Personally, I just can't imagine picking a kid like that in the lottery. It sounds like professional AAU.

Glance at them from a distance - get familiar with the names. When they hit the NBA is when they’ll have my full attention

Overtime Elite.
Never heard of it. Unless you're a rookie in the league and playing well, I dont care.

What I'm getting at is there are some players in the draft next week set to go pretty high

Some kids don't want to go to college, but need that year before draft eligible. There's the rub.

Thompson twins were probably the most famous names to make the move there. Not sure how much it helped them develop & improve their shooting which would have been huge for them.
Their opponents weren't really good either but they did at least play some better overseas teams. But if I'm a prospect I'd probably just go to G-League Ignite route.

OTE's competition is not really G-League Ignite. Some OTE players forego a salary and remain NCAA eligible (Rob Dillingham, Kanaan Carlyle, etc.). I think of its competition to be the top basketball academies (Monteverde, IMG, AZ Compass, etc.). The lines are already beginning to be blurred as Hillcrest Prep (DeAndre Ayton's old academy) and two other academies joined the OTE last season. In the long run, OTE needs to expand its number of teams (only six currently) or play more games against non-OTE, top tier HS teams.

You think people investing in the Thompson Twins are holding them? Holding them now?
From a player development standpoint, their hyped players have stagnated (Thompson twins shooting, Jean Montero facilitating) or have been forgotten (Jalen Lewis signed as a 16 yo and one of the top guys in guys in his class).
It seems to have raised the profile of a few under the radar guys like Dom Barlow but is anybody else else 2023 draft eligible going to be picked besides the Thompson twins, who could have sat on their couch for 2 years and still gotten picked in the 1st?
Meanwhile, guys like Mojave King came over from New Zealand to the G League Ignite, had a nice season and will have a shot at getting picked in the 2nd or easily getting a 2 way FA deal if undrafted.

Jaylen Martin has a good chance to get picked in the second. Jazian Gortman will probably get added to somebody's Summer League team at least. Kind of unfortunate, as he was a 5-Star player and probably had higher hopes. I think Tyler Smith (another 5-star) made a smart move to leave OTE and sign with Ignite. Could definitely see it helping his draft stock for '24.

If Mojave King doesn't get drafted, he should be a summer league darling for whatever team he plays with in Vegas.

Jean Montero was never hyped. He played really well and exceeded expectations.

Seriously, I never heard of it until now. Is OTE a league or something?

Considering there was one college player selected before both of them, should be a sign. Multiple GM’s see something in them. Players have more options out of high school now.

Yup; only one player out of the top five lottery picks played in college. The OTE & G-League looking more & more like a serious alternative to a single year in college.

If you have unquestionable NBA athleticism and some tape, the NBA will find you even if you’re not playing any basketball. Shaedon Sharpe was drafted basically on a single glorified open run Nike EBYL summer stretch and anecdotes that he was dominating UK scrimmages.
G League Ignite is better competition than college and I’m sure the NBA would love more top prospects to go that route and would surely expand that program if there is more demand.
Even if OTE and G League options expand or the age limit drops down to 18 in the future, college will always have a big role.
Guys like Brandon Miller and Gradey Dick need to prove themselves physically while doing high level S&C to get stronger and faster and others like the Murray bros need development time on a longer scale. Plus that NIL money at blue chip schools could very well exceed OTE and G League offerings.

I mean, it arguably prepares players for the league better than the NCAA and these system coaches that handcuff talented players
