Getting my son settled in at Temple and looking to try some cheesesteak sandwiches.

Which are must try places? Have a car so willing to drive if it’s worth it.

Angelo's: line out the door until close. I recommend going Cooper sharp, long hots, onions up to you.

John's Roast Pork: stopped going here since I started going to Angelo's but this is the OG best spot.

Hit up John's water ice as well.

There are a lot of good ones. The two popular ones are Dalessandros and Genos. If it is a nice day out, there will be lines out the door.

Best of luck to your son! I attended Temple my freshman year of college but ended up transferring out because I wasn’t a huge fan of the location. Great school though and the new library they have is awesome!

Dalessandro's

Steve's

Joe's

Pat's gets hate about being a tourist trap but is still really good.

Angelo's - best pizza and cheesesteak. Place your order ahead of time, walk in, pay, leave.

Dalessandro's.

John's Roast Pork.

(in order)

If it has re-opened, Jim's, 4th & South.

Have tried a bunch of other places, but always end up back at Jim's.

Guess Angelo's is newer? Don't recall it being around when I last lived in Philly around 2016. Have seen a lot of people call it their favorite though.

Can't go wrong with any suggestions ITT OP

Thanks for the recommendations!

What are your favourites at Dalessandro’s, Angelo’s, and John’s Roast pork?
Planning to try at least two places.

I've never tried their cheese steaks, but Tony Luke's chicken parm is the best. :)!

Is anyone actually ever "settled" at Temple? J/k but that seems like it would be head on a swivel 24/7.

I’m surprised you didn’t have a chicken cheesesteak.:coffee:

LOL! It’s certainly an experience, that’s for sure. There is always something going on around you (good or bad) since you are directly in the middle of Philly.

When I was a student there, I had hurt my leg playing football and got taken to the hospital via a cop car. On the way back, after getting stitched up, we took a detour and the police officer showed my roommate and I where the crack houses were.

Good times.

Go to Donkey's, in Camden NJ. A little untraditional on a poppy seed bun. Anthony Bourdain actually did an episode on it. It was my go-to for years. Extra cheese and onions, fries, and a birch beer.

Steve's Prince of Steaks is pretty good in Philly as well.

Chicken cheesesteaks are for people who teach their kid to dam up streams with sticks. :coffee:

Geno's is famous, but not really the best. But it's kinda a "bucket list" of food places so it's hard to ignore.

Jim's, that's a damn fine cheesesteak.

Tony Luke's, my personal favorite.

The one time I was in Philly I tried 3 different places

Tony Lukes (Recomended to me by somebody who lived in Philly. Also my favorite)

Jims

Chickie and Petes

Would probably rate them in that order but did change it up and had Provolone with the Jims and decided the Whiz is much better

Once you are done with cheesesteaks, head over to DiNic's at Reading Terminal to get a pork sandwich. I think it's better than any cheesesteak and you will see why Adam Richman from Man vs. Food named it the best sandwich in America.

Only been once. Tried Genos and Pats and actually preferred Pat’s. That place is dumpy…which appeals to me I guess.

I regret not trying that when I was there…Amish pretzels were good and I tried a sandwich from the place with the Obama picture

Amen to this. Dinics is incredible. Pork, Provolone and Broccoli Rabe Sandwich.

Then go to the Amish Donut store in there. Best donuts Ive ever had.

Definitely go to the Reading terminal! There are a lot of great/unique food items there.

Yeah, I was talking to my son about that sandwich at DiNic's after eating at John's Roast Pork but couldn't remember the name. Will go for sure next time.

Angelo's was good. There was no line and it took about 20mins to get the sandwiches. We just walked to Starbucks to use the restroom and got a couple of drinks. Came back and sandwich was ready. I thought it was pretty good but the beef was more chewy than what we are used to at our local joint call Amato's. The sesame bun was awesome tho!

I had the Poppop's special at John's Roast pork - roast pork with mustard and pepper flakes. Sandwich was a little bit soggey but tasty. Also liked the sesame bun. Son had the beef and said the meat was even tougher than Angelo's but he also liked it.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Next time we'll have to drive further up to Dalessandro's and also hit up DiNic's.
