Getting super annoying, understandably part of it is on me for not having feedback buyer requirements set but imo, the needing a card on file to bid update can't come fast enough

You cannot block zero feedback buyers through any settings.
The card on file will create more issues than it solves. A non payers while annoying cannot cause other headaches like one I am dealing with now.
For me most zero feedback buyers pay it's tge high feedback ones that don't. Gave a strike to a buyer last night with 950

While you cant block a low feedback buyer from winning an individual listing (if it was same buyer winning multiple of your auctions, that can be prevented in buyer mananagment requirements), you can at least block buyer who have 2 nonpaid strikes in 12 months, the strictest setting. Whether that works 100% of the time is debatable, but it does work sometimes at least. I would turn that on if you are worried about nonpayers. I have these settings at strictest and I rarely get nonpayers.
Also when they do not pay, make sure you wait the whole 4 days, then cancel due to unpaid item.
Id be ok with autopay on everything, and maybe some day it'll get there. Maybe if they can just figure out the combined shipping nuances better. I actually do wish ebay would allow sellers to block a zero feedback buyer on an individual listing. I understand 'every buyer needs to start somewhere', but how about dont start off with a $1500 item as a first purchase, for example. That's the type of item, high end items, I wish that feature existed for. I wouldnt care about say <$100 items and buyers building up accounts. Whether people admit it or or not, if I see a $2000 item sold...then see the buyer is 0 feedback with an account created that day compared to say 1125 feedback, that does not create a good feeling. And I dont think it would in most others either.

It's not just the combined shipping. Buyers cannot use ebay funds or gift cards to pay. It also leads to more cancellations and returns.
It's better to have a nonpayer than a buyer who pays and is not happy about being forced to pay.
Ebay is currently saying a buyer can cancel after tgey pay and neg the seller and state in tge neg they found item cheaper. Do we need to give buyers more benefits of cancelling?

They can tweak the process a bit, maybe allowing ebay funds/gift cards to be used. As for a buyer winning an item to just cause problems and make returns, seems like it wont happen as much (and if it did happen for some buyer, their return behavior could cause issues with ebay)...Im not saying it wont happen ever, but that Im weighing things here and am fine with auto-pay. Not only ensures payment but possibly can combat shilling a bit. Also for ebay AG which includes nearly all higher end card transactions, returning is out of the question with a final sale. The auto-pay/ebay AG combo would be a great thing for sellers.

Really though non payment rate is way less than 1% of items sold. Most of mine have hundreds of feedback. Most zeros pay and never have an issue
I can say for a fact with shoes and the AG credit card chargeback can happen and can still tie up your account for up to 3 months. They treat them like any other transaction. So no reason to think ag for cards would be different

I do get a low nonpayment rate, but I also have buyer requirements on strictest and run mostly BINs and few auctions. So OP, if you dont want nonpayers, can also consider selling via more BINs. As for 0 feedback buyers, some of the few times as a seller dealing with what were potentially outright scams happened to be..lo and behold, 0 feedback buyers. And the items werent cheap either. I would prefer if ebay would let sellers block like 0-5 feedback buyers for high end listings at least. Always a possibility that 0 feedback buyer is someone circumventing a block too.
As for ebay AG, we discussed this before, but that's a non-issue for me. No returns on a final sale, have never once heard of a seller not retaining their money for an authenticated card, and it is so remote for the buyer to even attempt that (never once had it attempted against me in all my selling). I'd much rather have the auto-pay there if Im weighing between those two options.

Never said tge seller will not eventually get their money released but ebay will hold it even when seller is clearly covered.
I have one category since the autopayment on offers has been instituted cancellations are way up running around 8% almost all found better price. These are same as non payers 3 of them have left neutrals or negs. Ebay removed 2 of them but are blaming technical issues on why tge third remains

You can also limit the number of items a low feedback bidder can be highest bidder on. I set that after someone with a goose egg in the land of tulips and windmills bid on all 50 of my Pokémon one day. That killed any chance of a BIN getting hit on that bundle. That dude never did win one.
