The Pirates are now over .500 after a 4-1 victory tonight over the Dodgers. Even I am amazed at how well their pitching has held up for the first month. As bad as the Central division is, they could hang around.....

Hanny should be buying everyone dinner after dropping that toss from Walker for what should have been 2 outs.
I haven't been this excited about Pirate baseball since I was 8 ('92). I've got some serious bank coming my way if they top the 67 win mark that Vegas had them at.
Edit: Check out this stat
2010, through 35 games: 124 runs scored, 217 runs allowed
2011: 128 runs scored, 141 runs allowed.
4 more runs scored and 76 fewer runs allowed this season through 35 games, compared to 2010.
Run differential from -93 last season to -13 this season.

Calm down already. Its a month of baseball. The Reds, Cardinals, and Brewers will finish ahead of the Pirates in that order. The Reds getting Cueto and Bailey back will translate into a runaway.

If youre banking on Bailey, keep dreaming. He has a 5.02 Career ERA.

I really hope they get at or over .500. I don't know about winning the division but playing some meaningful games in August/September is a start.
Good luck Pirate fans..... (stop beating the Dodgers lol)

Being from the the other side of the state I am pulling for the Pirates to be relevant again. Phillies-Pirates was a great rivalry in the 70s-80s. Also, I need for there to be some people who are about baseball on that side of the state because I'm tired of not having a comeback to all of the Steelers and Pens fans..... bringing up the Pirates in that instance is just cruel

With this run differential they will fall back to earth soon. Just like the Royals who are 3-9 on the road.

The Pirates have absolutely no chance of hanging around the top of that division and probably will end up 5-10 games under .500 this season. Through the 1/5th mark of the season they're doing alright, but there's still 80% of a season left, and they are not a good or deep team this year. Let's see if they can refrain from completely screwing up the draft this year by taking Rendon (a guy who is maybe the tenth best prospect in this draft IF he's healthy) and if Taillon and Allie can become a true #1 and #2 starter, then in five years they have a chance of being an above .500 team for an entire season.
