What is this anyway ? Why do sellers send it to an authenticator - the autographs and cards are guaranteed as it is according to the back of the cards -- this seems like a huge time waster - anyway I refuse to buy from any seller that ships this way

This is not something sellers can opt out of. If over $250, its going through authentication. Also, just be cause on the back of a card there is wording that an autograph is authentic, doesn't guarantee it is. Cards get faked all the time.

This is more for buyer protection than seller protection even though there are benefits for both. If your buying an expensive card, why would you not want the piece of mind that it is real and doesn't have any major unnoted condition issues (which is also checked)?

Generally, it only adds a few days to the handling time anyway.

Its not the sellers choice Ebay requires it on items over a certain price. It carries over to items that sell for less if the BIN that was originally on it is over that threshold. Generally adds about 1 or 2 days to the process.

As a seller I wish the threshold was lower as a buyer I see no reason a buyer should complain about this.

It's been this way for nearly a year.

Anyone have a petulant child gif for this guy?? Where have you been the last year? Authentication is not new and I guess you have a reason you do not want things to be authenticated. I don't usually add buyers to my blocked list before they do anything, but you sir might have won first prize.

Not just for card authentication, also to check if matches description including description. Heck, also to make sure seller doesnt send a 1987 topps common and have a $5k transaction devolve into a he said/she said situation as well. Cuts down on ebay's efforts spent on arbitrating INAD cases in general.

True, if the seller says its near mint and it has a huge crease in it they will reject it. This is the main reason Eby made those item specific changes a month or so ago. I look for the threshold to actually be lowered in the near future.

I dont College cards dont hold their value and I do over spend on them but not this year. With this years, Immaculate I guess sellers of single cards are trying to recoup their losses by charging 300% markup on 3rd round draft picks, sticker autographs and fake patches etc

How can you tell he is whining in that immaculately written run-on sentence? This thread probably can be deleted as it is adding nothing to anything to anything.

That is probably the better question. Over/under 5?

If a seller lists a card as "Near mint or better", how strict are the authenticators about that?

I think they are looking for something with no obvious flaws showing wear: white corner, crease, etc. Basically something more or less you get out of a pack. Keep in mind NM is equivalent to a PSA 7….so PSA 7 or better. Are they always perfectly accurate with this? Probably not. Could a PSA 6 equivalent at times slip through? Perhaps. Or could a PSA 7 get denied? Perhaps. But I think it’s reasonable to expect what it says, PSA 7 or better. When it’s borderline they might even ask the buyer if they want to proceed, given info on condition.

Sold a card months ago and CSG in FL kicked it back saying it was not nrmt . I sent card off a month last to SGC and they gave it a 9 Mint. Short story CSG is garbage #4 or 5 in grading IMO and should stay in their lane coins and comics.

Don’t think SGC saying it’s a 9 means anything. Last SGC 9 I cracked out had a severely damaged front corner. Probably a PSA 6-7 or a BGS 8.

Yeah SGC in the past few years has seemed to slip. They are more about speed than accuracy. If I recall the card in question was a hall of fame basketball dual auto. If I am correct then I feel SGC missed that one based off the photo I recall on ebay..the listing even stated damage to it.

Thanks. I plan to send it to PSA so I'll find out.
