I find all the PED discussions over the years interesting. Some care, some don't care. Obviously, the Cubs organization has no issues with it. MLB does. MLB wants to act all high and almighty, keeping those players out of the HOF, while all the time knowing it was going on. I would prefer they just let those guys in, and give them an asterisk (*) next to their name in the HOF.

The Cubs refused to recognize or associate with Sosa for years and years until the past few weeks when he released a public statement seemingly admitting to steroid use

They have completely ignored Sosa for the longest time until they forced him to apologize for taking PEDs recently. It was very petty. Sosa should not have to apologize to them. They profited immensely from his PED use.

Agree! As MLB and many others did!

Is his corked bat going to be part of the Sammy exhibit?
Didn't the Reds do the same thing for Pete too?

MLB has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame…

Oh contraire -- the MLB commissioner is on the board of directors of the Hall of Fame.

How is MLB trying to keep them out of the Hall of Fame though? They’re all on the ballot. Sosa wouldn’t have been a HOFer without his roids and bat corking anyways.

It's great to see Sammy finally getting the credit he deserves, but it's shameful that the Cubs org made him issue that public statement before acknowledging all the great things he did with/for the team.

Not trying to keep them out. They set the foundation.

Sammy made the Cubs brass a LOT of money, they owe him.
Does Sammy still have that skin issue? He looked kinda different when I last saw a picture of him.

I'm sure there was a lot of behind the scenes things that we don't fully know about that contributed to the rift between Sosa and the Cubs.
For instance, he walked out on the Cubs during a game in 2004 and apparently Kerry Wood led a group of teammates in smashing his boombox. Or something.
Basically, it goes beyond the steroids. I wouldn't be surprised if past Cubs who were teammates with Sosa had something to do with this behind the scenes.
It's always more than what's just on the surface.

I will always remember seeing video of him running out into centerfield with an American flag

Yeah, I think he has the Michael Jackson vitiligo, which, like Michael Jackson, he may have tried to treat (with poor results)

Also deflects from the lack of FA’s that the Cubs want to sign.

The cubs hall of fame is 8x11 plaques nailed to bricks in a hallway underneath the bleachers. Unless you have a bleacher ticket on a gameday you have no access to it and you could walk by it and think it was no big deal. Shawon Dunston is in it.
What it means for his memorabilia is unknown. I don't think they will give him a statue as so far they've only given those to hof caray sandberg williams banks jenkins and presumably eventually the 2016 team.

Sosa being embraced by the Cubs again and part of official team events should help boost his popularity.
People will forget the controversies over time and want to remember the good times -- he brought a lot of joy to Cubs fans, and excitement and interest to the sport overall.

Sosa said the corked bat was just a batting practice bat that he accidentally grabbed. The league did x-ray 76 of his other bats and all were clean.
The steroid thing is kinda silly now that Ortiz and some other suspected users are in the HOF.

Are you trying this one more time because it didn't get any reactions the last time you said it in the Sosa PED use thread? :D
