a formal, PR segment surrounding the [presuming, he exists?] lucky schlep who comes to be the possessor of the famous, "1st card I ever signed", card....I gotta' hunch that, much like you suggest (but by more dubious means & methods),....that sucker is already, looooonnnnnggggg accounted for!

Looks like the Topps orders shipped from the Fanatics warehouse in Ohio. Fanatics orders came from Florida.

Not sure why it took an extra week for the Topps orders to ship.
