If this last round showed us anything, it's that whoever takes care of the ball the best in these games wins.
That'll probably be the difference this round as well, assuming Hurts' knee is okay
Super bowl 26 rematch!!
Washington over Philly - Thought the line would be bigger for Philly though.
Both lines are pretty much the same as Wash @ Phi in November 2024 and Buf @ KC in December 2023.

I so want the Commanders to take this. I really do. But this will be Jayden in Philly in the freezing cold...and a defense that bends but doesn't break.
I think Eagles squeeze it out. The wildcard will be which Hurts shows up. He's been doing just enough with minimal passing volume while Saquon shoulders the offensive load. If it turns into a shootout I think that could be very bad for Philly.
As for the AFC....

All remaining teams strength of schedule ranked lower than 20. Interesting Eagles wasn't that much better than the Commanders.
2024 Strength of Schedule :
21. Kansas City Chiefs - .488
t-27. Buffalo Bills - .467
30. Philadelphia Eagles - .453

Makes you wonder that strength of schedule is an overrated metrics. You play whoever you are supposed to. Ravens choking against raiders and browns costed them homefield advantage and possibly this game. Every team would choose to play raiders 17x than playing chiefs bills ravens

It does feel like the AFC championship is the real Super Bowl this year. It’s the matchup we all want to see. It’s like when Brady/Manning met in the playoffs or regular season.

Commanders @ Eagles
If the weather is lousy (snow/rain): I say Eagles in a close one with Barkley shouldering the load.
No bad weather: Commanders. I don't trust Hurts right now and the commanders are on a roll.
Bills @ Chiefs: Another heart breaker for Bills fans. Chiefs by 3.
Chiefs then go on to a three peat.

Like I said in another post, I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but when I see Patty get two borderline RTP calls in his game, then I watch Lamar Jackson get clearly tackled OOB last night with no call, I get doubtful.
The NFL needs to be consistent. And these kinds of calls should be able to be challenged.

I'm amazed that people could have watched that Bills game yesterday, saw the "pass interference" that got them inside the 10, saw the hits they got away with on Lamar, and saw that they only had 1 penalty called on them the entire game, know that Josh Allen has 7 more Roughing the Passer calls in his career than Mahomes (38 to 31 in 800 LESS passing attempts) and are here saying "Refs about the screw over the Bills".
The Chiefs and Mahomes have seriously broken you people. Your brain has been compromised by tiktok clips and clickbait, and you've either lost or never had the ability to objectively look at information and come to a reasonable conclusion. And I feel bad, because it's taking away focus from the 98% of the game that actually matters.
-The 4 teams that led to total yards this weekends lost
-The 4 teams that won didn't turn the ball over at all
-The 4 teams that won are the top 4 teams in 4th down efficiency this season
That was the story of this weekend. The teams that won were the ones that made fewer mistakes and executed better. And it's the same thing that'll make the difference next week. So there's your story and where the conversation should be.... unless your just a rube who's too broken to see that.

The best thing for the nfl is to have a drama free game by the refs. This big matchup should be all about the teams/players. This should be great tv. Most anticipated game of the year. We all knew this would be the afc championship game.

You have a fluffy, comfortable space in the PattyCakes thread. Just hang out there. I feel like the Mahomies and the Mahaters just need to respect each others separate space before all of you suffer an inevitable stroke.

Like I said in the Chiefs thread, there's reality (the refs are not biased for the Chiefs) and there's perception. (they are)
With the exception of the KC fans, pretty much everyone else thinks the refs are in the Chiefs back pocket. (they are some outliers)
Perreira having to go on the Rich Eisen show to refute ref bias clearly shows that. What was the biggest sports headline this week after the general game discussion? The refs. All the national sports shows have discussed it this week.
Do I think the refs are in Patty's back pocket? NO, but that's not the opinion of many sports fans in this country right now, and that's the problem with the NFL.

Bills < Chiefs - It definitely feels like it's Buffalo's time, but Reid, Spags, and Mahomes have that voodoo magic. It's close, but another heartbreaker for the Bills. A loss here would be devastating for Allen and the Bills. If they lose here, the pressure will be soooo great in the following years, that it could prevent him from ever reaching his potential.
Commanders > Eagles - It'll be 40 and partly sunny: which favors WASH. If it were cold, rainy, or something like that, I'd be all over Philly, but Washington's offense will be too much for the Eagles who won't be able to keep up with their lackluster passing game. Will J. Daniels be the first rookie to win the SB??

In the age of social media, perception may easily become a false reality. And since the currency of social media is outrage, the result is spending more time on those platforms. That’s the true gaslighting being done here.

Not with you on the Bills point. They need to get over the hump, but this was a rebuilding year in which the talking heads and peers counted them out. Just another measure of disrespect to Allen. Would be great to see him overcome!!

The Eagles and Commanders played twice this year.
Each won in their own building.
In Week 11, Eagles (home) beat the Commanders (away) 26-18.
In Week 17, Jalen Hurts went down with a concussion 11 plays into the game. Kenny Pickett played the rest of the game. The Commander's won after scoring with six seconds left after a great drive by the Commanders, for a 36-33 final.
You say that the Eagles passing game is lackluster. It's true that the numbers aren't jaw-dropping, but their philosophy all year has been to grind it out, run, wear out the defensive lines, run the clock, and pounce on the defenses in the second half when they are gassed. They've been saying - just because the Eagles haven't been throwing the ball much doesn't mean they can't. Especially when they are holding leads.
Eagles also will have home-field advantage, something I'm not sure that you may have thought of but didn't cite in your game analyses.
Further, the Eagles had the #1 overall total defense this year. The two teams the Commanders beat to get to the NFC Championship game were the Bucs (18th overall total defense) and Lions (20th overall total defense).
Should be a fun watch. Even though I'm an Eagles fan, there's nothing I can do to effect the outcome of the game, so I just have to watch and hope for a win, and if that doesn't happen, give props to Washington and wish them luck in the Super Bowl!

You're right, they weren't expected to do this this year, but here we are. Letting another opportunity slip away (especially after beating the Chiefs in the regular season) would be a mental mind F. I truly believe in the accumulation of missed chances having a negative effect over time. It also works the other way, and multiple positive results leads to mental freedom, which in turn produces more, positive results - i.e. the Chiefs.

I understand your rationale, but there are just too many examples of teams getting hot at the end of the season, into the playoffs, and then win the SB. Without really looking too much further, you have the 2007 NY Giants, 2010 Packers, 2011 NY Giants, 2020 Buccaneers, 2021 LA Rams. The Commanders can keep pace, offensively, with anyone in the league and have an underrated defense. The recipe is there.

I know we have pro sports betting in most states now through apps on our phones - but back before that whenever I'd be in Vegas and if I was up a couple 100 I'd usually put a $100 futures bet on a longshot Philly team.
Wonder if there's any Commander's fans with a $100 ticket that'll pay $15,000 if the Commander's win the Super Bowl - and what do you do if you have one? Do you cash out now, be happy with the money and if the Commanders do win it all, it's a cherry on top, or do you go for it all - $15,000 + a Super Bowl win or $0 and a NFC Championship or Super Bowl loss?!?!

Is 6-5 during the Mahomes era though?
The Chiefs are 6-5 when Cete Blakeman is officiating. It won’t be his full crew as its’s mixed crew due to playoffs.
Blakeman's crews called 252 penalties in 16 games, the highest penalty totals in the NFL this season.
Top 5 Most Penalties by Crew:
Clete Blakeman: 252 penalties/2128 yards/289 flags
Craig Wrolstad: 252/2092/302
Ron Torbert: 235/1958/285
Alex Kemp: 231/1898/265
Shawn Hochuli: 221/1811/274
Shawn Hochuli will calling the Eagles game.

Is 6-5 during the Mahomes era though?
Edit: corrected
Since becoming an NFL referee ahead of the 2010 season, Blakeman has worked 17 Chiefs games. KC is 10-7 in those games.
But the Chiefs are 6-5 (.545) in games Blakeman has worked while Patrick Mahomes has been the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.

Rumor has it that 48% of the Commanders' offensive holding calls this season came in the two games Hochuli and Alex Kemp officiated. Kemp is working with Hochuli's crew this weekend.
Also, the Eagles are 6-0 in games Hochuli has officiated under head coach Nick Sirianni.

I am excited to watch.
KC is just such a different team than Mahomes' early years throwing bombs to Tyreek and Watkins and Kelce. It's a grindy defense team now. Bills are also a different team with now just mediocre WRs yet a fairly good RB and Josh Allen a lot better at minimizing turnovers versus young years. I think Buffalo has slightly more talent in 2024, but their coaching is average at best... and that's just huge in big games. I think Chiefs win it... probably a one score game.
Jayden and Wash are out of rabbits to pull from the hat. This one won't be close; the Skins will get beat pretty bad. The line reflects this. Philly already outplayed them twice easily this year imo (a last-minute 12/22 win in a game Hurts left injured in Q1 doesn't really count to me). Philly will roll and be pulling starters out in Q4.
Three more games, guys :) !:) !:)!
... A loss here would be devastating for Allen and the Bills. If they lose here, the pressure will be soooo great in the following years...They're on the road. KC is 1 seed.
They had their chances for #1 seed, and they messed them up.
I don't think losing any road game is devastating.
It's pretty clear by not that Josh Allen is the Peyton to Mahomes' Brady status for this generation.
Sad? Upsetting? Frustrating? Sure... but not devastating to lose to 2x defending SB champs on the road. Jmo.
It was probably more devastating to lose to them in Buffalo last year 2023 AFC divi round at home in NY?

Buffalo’s season is such a crazy story it’s almost possible this is the one.
Bills lost 6 pro bowlers , #1 and #2 receivers. They lost 3 of their 4 starting defense backfield, Poyer, Hyde and White. Milano missed 16 months with injuries and still is about 80%. They lost their starting center, line blocking assignments veteran Mitch Morse.
James Cook had 4 total rushing touchdowns in his career until this year with 16 total lead the league.
Who ever heard of Shakir until this year? Mac Hollins is with his 4th team in 4 years and was a team leader in receiving TD’s.
Vegas had them at 10 wins behind Miami and the Jets and they clinch at Thanksgiving.
If they pull it off, it’s nothing short of a Hollywood movie. GO BILLS!

I think I heard him mention he's a QB fan and there was that thread where he was asking for opinions on what Drew Brees card to purchase where he called himself a diehard Saints fan, though I never see him posting about the Saints.
I think he just has man crushes on certain QBs, used to be Drew Brees so he was a Saints fan, now he's in love with Josh Allen so he's the #1 Bills fan.
When I was growing up, you were a fan of the team from your city.
If you were born without a nearby team, like in Montana or Wyoming or Arkansas, I suppose you'd be free to root for whoever you'd like, but I'd think it would make the most sense to root for the geographically closest team to where you live, because it's likely your local ABC, NBC (back in the day), CBS, and FOX affiliate would cover the games of the closest team, geographically.
Someone who grew up in a state without a team - correct me if I'm wrong.

As of 8/27/24, Jets are the new favorites to win the AFC in 2024. Days ahead of the NFL season, New York's odds to take the division now sit at +165. The Buffalo Bills opened as the favorites to repeat as AFC East champions, but those odds recently moved from +130 to +195, second on the board.
When division odds first began to drop back in early March, the Bills were at +130 to repeat in the AFC East at DraftKings, followed by the Dolphins at +180 and the Jets at +300.
Bills opened as favorites and then jets moved hard before season started.

There will be no need for excuses after the Bills beat KC. KC has to be the luckiest good team to reach this point. Every bounce, every penalty, every toe went their way this year. Eventually that and one score wins will catch up. Now that the whole world is aware of the differential in playoff penalties the game will be called very close to the vest. The Bills pass rush will be the difference.

Interesting. So all an astute person needs to do is bet heavily on Chiefs money line and over this time period you’re a huge winner. I’m certain that betters who know this have been doing so since “everyone” knows this has been going on and knows the narrative. (Quotation marks are my own)
If only it were this easy. If it were and I was a big winner it would be anything but unwatchable.
Bottom line is as a Chiefs fan, there are two results. Chiefs win or Chiefs lose. Either way there are going to be no excuses from me as it’s a game. End of story. If they win, it will be historic. If they lose, I’ll be thankful they’ve done so well compared to 50 years of no Super bowl appearances until 2019. It’s been remarkable.

Seasoned gamblers know you always bet on a streak versus against it. Betting on a streak has unlimited upside with a downside of one loss. Betting against a streak has unlimited downside with upside of one win.
The White Sox example is a great one and I was lucky enough to win some money on that streak, although I do not parlay my winnings, I simply bet the same amount until it loses.
I think the point being made was related to all the cries of conspiracy and fixed results. If you truly believed it was rigged, you could have made a lot of money betting the KC money line in all of these playoff games for the last 3 years. People continue to cry that it is rigged and yet given the option to bet on KC, these same people will say no thank you because crying it all it is. 1. A streak can be whatever you want it to be. It is more a life lesson for those people that love to bet on the "due" factor fallacy. I am not one that seeks out streaks, but when we see streaks like we did with the White Sox last year, I am one that will bet on the streak for fun while many will bet against the streak for due factor alone.
2. As for KC, I think you are still missing the general point being made. If you are one that truly believes in the conspiracy and think the outcome of the game this weekend is already determined, by all means go profit from it and enjoy the windfall. Good on you for making a lot of money on KC over the last couple years. I do not know if you fall into the conspiracy camp of "these games are all predetermined." The fact of the matter is people don't really think that, they just like to cry about it after the fact and say it is rigged. It happens in every sport when one team is successful for a prolonged period of time.
For the people that truly believe the game is predetermined, if you have not made lots of money with that knowledge, you are dumber than people already think you are.
I for one think the games this weekend will be great and would not presume to know the outcome prior to kick off! I would not be shocked to see any of these 4 teams win this weekend.

There’s no KC hate here. I’ve been a loyal Bills fan since 1963. I’ve seen 2 AFL championships, 4 SB losses and a 13 second game. It’s just a feeling about this Bills team. A team of no bodies- minus SuperMan. A team of zero pro bowlers.
Yea KC had injuries. So does everyone. Buffalo has zero receivers in the top whatever. Buffalo has injuries again in the secondary. So what. It comes down to the QB’s again and Allen has it figured out. Is it enough? I hope so. If not, they’ll still have JA17 next year

Gambler fallacy
It is not a fallacy in sports. In sports, streaks are a real thing.
Now when it comes to point spreads, betting against a streak is often wise because if a team wins 3/4/5 games in a row, their spread will be over inflated on that next game. For example, the 15-2 Chiefs were an abysmal 7-10 ATS this year.

I don't know what you're on about the division, but I posted the whole pre-season odds (Like, the day pre-season started, these were the futures odds) for winning the Super Bowl, and the top was as follows:
1. Kansas City Chiefs +500
2. San Francisco 49ers +600
3. Baltimore Ravens +1000
T4. Philadelphia Eagles +1200
T4. Detroit Lions +1200
5. Cincinnati Bengals +1300
T6. Houston Texans +1600
T6. Green Bay Packers +1600
T6. Buffalo Bills +1600
I've even heard people say they should make a MOVIE about the Bills season if they win a Super Bowl? Bunch of overreaction in this thread / in general if you ask me.
Buffalo was among the top 9 out of 32 teams as far as odds to win the Super Bowl. Three out of the four teams that were in that Top 9 are still alive.
The Commanders are the Cinderella Story this year, not the Bills. The Bills have been been contenders from years, and have made the playoffs for at least each of the last four years.
Sorry Bills fans, you had some key injuries this year and got rid of your WR1 who was a cancer in the locker room. Welcome to football. They're not putting an asterisk next to your season - win or lose the rest of the way - because of it. You're not the first nor the last team it'll have happened to.
The team I support has been to four Super Bowls, and the only one we won was with our backup Quarterback. No asterisk in the record books if the Patriots would have won Super Bowl LII* (* Eagles were playing with their backup QB, and therefore disadvantaged).
Win or go home. Immortality or nothing. There's no asterisk in the book for Super Bowl LVII either. Chiefs - Super Bowls LVII Champions*
*There was a call that some thought was questionable - a defensive hold on the Eagles with under 2 minutes left, which, if not called, would have given the Eagles the ball back with 1:30 in a 35-35 game. The Eagles never saw the ball again and the Chiefs kicked a FG to win 38-35.
Book just says - Super Bowl LVII: Kansas City Chiefs.
Wishing you luck against the Chiefs, may the best team win.

Eagles fan...what is the status of Hurts? How is that knee. I know he will play but will he be able to be Jalen Hurts?
They're keeping it quiet. I believe their thinking is not to tip their hand - to make the Commanders have to game plan for both possibilities.
I did see their D Coordinator had some choice words about Hurts - if he runs, we're going to treat him and hit him like a RB.
Uh.. why you trying to talk and give the Eagles something to say "Oh, is that right?" about - but also - your QB runs too buddy, and he's hella skinnier than Hurts. Hurts probably has 40 pounds on Daniels - and that's no insult.
There's a reason he's called the "Slim Reaper" - and he's a rookie - Hurts has been in the league since 2020, bulking up, working with nutritionists...
I'm sure Daniels will be doing that in the off-season too. I don't think the Commanders want him bulking up 40lbs, but 20lbs of muscle across that 6'4" frame would serve him well for absorbing hits / injury prevention in the future.

...I would not be shocked if WAS won, but I don't think they can stop Barkley. They can't. You saw that already in two reg season games (~350yds and 4td for Barkley).
They don't turn into a new team on the road in an important matchup.
I would certainly take Phi (-6) or whatever they're at, but I have plenty on them already with future bet. No need to risk a Skins backdoor cover or Phila win-but-not-cover with Hurts effectiveness being uncertain.

Or Nebraska like me? I started out as a rams fan mostly because of their colors and Eric Dickerson. But being in the land of the big 12 I was lucky enough to witness Barry Sanders greatness first hand. I was blown away. I decided to follow him to his NFL team. And as luck would have it I was a huge fan of real Lions and even dreamed of being a national geographic photographer as a kid. And my favorite color was blue lol. It was a perfect fit. And as they say the rest was history. I will be a lions fan until the day I die.The more the Lions struggle and the more other fans mock me the more I love the Lions. Lions are the ultimate underdog story. It's almost a badge of honor at this point. But yes if I grew up in another city/state with a pro team I am sure I would be a fan of that team.
Bills are not fave to win division. in fsct they're behind dolphins and jets. get your facts straight
https://www.sportsbettingdime.com/nfl/divisional-odds/
[March 4] The opening AFC East odds favor the Buffalo Bills with +130 odds. The Dolphins and Jets are both close with +190 and +290 odds, respectively.
They opened as favorites and were 2nd when the season started, not 3rd.
[September 13] Buffalo demolished the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football of Week 2, and took over as the division favorites after the win. Miami’s odds faded from an average of +173 to +500 with Tua Tagovailoa suffering another concussion and being out without a timetable for return.

I don't know how anyone could possibly bet against KC and their proven recent history of brutal dominance. And at home? Psh.
Now Mahomes is backed by the best defense he's ever had. If he's even 70% of his former self then they still pull it off.
Bills only chance is being up 3 tuddies with 2 minutes left in the 4th. And even then it'll be like pulling teeth.
Chiefs @ -125 in the ACFC feels like Kwanza in January. Full send.

It is not a fallacy in sports. In sports, streaks are a real thing.
Now when it comes to point spreads, betting against a streak is often wise because if a team wins 3/4/5 games in a row, their spread will be over inflated on that next game. For example, the 15-2 Chiefs were an abysmal 7-10 ATS this year.
when does streak starts? I'm sure betting on team with streaks mean worse odds as most of the time they are faves, if it's that easy everyone woul be rich. Every event is exclusive and past events are not an indicator of this one sample size

Eagles over Commanders 65/35
Chiefs over Bills 55/45
Both should be very competitive games with upsets being possible in both. If Daniels engineers an upset, it would be quite the feat in his rookie year. Bills and Chiefs will likely come down to final minutes and who turns the ball over the least. Looking forward to the games!

when does streak starts?I asked the same question above. It really is up to the individual bettor.
I knew a guy that, once a baseball team won (or lost) 4 in a row, he would bet on (or against) that team until the streak ended. Some years he made money, some years he lost money. Your other comment is 100% correct: it leads to much, much worse odds.
