0-1 in the playoffs again for the Lions!
*Insert Crying Dan Campbell Gif*Campbell has to be the worst coach in the NFL (who wasn't fired already). Dan Quinn a close 2nd.
I was truly hoping to see Dan "Gamble" face a good team in postseason and faceplant with bad calls (like they used to lose the Bills game with 10min left!), yet they lost to a mediocre team in first game of playoffs instead.
It would be hilarious if the team ever trumped him and just kicked a punt or FG when he pushes them to do that dumb spit.
...early 2025 predict:
Vikings 11-6
Bears 10-7
Lions 10-7
Pack 7-10
I think the Packers take the division.Huh?
Their RB is very high miles.
Their WRs are constantly hurt.
Their secondary is suspect in a division of good/great QBs+WRs.
Their budget for FA is basically nil.
Their QB is not terrible... but likely the worst or 2nd worst one in the division.
An above average coach and a few cold home games is about all Green Bay has these days.
Abbreviating words, that’s worked out well for others in the past.:coffee:

Regarding the Packers - and not saying I think by any stretch they're a shoo in to win the division, but:
-Jacobs is only 26 and has ~1,600 carries. A physical back for sure, but nowhere near the traditional falloff benchmarks. He should have two good years left physically.
-Watson is consistently hurt, and Doubs had concussion issues this year - always scary going forward - but they're not in as bad as shape as you're alluding. I'd like to see them use a pick on a burner, and maybe add a vet in free agency. There is need here, but they're not terrible.
-Secondary hinges on Jaire. I'd like him to be traded, unless you could guarantee me he plays 15+ games. If he plays, between him, the emergence of Carrington Valentine, and the return of Evan Williams (who was looking AWESOME pre-injury), they're only needing depth. If he goes, yes - they absolutely need a top notch corner in the draft or FA.
-They're middle of the pack in terms of cap space. That is before any restructuring, and they have virtually zero key guys up for FA this year. They'll be able to afford a player or two.
-I'm less high on Love after his year two regression - but I'd take him over Williams, McCarthy is a huge unknown, and how much will Goff suffer without BJ? Year 3 will be key, and the team will follow his trajectory for better or worse.
Not saying you're wrong - they very well could end up in the 7-10 range. But I'd bank on them staying in the 10 win mark.

Bears are probably gonna be projected 3rd or 4th again this year. Unfortunately, I can see the Packers fighting for the North crown.
But would you take Love over Williams even when salary is considered?
Siberian13

My early rankings. Have to think the lions still rule the north especially getting players back. Packers should still be good enough to tow the 2nd spot. No clue what the Vikings do at qb. Bears are well the bears. Maybe it takes a Lion to get the Bears on the right track? I hope so.

Great question. I’m not sold on Williams becoming a top 10 QB, but he absolutely showed flashes this past season. I’ll very, very hesitantly say yes…if only because Love has learned when to bail on a play and avoid devastating sacks. But I also wouldn’t be stunned if 12 months from now I was racing back to this thread to delete this comment. :D:D

Wow a newly-appearing Vikes fan coming in hot! Must have a lot of confidence in JJ as their starter?Vikings have won 13+ games with Kirk and then Darnold. I don't think it's a system that needs a hugely talented QB.
Lions have a lot of player talent but a goofball coach who just lost both OC and DC.
Pack are ok but don't spend FA, so player talent is worst of the division.
Bears are the biggest mystery going forward.
They're all average teams or above... we shall see. We can agree it's prob toughest top-to-bottom division in the NFL besides AFC West.

You must be trolling because just about everything you said is wrong lol. Josh Jacobs is 26, Watson is constantly hurt, not their WRs, they just had a couple of guys get hurt in the one game everyone was watching. The secondary is fine, if/when Jaire returns healthy, it becomes a strength. Where did you get your budget info? They have more than $60 mil in cap space before the annual contract restructurings. I would take their QB over anyone else in the division but to each their own.

Well we'll just have to see, won't we? I'm not worried about replacing either. The key guy is Holmes. We'll be OK.
Glad your wife is doing well, but it's really sad to use that as an excuse for hiding only when your team sucks. Just own it - in 2024, the Bears and Cryleb were a punchline all season long. Bringing your personal life into this thread to avoid a ribbing is certainly something...
Yes, I will own it. I didn't post in the NFC North thread, or any thread very much. Because I was hiding. Even when the Bears were 4-2, and Caleb was breaking league and team records left and right.
Not because my wife was too sick to do much of anything, I had to work from home to take care of my 2 young kids or anything else. You got me!
I have been in this forum for over 15 years. It takes a sad pathetic little man, to throw shade at the situation I was in. You have outdone yourself.
On the bright side, I think its funny that a Lions Fan wants to use "Cryleb", as if that's catchy or something.
Yes, he once cried off camera after a tough loss back when he was in school. Unlike a tough guy grown man & head coach, like Dan Campbell bawling in front of the national media to end each and every year.

Thank you! And that's the last Ill post about that. I made mention last year, when I was accused of hiding,. And yet some lowlifes still want to throw it in my face.
I am calling my shot. Caleb over 4,000 yards passing and over 30 TDs in year 2. Both smashing team records.
If the kid could put up over 4,000 yards of offense as a rookie. Between a swiss cheese line, 2 different HC and 3 different OCs. I cant even image what he can do with some stability.

As I said, no better time to be a Bears fan than the off-season! Pure fantasy reigns supreme!
In division news.
Lions lose OC Ben Johnson to Chicago. Early plans to replace him in Detroit looked like OL Coach Hank Fraley.
Hank Fraley might be in line for the Seahawks OC opening. And just did his second interview for that gig.
If Fraley bails, it seems like the Lions will lean on their passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand. Engstrand is now rumored to be joining Ben Johnson in Chicago as their OC.
If Engstrand bails, the Lions might have to give a look at quarterback coach Mark Brunell to be their OC. But he too is rumored to follow Ben to Chicago.
Lions are going to have to give the gig to their water boy soon, if this all plays out.

Was hoping to replace from within. After seeing the Defensive Line Coach be given the Coordinator job with the Pats under Vrabel, makes that impossible. You would think that many talented Coordinator prospects would enjoy being on Campbell’s staff. That might be a incentive that Dan takes the onus for allowing his coaches to open up the playbook like no other coach has ever done.

Dennis Allen took the DC gig over the weekend. So that is wrapped up. Which is a good luck on Ben, willing to share the locker room with a former HC.
After Matt Eberflus's DC was caught up in some sex scandal or something. They floated him bringing back Vic Fangio, who was just playing consultant in Philly. But Flus didn't want to concede any control I guess. That worked out well for him.

The new (and young) OC is Da Coach's nephew...
Declan Doyle? Interesting that the Saints TE coach is now the Bears OC. Maybe the Bears are gonna roll out some Taysom Hill style plays...

I thought he spent the past year working with Sean Payton (another Chicago guy!) in Denver.
After doing a little digging, it looks like Declan's father is Chris Doyle, who was accused of being racist while coaching at University of Iowa.
I'm not sure if the relation to Ditka has been confirmed or is just a rumor.

Yeah, I think its just a rumor started on Reddit. Then social media picked up on that.

Nah, lots of Lions chatter in here! Below were some of my favorites so far!
I cant believe we just lost Ben Johnson. The Lions were horrible, until we lucked in to him as OC. Looks like the Bears will rule the division now.
Wow, 59 years of Super Bowls. And my Lions have never even been to one. I thought this was our year! But we couldn't even win a single playoff game. To make matters worse, my outhouse on the farm is clogged! I hate 2025 already!
Cowboys are taking former Bears HC Matt Eberflus as their DC. Bears Interim HC, and former OC Thomas Brown to the Patriots. Bears Assist GM Ian Cunningham now rumored to get the Jacksonville GM job
Man, it sucks when you build such an elite staff. And other teams swoop in to steal your talent.

I was reading how it was only up from here for the Vikes. If they could do that well with Darnold, only imagine how well they will do with JJ.
If JJ's 1st season is anything like the season Darnold just had, he will look like a franchise guy. I don't see JJ stepping in and having that kind of success right awayWhy not?
Vikes have one of the best WR/TE sets around (Sea? Phi? Det? Balt?).
Minn OL is not amazing, but not bad... in a division that doesn't play much defense to begin with.
The HC is well known for getting the max from QBs in LAR and now in Minn.
Cousins was little before Minn... and is nothing again (even with decent weapons in Atlanta).
Darnold nothing before Vikings... after = ???
What's not indicating that the Vikings can do well with any reasonable QB for 2025 and forward?
JJ McCarthy was having a great camp and preseason prior to injury.
Heck, they can probably roll Danny Dimes or basically anyone half-legit out under center. No joke.

"Lions hiring John Morton as new offensive coordinator"
I for sure thought it was THAT John Morton! Instead, its some old white guy.

As a first year starter, Darnold certainly has the edge IMO. Dude will be playing in the Pro Bowl.
From the business side, someone is going to give Darnold $40MIL a year. The Vikes will be paying JJ under $5MIL. Even if JJ is a slight downgrade, the cost savings is massive.

You can be a Vikes homer all you want, and yes, KOC is a helluva offensive coach so they likely don't need McCarthy to be a top 5 QB to be successful in the offense, but Cousins was little? That's just flat out wrong. He played on some piss poor Washington teams and made them .500, including a playoff appearance. Averaged almost 4,400 yards, 27 TD and 12 picks in his last 3 years in Washington.

The Bears new DC Dennis Allen just ratted out Ben Johnson during his introductory news conference the other day.
He said BJ reached out to him late in the season, to see if he had any interest in joining him in Chicago.
I previously claimed Hairy was nuts, with his conspiracy theory that Johnson was more focused on building his staff, then game planing for a Super Bowl run. But it looks like he was at least a little right.

You are asking if the Chiefs offensive coordinator, who won 2 super bowls, will be any good as a running backs coach? I'd have to think so.
The Bears hire a bunch of hacks that Matt Eberflus once had beers with, and get ridiculed for it. As they should.
Then the Bears build a staff of whose who of coaches that won championships, were former HC's or actually played in the league. And a Packer fan is going to ridicule them for it?
Not sure if you are in position to throw any shade. Maybe mad, cause Caleb is undefeated in Lambeau?

You act like EB was a big part in that KC team. There is a reason why he never got a HC job. It's because he's not that good. Proof in him in Washington and UCLA.

To be fair, uCLA was a cheeks team in 2024, the move to the superior Big 10 meant they were in for a rough season. Hard to blame Bienemy for any of that. He’s a solid coach, and focusing on his natural position makes sense. I’m as green and gold as they get…but don’t think this was a bad hire for da Bears. No, I am stating the fact that he was the offensive coordinator for 2 Super Bowls. But now he is just coaching the running back room.

The suspense is killing me !! When are they announcing that Cryleb Williams is the Offensive Rookie of the year.I think Caleb is the best talent of the 2024 draft (and it was a loaded QB draft), but I fear for his situation.
He is on a real bad team in a real good division.
Bears are a dumpster fire, now with new coach.
Ben Johnson seems great, but we shall see... anyone can score with Goff, LaPorta, StBrown, JWill, Gibbs+Monty and the best OL in the NFL. Half their offense is ProBowl.
I think best case for Caleb is to survive his rookie 4yrs without injury, play fairly well, refuse to play on 5th year option and hold out to force a trade out. (similar to what TLaw should've done in Jax, but instead ruined his career)
It's a shame. But I will bet the Bears team wins under yet again this year... and win yet again.

But are all those Lions great? Or did Ben Johnson's scheme and play calling make them great? Most all of those players were 3-13 in 2021, before BJ took over as OC
Goff got ran out of LA, and only had 3200 yards and 19 TDs in Detroit before Ben took over. He has flung 4500 yards and 30/40 Tds each season since. No one was calling for a Goff MVP until Johnson.
The Bears have talent. They just needed to get out from under Eberflus.

If you don't think Gibbs, St Brown, Sewell, Ragnow aren't worthy Pro Bowlers and Johnson "made" them, that is silly. Goff and Monty are closer to the middle of the pack guys. JWill is one of the fastest players in the league. Laporta is an upper echelon TE.
We shall see how the two team fair this year. Detroit still has a clear edge on the offense side in regards to talent at almost every spot. Bears are deeper at WR, but St Brown is the best of the bunch. Johnson will have to work with his play calling with a downgrade at Oline. All his trick plays work because the line can hold blocks. Of course Williams can actually move, so they will negate it a bit. Division should be fun next year, lots of questions on each team. I don't expect three 11 win teams again, that seems unlikely.

I was just stating the obvious. That coaching/play calls put most all those players over the top. And it shouldn't be discredited. The Lions were a well coached team. Which is obvious, seeing as how their coaches just got poached.
The question is, how good will they be without Glenn and Johnson. We shall see!

I was just stating the obvious. That coaching/play calls put most all those players over the top. And it shouldn't be discredited. The Lions were a well coached team. Which is obvious, seeing as how their coaches just got poached.
The question is, how good will they be without Glenn and Johnson. We shall see!
We will also see how good Caleb and friends are with Johnson! So much to see in the 2025 NFCN ;)

The Bears will never amount to anything. The organization is too far gone. Maybe once the team is sold. Caleb will follow Fields and Tribusky. Johnson will follow everyone since Lovie. I cannot stand this team, nor the idiotic fans that continue to support it after so many boneheaded moves. -8 degrees, 3-13, playing week 17 and these morons still sellout the stadium teaching ownership nothing while annually claiming "next year is our year" over and over.

The Bears will never amount to anything? They have 9 NFL Championships. How is that never amounting to anything? They have been to the top of the hill 9 times. 41 former Bears in the Hall of Fame. More than any other team. Never anything huh?
Bears fans still show up, because we have a dynasty team. There is a legacy to uphold. We are not fair weather fans. We have seen the good (1985) with the bad (3-13).
Would it be more respectable, if we didn't show up at all like Lions fans over the past 30 years, sans the last 3?
Maybe cool it with such analogies?

69 Days away from the NFL draft, that will be held in Green Bay. Anyone going to it? Im curious to see how they will lay it out. I know the plan is to put as much as they can onto the actual field itself. As Green Bay isnt set up like a big city would be, to spread stuff out. Getting a room close by would be a nightmare as well.

Nice to see you have crawled out of your hole. Happy New Year! Bears are undefeated in 2025. Can the Lions say the same? Too soon to bring that up?
On the bright side. Ben Johnson finally got to see what a Lombardi trophy looked like. Once he got to Chicago.

I might sneak up there for the experience...but I have a hunch it's going to be a logistical nightmare. They do have the Resch Center next door, I assume they hold some events in there...but I don't see how such a small area can hold 300-400K people at once. I see they're targeting a number closer to 250K...but I'd be stunned if it didn't end up much higher. Getting to and fro if you're not staying near Lambeau? No thanks. Even being in Appleton might be a 2 hour drive.

He can survive the 4 years of the Bears and GTFO.
I think he'll have a pretty good career (once he leaves Chicago).
But yes, Chicago is a terrible place to be an NFL player.
The only worse ones I could think of might be Carolina or Jax, possibly Cle.
NYG and NYJ and Indy aren't great, but still probably better than Bears.

I plan on going. Will never go to a Super Bowl so might as well go to the next biggest event the NFL has.
Rooms are not going to be a problem. Oshkosh has EAA every year and that has over 500K attend a week long air show. Won't find a hotel in GB at this point but lots of hotels in cities a half hour to hour drive from GB.
Though this week they already showed they will be starting to shut down roads around Lambeau in late march with all roads shut down around Lambeau a week before the draft.
Worst thing is going to find parking.

Road games: Chicago (5-12), Green Bay (11-6), Minnesota (14-3), Washington (12-5), Philadelphia (14-3), Cincinnati (9-8), Baltimore (12-5), Kansas City (15-2) and Los Angeles Rams (10-7).

Yep. Gonna be tough. Unlikely to repeat 15-2. But I still see the divisional road games, Cincy, and the Rams as winnable. Baltimore, KC, and Philly will be tough to beat at home. Hopefully we don't blow through the first two strings of defensive players this season.

Can't rule that out. It's a brutal schedule. On the other hand, a healthy Lions team will be a lot for these teams to handle. The window is still open. They're not going to cruise to 15-2 but need to go 11-6 or 12-5 to give themselves a shot at getting in.

I think @Balt and @Phi will be tough... @GB tough if later in the season.
All of the others are pretty winnable. Rams, Bears, Vikings, Skins, just aren't that good. Det could beat them... they should probably be favored in most of those, 50/50 chance or better imo.
Lions have below average coaching - esp with OC departure (DC not much of a loss), but they still have a LOT of player talent. They will beat most teams - and beat good teams sometimes.

If you said Baltimore I would believe you.Goff plays terrible in most away games. Much worse QBR and turnovers vs his home games. That is common knowledge.
They won't hang with Bengals' scoring or KC overall plan/play. KC won't be limping around most of the year with basically no WRs in 2025 like they were in 2024.
Balt will be weaker this next year. Flowers' knee injury at start of playoffs was much more serious than they let on, and Henry will slow down... dude is 32 before end of this next year. Kings get old too.
They could outscore Phila or GB on a good day. It'd depend if 3-4td or 3-4int Goff shows up.
...Detroit's not a bad team... one of the most talented rosters i NFL, but they won't beat most good teams on the road. Their bad "gamble" coaching will often lose it for em even if the players do enough to win. But yeah, see when the games start...

Caleb is super weak-minded... and a weirdo. No secret there.
Dude cross dresses, he pouts, paints his fingernails, he doesn't think a ton for himself (follows coach to a new school, lets family make his decisions, etc).
That was well-known when he was in college. At Heisman vote. It was known at combine. It was known at NFL draft.
The funny thing is, he was still the #1 pick anyways. The #1 pick in a very good QBs draft.
That shows you how talented Caleb is. He's the best QB prospect in a long time... probably since Luck - or even Stafford or Peyton?
If he can find a way to not have Bears get him injured or ruined, he'll have a good career.
But yeah, he's Dennis Rodman or Terrell Owens level of nutso. He's tutti fruity.
Doesn't seem to get in trouble off-field, but the dude is FAR from normal.
Like many of the ones people in IL live in for there up north home? :D
"Their" up north home. But you get a pass. I know the education in cow towns aren't the best.
Heads up. It is not a slam to say the rich people in Illinois have many homes they own. And can pick and choose which ones to stay in. Or put decals on.

What a strange homophobic post to make. What makes him "nutso"? And why does him caring about fashion or his appearance make him "tutti fruity"? Which I assume means gay?
Strange take. As if wearing a Patek Philippe watch would keep you from throwing a spiral or something.
At the end of the day, Caleb is a multimillionaire. He is a starting QB in the NFL. Heisman Trophy winner. And dating an insanely hot Danish supermodel. I doubt he cares what people like you have to say about him.

Is that how this stuff is being reported in Detroit? I mean, I get it. You all want a reason to hate on BJ. But he never mentioned Goff by name. And what he said, was not shade. It was truth.
Caleb Williams is mobile. Jared Goff is not. Williams makes plays outside the pocket, or “out-of-structure,” to use Johnson’s phrase. Goff does not.
That is not a slam on Goff. Brady, Manning and plenty of great QBs can sit in the pocket and pick apart teams. Which is what Goff was mostly doing the past few years.
If anyone think Goff is a creative wizard, rolling out of the pocket, evading sacks and creating plays off queue. They are fooling themselves. That's not his game.

The only thing Ben needs to focus on is fixing that Oline. Do that and you have a chance. Seems like he was just trying to make a joke
Things Ben Johnson has said, that Detroit fans don't like. Even though they are true.
"Wow, I have never seen a Lombardi Trophy in person before" "we didn't have one of those at my last job"
"What do you call these trophies?" Oh, the George Halas Trophy for winning the NFC" "we didn't have any of those either"
"So strange seeing all these stores, skyscrapers and parks" "It was mostly poverty, abandoned homes and decay at my last workplace".
"Caleb Williams is more mobile than Jarrod Goff"

It's not smart to be talking trash when you are taking over the team that was dead last three years running.
A decent young QB unfortunately won't make up for inept overall roster and owner/GM system.
NFC North is pretty competitive.
Vrabel, Kellen Moore and others passed on that Bears job of dysfunction junction for sure.

Definitely could be as a lot of coordinators just don’t do well as the head coach. Think if they can fix the oline and run game then the offense will be solid. Not sure about the defense though. Have to figure out how to stop the run.

Kellen Moore didnt even get an interview in Chicago. Hard for him to pass on a job, he wasnt even offered.
Vrabel did interview (like dozens of others). But everyone knew he wanted to go "home" to New England. But he wasnt offered the job either.
Everyone knows the Bears wanted Johnson (as did most every team with a HC opening), and now everyone knows that Johnson wanted the Bears.
To say these people, and others, passed on the job is laughable. But so is most everything you post.

Not showing up sends a message to ownership to do better. The Bears are one of the oldest teams in football and most of that history you mentioned is from pre 90's. The last 3 decades have been abysmal. It's a place young players go to lose a career they could have had, and where old players go to get paid putting in minimal effort. They consistently have one of the worst offensive lines in football. Some of the worst coaching to ...I mean, Marc Trestman?! Come on...The team is a joke. And I say this as a Chicagoan. I'm not someone watching from "the outside". I hate this team so much, 20 years ago I started to follow their rivals, the Packers. Haven't looked back since. Not that the Packers are perfect but compared to the Bears...
Ben Johnson won't make it more than 3 years.
Caleb Williams career will be ruined.
They will not fix the OL.
All assistant coaches will be garbage.
Despite this all Bears fans will cockily exclaim THIS IS THEIR YEAR!!!!!
Rinse and repeat every season.

You quoted a post from me replying to someone who said "The Bears will never amount to anything". So I correctly listed all of the things the Bears amounted to. You cant discard 90 years of history. Just because the last 10 haven't been very good.
Lets fact check that for you.
"The last 3 decades have been abysmal"
Since 2000.
2001, won the division.
2005, won the division.
2006, won the division. Won the NFC Championship. Lost in the Super Bowl.
2010, won the division. Lost in the NFC Championship game
2018, won the division.
2020, 2nd place in the division. Lost in the playoffs.
For sure, the last few years have been bad. But "abysmal"? For decades? Nope.
"It's a place young players go to lose a career"
Over that same 25 year stretch. The Bears have sent 8 players to the Hall of Fame. 2 of them (Urlacher & Hester) retired in the past 10ish years.
Countless All Pros and Pro Bowlers over the past 25 years. Urlacher 8 Pro Bowls, Lance Briggs 7, Olin Kreutz 6, Kyle Long, Tommie Harris, Kyle Fuller, Eddie Jackson, Matt Forte, Charles Tillman, Jaylon Johnson ETC...
"and where old players go to get paid putting in minimal effort"
Khalil Mack made 3 Pro Bowls as a Bear. Julius Peppers made 3 as well. Cordarrelle Patterson had 2. As did Brandon Marshall and Tim Jennings. Allen Robinson, Aikim Hicks, Martellus Bennett, Thomas Jones, Ruben Brown etc were all great signings of vet players. No one bats 100 with trade/free agents. But the Bears have had some good ones.
I'm happy you are no longer a fan. Since clearly you dont understand football.

So they made playoffs 6 times in 24 years and that's your big pat on the shoulder to yourself? We can add 6 more seasons since they hadn't been since 94. so 6 times in 30 years. Congrats. Boy is there egg on my face! With ONE Super Bowl appearance by a team that had no offense (Might have had a better chance had they not benched Orton for Grossman but that's what the Bears do).
Hester was a great kick returner that had zero skills anywhere else and was a complete bust as a WR. As a KR, yes, a great player. But tainted by his time as a WR.
Urlacher was a great player that deserved to be on a better team. I will also give you Tillman and feel the same, deserved better.
Everyone else you listed was mid. Matt Forte had, maybe 2 good seasons. Kyle Fuller was not good for very long either. This is a misleading list.

Slow down there! You might hurt yourself stretching so far!!!
Reason the Chiefs have been who they are starts with the front office. Reid is a great coach, Mahomes is a great QB, but the best football teams are a collection of talented pieces. They add the right free agents, let the wrong players go to free agency, and they draft well. The Bears have improved their roster dramatically from three seasons ago, no doubt about that, but they have a LOT of pieces beyond the O-Line if they're to become an elite team.

Cosigned. This is the very reason why so many teams have prolonged success. And it really starts with the right QB/HC combo.
You have 32 teams in the NFL. A dozen of them, have never won a Super Bowl. Ever. And 4 have never played in one.
Arizona Cardinals (1 appearance)
Atlanta Falcons (2)
Buffalo Bills (4)
Carolina Panthers (2)
Cincinnati Bengals (3)
Cleveland Browns (0)
Detroit Lions (0)
Houston Texans (0)
Jacksonville Jaguars (0)
Los Angeles Chargers (1)
Minnesota Vikings (4)
Tennessee Titans (1)
Over the past 25 years, you have only 13 different teams win it all.
Out of those 13, 7 of them have won multiples.

Fair enough. I don't think Williams has the accuracy of Mahomes...but on paper its a no brainer that Johnson has as good a shot of anyone to maximize what Williams can become. But, as we agree, nothing will happen without a dramatic O-line overhaul!

I never said it was easy, just said it was possible. Pay up for Trey Smith, re-sign Jenkins, land Zeitler, draft a starting LT at 1.10 to move Braxton Jones to a swing tackle and they go from bottom of the barrel to respectable with upside. Just involves spending money (not something the Bears tend to do) and doing enough homework to land a bookend LT at 1.10. Every draft produces a handful of quality NFL starters at tackle...the Bears will have their choice of all but maybe 2 of the eligible players.

BJ says he will reinvent the wheel in Chicago. And not just do here, what he did there. I think it is more so that Johnson trusts him, and knows what kind of player he is. Detroit would have kept him, but they couldn't pay everyone on that line. The Rams paid up, and that didnt work out well. Now they have cap issues.

Chicago Bears have agreed to trade a 4th round pick in the 2026 draft. For Chiefs 4 x All Pro Guard Joe Thuney.
The Chiefs are in a salary cap bind, and trading Thuney will free up $15.5MIL on the upcoming season. Chicago has the cap resources to extend Thuney if they choose.
Free Agency isnt even open yet. And the Bears have nearly remade their O-line with a pair of Pro Bowlers. Next stop, Drew Dalman at center. And some backfill in the draft.

Ben Johnson knows the importance of having a great o-line. This has his fingerprints. All his trick plays and motion requires line holding blocks. Getting some solid vets could very well work out great for that offense.

And of course the falcons will lose Dalman to FA.

Solid moves by the Bears...only downside is both pickups are effectively FA signings in terms of the 2025 cap, but at the expense of a pair of draft picks. Obviously they are not tied to Thuney after this year...but could they have spent the same $$$ in FA with similar players and kept their picks?

Ronnie Stanley is OK. The Ravens seem to plan on resigning him though. He is now 6 years removed from his lone All Pro season. Thuney is 6 weeks removed from his last one.
So who would be better than Thuney & Jackson? Will Fries is a FA, but a downgrade from those 2. Teven Jenkins is the next highest rated. But the Bears had him, and will most likely let him walk. He cant stay healthy. After him, its Kevin Zeitler who will be on his 6th team, and is 35 years old.
The Bears might bring in Kevin Zeitler as depth. But you cant argue the 2 trades were just as good as any free agents. Plus with free agents, they go to the highest bidder. Both of these trades have contracts that are easy enough to digest already. And a 4th and 6th are hardly high grade picks.

I didn't see that Trey Smith got tagged...so the pick losses make a bit more sense. Now I think the question is - do the Bears REALLY open the coffers and remain super active in the FA market?

Keep trading for offensive lineman vets, it's not going to help.

After paying out for these 2, the Bears "only" have almost $50MIL left in cap space. And I am thinking they will chop up some of the 2025 money for Thuney on an extension.
They are spenders right now, with Caleb on his rookie deal. I think they still open the purse for Drew Dalman at center. And Id like to see them bring back Khalil Mack on a 2 year deal. Just to tutor some of the younger guys on the line, like Austin Booker.
Mack is best used as an edge specialist at his age. Not every down. Like how the Pack used Peppers at his end.
I am thinking 2 more bigger adds like that are yet to come.

Knowing Bears fans like I do. They would trip over themselves to buy this while not understanding it's an insult. Several would even wear it around their necks at games. Which is accurate, but still, wouldn't be understood.
For a team that is so "irrelevant". Some of you are pretty damn obsessed with the Bears and their fans.
Did Mike Ditka spit in your face once? Did Walter Payton tease you in high school?

...Did Mike Ditka spit in your face once? Did Walter Payton tease you in high school? ... Good old bears fans... bringing up players who were done playing before most of them were even hitting puberty. ;)
We get it: Chicago was good back 100 years ago when they were playing the Canton Bulldogs and the Chicago Cardinals. We get it. :)
Back to 2025, they've finished last place 3 years running... no playoff wins in way over a decade.

So talk what does MN do if Darnold goes to Seattle and how maybe Rodgers goes there. That would be a fun mess to watch as I think McCarthy is not happy about having to be #2 again and if Rodgers would struggle and get benched well then you have Rodgers being not happy he's benched and you know his attitude would be like.

I think it will probably be Rodgers or Daniel Jones to start the year. If either struggle then by week 6-8 JJ is in the game. Jones would probably head to the bench and Rodgers would most likely leave the team overall like Mariota did a few years back.

McCarthy is healthy by all accounts (his own, coaches, team).
They will bring in a budget vet QB and/or draft pick or two.
I would suspect Daniel Jones, Brissett, Zappe, Wentz... maybe Mac Jones at the very most via FA.
If the Vikings did sign Cousins, ARodg, Russ, Carr?, re-sign Darnold, etc to a big money deal, then yeah... huge red flag for JJ McCarthy's health/knee.
But that simply won't be the case. It's a non-issue; he's ahead of schedule based on all available info.

You don't trade up in first round to sit a QB. Many reasons... money, planning, confidence, other factors.
The rare rare rare exceptions would be where you do have a high quality starter above them (JLove, etc).
Sure, they'd intended JJ sit and learn 2024, take some first team reps in practices, and come in for some mop-up duty (like NE had intended for Maye).
It didn't work out that way for Minn - just like it did not for NE and Maye. Pats were so bad Maye had to go in, and JJ had to have the two knee surgeries.
Regardless, they both know the playobooks now. They're both starters in 2025 - barring another serious health/knee setback for McCarthy in camp or preseason.

Minnesota is getting back its back: Aaron Jones is re-signing with the Vikings on a two-year, $20 million deal that includes $13 million guaranteed, per sources. The deal was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus.

Vikings are stupid to pay a 30yo RB who will be RBBC that kind of top 5-10 RB money. What a dumb move.
I suppose it is a thin year for FA runners, but the draft is heavy on them. Very questionable move. Ugh.

You just proved my point! If no one cares about the Bears or their fans. Since the Bears haven't been good in "100 years". Then why so many obsessive posts, just like yours, to throw shade at the team or their fans?
Seems like a lot of people care...

Because the fans are annoying. Every year you claim SUPER BOWL and every year you finish poorly. My gripe is more with the fans than with the team. And again, being born and raised in Chicago, I feel I am justified in this as I have to deal with you people day in and day out. It's exhausting. I'm obsessed with hating the fans, who are obsessed with being completely out of touch with reality when it comes to this team.
Talk to a fan of the Browns. They'll tell you their team is garbage, but they support them because it's their team. That's a solid fan. A fan who can admit the reality of their team, but still support them. Not claim every single year this is their year, regardless to how bad it looks. It's the ignorance and lack of understanding that makes people obsess with Bears fans. I don't think people really care about the team. Considering ownership hasn't in 40 years.

Mack re-signs with Chargers.
I thought I stumbled in to the AFC West thread somehow.
In "related" NFC North news. The Seahawks have traded Geno Smith to the Raiders...
I would like to thank the Vikings for dumping Kirk Cousins on the Falcons. That bloated salary kept them from resigning center Drew Dalman.
The Chicago Bears and Dalman have agreed to a three-year, $42 million deal that includes $28 million guaranteed. Completing the Bears O-Line remake, 5 minutes in to free agency.

Instant stability for Caleb. I'm predicting big seasons for Caleb, Swift, Moore, and Odunze. NFC North shaping up to be a dogfight. Minnesota looks like the seller dweller if JJ starts at QB.

Love the moves Da Bears are making. The Dalman deal seems reasonable, too. He's probably the 3rd or 4th best C in the league.
I guess we're looking to draft DL in the 1st round.

This is a good add for the Lions. I like him, and Im not sure why he never catches on anywhere.
2 years 49ers. 2 years Seattle. 2 years Jets
Bears signing Colts DE Dayo Odeyingbo & Falcons DT Grady Jarrett, both to 3 year deals.
I think we are out of money now. New Dline and new Oline. Looks like the new HC/OC Johnson and DC Allen got what they needed for their new systems.
