idk who here played Little League or not, but i did. one of the teams i played for was the White Sox. my dad was our head coach, and he loved the White Sox uniform where they wore black tops with the white pants (this is right around the time that Frank Thomas was becoming a face in the league). i remember my dad had a poster of Frank Thomas, and he did a big reveal to the team, and everybody was excited about it.

he knew we were kids, he knew we like the swag, the drip, so he went with that uniform.

however, the Little League team i loved the most as a kid, was when i played for the Indians.

Remember this is right around the time that the movie Major League and Major League 2 came out, so everybody knew about the movie. my best friend on the team used to wear those baseball long sleeve undershirts, so i started wearing them also. the red sleeves looked so awesome with the blue Cleveland shirt.

to this day, i have my uniform and baseball cap, and also, a very soft spot in my heart for Cleveland. (i hate the Guardians name btw, i liked Indians or even Naps).

i rooted for them in the series against Florida, and to this day, their stadium, Jacobs Field, The Jake, is my all-time favorite stadium.

but what about you guys, do you all still root for the Little League team you all played for?

Our teams were sponsored by local businesses, my first team was Willingham and Son's. Fast forward 30 years, guy I grew up playing ball with took over his family business and I still use Willingham and Son's to sponsor teams for the youth leagues I run.

Wish I could but I live far away from where I played baseball as a kid. And my first team was the Indians with a cap just like the MLB team. Also, I lived in WI at the time Major League was filmed at County Stadium in Milwaukee. My older brother was in the crowd for the "wild thing" song near the end of the movie, right behind the dancing girls on the dugout...

hahaha that's awesome!

yeah, they used the old Brewers stadium for the first film, and it was actually Camden Yards in Baltimore that was used for the 2nd film, not The Jake.

Pirates, Athletics, and Cardinals. I have a soft spot for all 3 but only because the history of each.

No team was allowed to be the Yankees because that would have been the team everyone wanted to be on (Central New York)

Did not know that about Milwaukee but I did know Camden was used for pt2, I’m assuming Jacobs was under construction at the time?

My youth team was the Orioles and I still have a Cal Ripken Jr. collection because of this fact.

i was in Texas, and nobody was allowed to be the Yankees or Braves.

so we had teams like the Indians, A's, Cardinals, and i think Rangers.

I was on the Reds and Phillies when I played Little League. I do not root for the MLB teams, but I still tailgate before their Little League games now.

It would be hard because I played for so many different teams as a kid. I played for the Giants, A’s, Mariners, Angels, Braves, Rangers, Mets and Padres. When I played for the A’s I pretended that I was McGwire he was and still is a favorite player of mine. I also like the Angels quite a bit, but I am a Yankee fan that never had the opportunity to play on the Yankees little league team. But my son has played on the Yankees 3 times already and he is only 7!

Being in Cleveland, it was always exciting to get to be on the Indians team. I played for them on multiple years.

The teams that I played for growing up (in the Pony system) don’t exist in the MLB world. The Civics, Lions, Colts, and Palominos in Elm Grove (Wheeling, WV) are still extant and thriving though.

I wonder if there was a “thing” with thing with Pony baseball not being able to use MLB team names in the 80s, but there were none where I grew up

Orioles for 2 years, Pirates, then Cubs, then Giants, Braves and back to Pirates.

None of these teams are in my top 5.

Made me look up Richmond Funeral home in Staten Island as they were my teams sponsor in 1971 surprisingly they are still in business but no information whether they still sponsor a team.

Teams I remember…

Reds - hell no
Marlins - not particularly
Astros x2 - hell no x2

My daughter’s softball team called themselves the “Blue Jay Devils” this year, so I guess I’d say yeah for the Blue Birds.

My team was called the Cardinals, although our shirts were navy blue. No actual uniforms, just screenprinted tees at my level. We were sponsored by the local State Farm agency. I have never used State Farm for my insurance, but I remember checking their prices a couple times. No idea if the league I played in is still around. The ball fields we played on are still there, 43-44 years later, so I assume someone's playing there.

My first little league team won the championship and I don't remember what their name was -- I think maybe the Indians, which doesn't exist anymore. My high school team also won the championship and their name was also changed due to cancel culture during the pandemic -- a current MLB starting pitcher also attended the same school.

Cancel culture has erased my baseball childhood -- brutal.

I was on the Reds almost every year. I think 1 year I was on the Yankees.

I have no idea how the teams were assigned. I think local dad coaches got together in a room with a few beers and just picked players. However it was, I guess the Reds coach either liked me or got stuck with me each year.

Hard to keep up with all of them these days for those that stick with it. So far my son has played for the Pirates, White Sox, Red Sox, Cardinals, Rangers, Bats, Emeralds, and Tin Caps. And he's still got another year to go before he hits high school ball so will likely add another.

Follow up question.

Are you still friends with anybody from your little league team or do you even remember any of your teammates. I can honestly answer no to both questions but in my defense 1971 was a long time ago.

Little league team I played for (Burlington Twins) stopped operations back in, I think, 2005. When I played there were 50+ boys at tryouts for the 15 or so places every year. It was very competitive. We even made it to the provincial semis - like 3 steps from going to Williamsport as the rep for Canada. They cancelled operations due to lack of interest. I remember reading in the newspaper - YES a newspaper! Early sign of millennial attitudes, I guess.

There is a group of about ten of us that get together every Thursday to play horseshoes. Three of us were on the same team our first year in Little League in 1977. We went undefeated that year.

Seems like I played a game or 2 in that area. I was in Southern Ohio during my baseball days. We played in WV some.

When I was in LL starting in 1978, we played for the same team the entire time.
I think it was AAA, Coast, Majors, is what they called the 3 levels.
Always the Braves.
I guess you could be "Traded". Never followed the Braves.
