I’d worry about the Marlins before you set your sights on “crushing” the Braves. No one in the NL East is catching the Braves this year, and I think it will be a bloody fight to the finish between the Marlins and Phillies for 2nd place.

He seems to come through when runs are needed a lot more than similar hitter Joey Gallo. He’s done a lot more than Turd Turner whose batting average is 57 points higher. His OBP percentage is actually 25 points higher than Turner and a few points higher than Castellanos. Having watched a lot of Gallo’s at bats last year and Schwarber this year it’s honestly not as frustrating watching Schwarber with his low batting average considering he has come through with timely hits that drive in runs when they are needed.

I felt like when I would watch Gallo it was solo HRs and if anyone was on base it was just too much pressure for him and he’d try and work a walk. Donaldson seemed like he was doing the same thing in the limited games he played this year and hitting all those HRs.

The only two runs Phillie scored on Saturday for the 2-1 victory was Schwarber’s two run home run. I guess after watching so many crappy at bats by Gallo and Donaldson and being conscious of the game situation I find Schwarber and his low batting average much less frustrating.

I don’t think people realize what Schwarber does when he’s in the batters box… For example, in yesterdays game Schwarber, who’s in the lead off spot, drew a 4 pitch walk but it made the starting pitcher throw 10 pitches to do so. This does a couple things, it wears out the pitcher both physically and mentally, it shows the entire lineup what type of pitches are being thrown, and how the pitchers are being called. Kyle did that 3 times yesterday. He drew 3 walks. And struck out twice. So even though he didn’t increase his batting average by any points, he still was a base runner in 3 plate appearances. I have a ton of respect for Kyle as a leader in the organization. IMO he is one of the least selfish ball players in the game today.

He’s your quintessential leadoff hitter. Started the year there. Thomson randomly decides to abandon it ever since.

Also wouldn’t mind seeing another reliever or a 1B-OF type (Bellinger might have been a good fit there), but at the end of the day, the vets they have just need to start hitting. The young guys have been carrying the lineup (Stott, Bohm, Marsh).

Indeed, Bohm's sphincter was a little too tight against the Braves. Sometimes your own players can get trapped by the bright lights of the Bank- doesn't always just work against opponents.

Even though Bohm’s bat has been dormant this post season, you guys have to admit, his defense has improved. No one will confuse him for Brooks Robinson, but he’a not the butcher at the hot corner he used to be.

True that. Bohm made huge improvements on defense before their playoff run last year- he really worked at it. Still nothing special, but not a liability like he used to be.

Crazy thing is, the Phillies got zero from Bohm and Schwarber offensively in the NLDS but they still managed to roll the Braves like they were a AAA team.

Castellanos is unlikely to continue his heroics, but it would not be surprising to see Bohm or Schwarbs step up as the next guy. Schwarber already hit the first pitch bomb yesterday. Hopefully we see more of that.

Pitching against AZ is almost perfect so far. Phils long ball has been amazing so far. Can they

keep it going?. Harper seems focused on winning "only" and that is a very good thing for the

I felt like after the game 1 win in Houston last year, you could only count on Schwarbs, Harper and JT against that pitching staff, this year there isn't a guy in our line up I would bet against. I mean Casty is batting 7th.....7TH!!

has arguably the best starting lineup in baseball, three or four awesome starters, some decent relievers, yet he manages to mismanage his bullpen every friggin game and yank his starters too early every game. What a buffoon:doh:

and he pulls the relievers who are pitching well out of the blue and puts in guys who are pitching like crap and keeps those guys in until they fokk up the game.

i feel bad for guys like Harper, Turner and the rest of the team who are doing everything they can to get leads only to see their manager let them down game after game.....

I hope Nola stays, but who knows really. I would think they need to focus on a SP either way, so if he goes then Snell would be a great option.

I am still hoping that Painter and Abel can have a shot at the rotation this spring. And then maybe fill other voids with homegrown talent like Carlos De La Cruz in the OF?

I like Bellinger and would love to see him in Philly as he can be a major asset in OF and 1B.
