Does anyone know of any companies that will insure collectibles? In particular, trading cards

Probably under a High Net Worth policy.

Reach out (to anyone) and see what they offer

Try Chubb. They have written policies in the past and can do a set limit rather than rewriting the policy every time you buy or sell a card.

Collectinsure is the answer. DO NOT use your homeowners policy thru State Farm (or whomever you have). Use a company that deals in collectibles. A company that understands your collections. Your homeowners insurance company, does not get it!

they probably do, it’s just beneficial to pretend they don’t.

Depends on the broker/underwriter.

I could adjust a card collection with minimal knowledge of cards. I'd just outsource an expert and charge the insurer.

Good luck with that lol
You’re going to trust people that don’t understand your valuables to they take those extra steps when something happens to your priceless collectibles? I’ll trust the insurance company that handles collectibles for a living and is their entire business model.

You pay experts to provide the opinion on values. They understand the valuables. You pay less through premiums.

Disagree completely

Go sit down with your agent. That’s the key

I am well insured via my homeowners policy because I sit down with her quarterly and update my PC schedule

If you put forth some effort and communicate you’ll be fine

If it works for you, fine. I started out with my insurance company until the value started rising. I decided to go with someone who specialized in collectibles and saved money. I came across Collectinsure and they give the best rates and have a good history of paying out claims. They are set up a the National.

Which is fine - I have no issue with Collectinsure - It absolutely works

I have a problem with simply emailing or calling your home insurance and trying to explain cards to them

Be prepared and go meet with them

My particular collection, which I realize is easier to quantify, is all on the PSA registry. I can run an APR report every quarter and I go and sit with my agent for 20 minutes

Homeowners insurance will absolutely cover you if you handle it correctly. I'm not commenting on rates.

So will Collectinsure. Not debating that.

1) What's their average insurance cost for $10k per trading card value?
2)What happens if the value rises dramatically or drops?
3) Do you have to list all cards that need to be insured?
4) Also is it cheaper to have trading cards stored at home or another locations ( storage)?
5) Does it cover shipping to grading companies or ebay buyers?

Trying to figure out what would be cost to insure my cards. Thanks.

As a new case, there's only one side of the story presented, but thought this might be an interesting case to follow. Deals with an alleged home theft (cards stolen from locked safe) of a multiple million dollar collection and a denied claim from the insurance company.

"The policy's annual premium was $5,942 (which later increased to $6,339) and was renewed on two occasions with the final coverage limit being $2,650,000."

$528.25 per month to insure 2.65mil in value. For those who were wondering what it costs to insure a collection of that value.

Interesting that an insurance company may issue a policy knowing that they can deny it later on any basis mentioned in this case (not authentic, not valuable, or even not stolen). Case seems to argue the ins. company didn't have these concerns and didn't ask for proof at the time of issuing the policy....ah, but that's the genius of being an insurance company. :D

(#53 here: https://trellis.law/doc/210883959/summons-complaint )

I confirmed "find in page" works on that document preview and the word "police" does not appear...as in police report, called the police, etc.

Locked safe, no sign of break in, yet they were stolen. :coffee:

You understand that if anything happens, you're likely going to have to sue them to get your money? They're an insurance company. They have lots of lawyers.

My collection is insured through Chubb. The key is to not use one of the cheap ones who advertise on television. I once spent six months grinding State Farm into smithereens when they didn't pay a claim, and I ended up getting attorneys fees for my own time as a way for them to stop me from filing a lawsuit.

Collectibles Insurance Group is underwritten by Global Indemnity Group, LLC which is a publicly traded company.

I have, I sold an Ohtani card in 2021 on Ebay for $759. Shipped it USPS, tracking said it was delivered. Buyer claimed he never got the package. I didn't believe him, but the buyer actually got USPS to admit in writing that they delivered the package to the wrong address, and it was unrecoverable. I refunded his money thru Ebay. I then opened a claim with CollectInsure, explained the whole situation to them, provided as many details as possible. They took 1-2 days to review the info, and then cut me a check.

Whole process was way smoother than I would have guessed. I assume for anything over a few grand, the process is tougher.

Is there such thing as an insurance company that isn't frequently difficult when paying out?

I have read enough good about CIG that they are as good (or as bad if preferred) as any.

No, there's not. Any company that was easy to deal with would be up to their ears in fraudulent claims.
